440 source parts.. BEWARE

I'm going to say this and the mods can lock it afterwards, I don't care!! What's said is said, enough on this and that's that!!! The fact that this thread is pushin 4+ if not 5 yrs. old is enough. They probably don't even have this headache car/motor anymore, PERIOD! I don't even think with the time frame that's passed since they visited or post that I even offended them. If so, I'm sure they would have replied by now if they followed this board! If I P.O.ed some people here, so be it! What's done is done, PERIOD! If they are offended, sorry! But to the original poster, they haven't been here in over 4+1/2 yrs. I don't think I've offended anybody, but those they post a topic with the language and typing skills of a monkey on a keyboard with no common sense of the English language, they pawn them self's of as a ignoramus, with the common sense that God gave a Grapefruit! The English language has been bastard enough with e-bonix [or however it's spelled]? Spell check won't let me spell it right! Does nothing but show shows me a lack of intelligent's on poster's part! For the hill-jacks that think otherwise, go back to school and learn some proper English! It's what this country needs!

Let me reply to this in your own words: "Sorry your having problems. Did you (write) this yourself? If you (write) like your typing and grammar skills, I can see why you have problems! Please learn some punctuation, spelling and the use of the shift key. I have a hard time reading that!"

Just kidding... don't wanna "pawn my self's of as an ignoramus"!

I'm hoping that their parts are better than when they first came out.
I put together a 500 ci stroker and it let loose on the dyno.
Since then there is nothing NON USA made in any of my motor now.

Man, a good portion of this thread reminds me of one of the reasons why I left Moparts so many years ago lol

Yep that's what I was referring to, I don't remember when they sold exactly, but the new management & ownership have been pretty good... Expanded their line of parts & "100% USA made" line of stuff...
Are you saying 4 source is not buying China made crap anymore or they now have a line of USA made stuff?

I don't know how much Chinese crap they buy or sell, but I do know they offer 100% Made in USA products & have for quite a few years now too... There are parts they have that are made here, that aren't listed as made here too... Like any automotive retailer, I'm sure there are still many Chinese/Foreign made cheap parts sold, to be able to compete in the market.. But unfortunately it's a big part of the automotive landscape today, I just don't try to buy any of them... But yes they have a whole section devoted to ONLY 100% Made In The USA & some In House made from 100% USA products too, their Platinum series are all 100% Made in the USA IIRC... I haven't bought from them in a while now thou, I see they still offer the products thou... www.440source.com got to the web store look on the left column down almost at the bottom Made In USA, it should be at the top if it was my company or http://store.440source.com/MADE-IN-USA/products/121/ or stroker kits www.440source.com/strokerkits.htm

When I find a company that treats me well & sells a good/decent product for a reasonable price, good customer service, stand by their products, I'm loyal as an old dog... I buy mostly from Mancini Racing, Summit Racing {free shipping & best prices for quality parts} or Jegs & try to by USA or at-least North American made products, when ever possible, I wish more would actually try also, it helps the local guy & the USA workers... But unfortunately you really have to try, it's not usually clear whether parts are Made in The USA or not, some old stand by American brands are made overseas now too... You have to Google Search them &/or do your due diligence, if you want USA Made "exclusively" products... I venture to say many won't actually spend the extra time to do it thou... IMHFO Cheapest Price shoppers, not price for value shoppers for the most part, or they just don't know where the product is made or maybe even don't really care, as long as they get the best price.... my $0.02 cents, so many people seem to have an agenda when it come to 440 source... Anyway they are located in Carson City Nevada Now...

Good to know that they at least offer USA made parts now. I know when I was building my motor I made a call to them about there Stealth heads regarding where they were made, let's just say they weren't exactly eager to answer. Sorry, no Chinese crap on my American Muscle car especially the motor. As long as they're parts are Chinese I'll never buy them it's just that simple. Did I spell everything correctly? :pottytrain2:

I've been buying odds and ends from 440Source almost from day one and they've always sold a mixture of Chinese and USA made stuff. It's just that I think they are marketing the fact that they sell USA stuff more these days after taking so many beatings online over the years about selling Chinese stuff. They used to carry even more of a variety of USA and Chinese in the past. They don't have nearly as many choices for timing chain sets as they used to for example.

But I've always like them for the idea of being one stop shopping for everything big block Mopar. Remember what a pain it used to be to scrounge up little stuff like single groove pulleys for a big block Mopar? Now you can get a set along with brackets and in other little part you want - all a click away. So I commend them for that.

The Stealths heads I see as good and bad. Great that they gave people an alternative to having to either pour a bunch of money into iron heads or spend big dollars on aftermarket heads. But I wish they would have taken things just a couple steps further with them like make them so they come with good enough springs, locks, and retainers to use with cams over .510 lift and make them so they would work with 3/8" pushrods with no grinding for clearance. In other words, make them more ready to go for the average hot rodder and street/strip guy.

You know what I really miss? The old-fashioned speed shop with someone working behind the counter who was a racer and/or engine builder who could give you sound advice about what you were trying to accomplish.

I hear ya! You're talking about the ones with bikini car calendars on the wall, next to the neon clock and few stools at the counter. The air was filled with that great smell of oil, solvent and metal....Basically "car smell". Yup, miss'em. There's one about 45 minutes from here. I'll make a trip of going out there, spend some time just to chat and hang out a bit. Usually buy something, just to throw a bit of money in their hat.

Yeah they're a dieing breed today, I remember them places well, Will, we had quite a few in Concord, Walnut Creek, Pleasant Hill, Pacheco, Martinez, Antioch, Brentwood Calif. {even Vallejo, Sonoma, Oakland & S.F. even San Jose} mostly east bay areas for me growing up, with some grizzled ol'racer guy, like a Service Center, who was the man back in his day, that would still race some, tell you what to do or not to do something, guide you along... I had some great mentors & neighbors that helped me... I wish I could open up a old style Speed Shop, hands on type place, but with todays internet click & buy/price shoppers, the margins would be so damn tight, I doubt unless the building was owned outright & you manned it with old racing buddies as partners, had/owned allot of machinery already, that you'all didn't need too much income, just a place to pass it forward, bench race etc. & make a few bucks too boot, I highly doubt it would survive very long today...

Yea I certainly do... Good old Vic Hubbard's in Hayward too... Morgan Speed & Marine in Walnut Creek... Service Center in Concord... Tri-Valley Machine in Pacheco... Bob Monroe's in W.C. & Don Tourte's Pacheco racecar fab shops, also Arlen Ness & Jim Davis, Pete & Marlene Kaiser fab {my next door neighbors, in Pleasant Hill}... Monument Auto in Concord & Antioch, {I worked there as a teenager}... then Bailey Brothers {known mostly for wicked Sprint Car stuff, but did others} & Super Shops in Napa/Sonoma area were all pretty good too... allot of great places back when... More from my past, like Bill Stammerjohn {Mopar Engines, Heads, Race/Fab shop} Sac. area... also Gerolamy Machine/Cylinder head porting {Rancho Cordova, RIP Mark Lowe, he was a great head porter} & Tognotti's was huge in Sacramento area... Rex Hutchison's was a great full service place Sac. area too... Chris {Chassisworks}& Tom Alston's {Alston Engineering} shops are now separate have been for 30+ years now, racecar chassis component & race fab businesses Sac./Rancho Cordova area... South L.A./"The Long Beach Gang" was really full of them, I could go on & on...

sure do remember super shops, used to work there here in vegas 20+ years ago.was a fun place to work, except for the corporate side.i guess thats why the owner ebezeled the company broke.

I have never bought anything from 440 Source, I can not speak to the quality. The one thing is for sure lower priced goods will have more issues no matter who you buy them from. isn't that a risk you take when buying bargin priced products. I bought roller lifters for 600.00 and I would tolerate zero issues. I have 3 American made Kellogg Cranks and paid dearly to find them for the quality. When parts so so cheap from Chinese made blanks this is what your going to expect. The fact that 440 source was willing to split some of the cost is rare.

Super Shops was the place I bought parts for my first engine build. I had $$$ burning a hole in my pocket for all kinds of stuff, but my one item I had to have was the Pete Jackson's gear drive. lol that stuff was the one thing a small block furd needed to fake a blower sound. lol I loved that in the 80's

I was turned off from buying anything from 440 source when I stumbled across a forum where some guys found their aluminum BB water pump housing had a too small hole and was causing overheating. The genuine Mopar Performance item works properly.

If they can't get an external engine part right, like make a coolant hole the same size as a factory item, how good are the internals???
