Short history; 400 miles, built by Dvorack, 30 over, ten over, light weight rods and pistons, 1/16" rings; had to remove 36 grams from crank to balance. Eddy hi dual, eddy 750, MSD.

At first, no noise, then picked up lifter tic(hyd, cam-not much duration over stock; 9.5 adv comp. Cam supposed to have fast ramps and more lift) Don't know actual- ever tried to get Dan to tell his secrets? ha.

Pulled covers, alum roller rockers, could slide several sideways at closed. So tightened the loose 1/4 turn, no noise. Then the right bank started 2 days later.
Could only find front ex loose, tightened 1/4 turn, tic gone. We are not trying to fine tune yet, know .040 preload deal.

But now, cold knock there. Deep knock, not main sound, not rod, not that slight piston slap.. but it goes away when warm??? New one on us. Back track here; Could here rockers tick with stes scope in headers before, none now. Not the alt, wp, ps.

Lost, a deep knock goes away? Not in my experience. Can a lazy lifter cause this, without the normal ticking? ( we have no clue what valve train is in it, either.

Anyone had this?

I have solid roller on a hydro roller cam and have some lifter chatter more prevalent on the passenger side we have adjusted them twice already and either need to tighten them up more or back them off. I lean towards tighten due to the fact I had virtually no chatter when we were too tight and holding the valves open. I am going to change my collector gaskets this weekend just to eliminate that as a noise contributor.

my valve train on top was put together very carefully and we even used the right spacers between the rockers to make sure the slop was very limited. Overall it has been a pain adjusting the lifters and trying to get them just right, not sure with solid rollers I will ever get it quiet but would rather hear the turbo muffs than industrial sewing machine lol just have to keep trying. I also had a mysterious knock from deep inside think it was a connecting rod thumping the valley pan, after a couple hundred miles seems to have gone away almost.

if the noise goes away when then engine is warmed up it could be piston slap. what pistons were put in it? anything with a straight pin will make noise and i believe hypereutectics may be the noisest.

Oil Choice ???

Hey , I had a similar problem, The lifters were the culprits. What are you running for engine oil? I was advised to go with Synthetic Amsoil 20-50 or Synthetic Royal Purple 20-50. Both with Zinc. Made all the difference in the world. Hope this helps
