As a business owner operating a machine and engine shop, I don't even offer "fit to budget" parts. The reason is, it gives people the chance to set themselves up for failure. This will, no doubt, be a problem for me that is totally avoidable.
I just got in a set of Isky EZ roll lifters for a Hemi project. Sure, they cost $1000 more than the Chinese bargain lifters, BUT, both myself, the customer AND Isky all get real good nights sleep.
These bargain parts offer people who's horsepower ambitions far exceed their budget to set themselves up for heartache and financial loss. Doing it twice always costs more than doing it right once.
In my shop, we are almost "import free" on parts. We only use an occasional crank or rods on a low HP build. In time, that will no longer be an option though.
Sorry to hear of your recent loss, and the problems with your engine. It's tough to see things like this happen to people that have good intentions. I hate to think of people getting "soured" from the car hobby by bad luck with sub-standard parts. We all lose.
