440 source parts.. BEWARE

I have bought more reliable modern day parts from over seas that modern day "Merica" parts that are garbage and over priced.

When Freemont/Baylands was still open, I would get Torco Racing oil, alcohol/methanol, Champion plugs sponsored by Vic Hubbard's for like 10 years, I had an office on Main St. in Hayward, worked in the area allot... I stopped in VH many times during the day, just to pick up parts or just browse & BS with some of the guys, haven't been there now in probably 15 years...

Switched from some old iron heads and put the stealths on right out of the box and it took .5 second off my 1/4 mile. But the iron heads were oil sucking pos'. I'm building a stroker motor and every shop I talked to instantly cringed at the word "440source stroker kit". And had horror stories, but then you hear about guys that have ran the kits for years with no problems......

I had the same problem with pro comp on roller rockers for a ford, 14 out of 16 cracked in 3 weeks, 440 source and procomp peddle the same chinese fecal waste, pro comp is so bad thy had to change there name to speedmaster

Never had a problem with 440 Source parts - hope I never do. If I do the first thing I'd do is contact them to try and work something out. Sounds like you're doing that. Give them a chance to make good.

I'll bet their English skills are better than some people I have read from recently.

I'm always amazed. People no longer have the basic skills to post or write anything intelligible. I'm embarrassed for some of the posts on the internet, although the posters probably aren't. Some people, love to wave their stupid flags with pride.

Agreed.

I buy domestic whenever I can. Firearms and sportbikes are the only real exceptions.

Regardless of whether you are correct, the fact that they were recommended by a TV show holds no points for me, LMAO

I wanted to make it clear, I am not promoting a TV show, I thought it was interesting how they used the kit that 440 source had supplied. I have been a Max Wedge person for years and when I saw the article on the show it lead me back to my machinist to talk about the accuracy of the segment which he proved to be quit accurate. I thought it was great that a company like 440 Source had taken all the guess work out of building a reliable street kit for the 400. As far as the other gentleman having issues with the parts from 440 Source I have had none. If you build a motor and say for instance you are using J&E pistons, Scat rods and crank, why would you go to a lesser product on the top end, I have been using Crowers Billet Roller Rockers for quite awhile now and they have never failed me. Anyway roll on Mopar people and save as many as you can. DT

Most of the over seas parts that have failed people ....failed due to wrong app, use beyond recommended part life span or plain old poor installation.

Things like wrong length push rods, too much or little spring pressure, bad geometry, and last but not least and always one of edelbrocks probems....not checking the overall correctness of parts finish machining and tolerances.
I've ran the needle bearing rockers, the bushed rockers, the chinese h beams and cranks.....
The no.1 problem is setup followed by life span and not checking things out routinely like a race car....because these aftermarket parts ARE just that...race parts meant for a few races at 8k rpm...equating to a bit longer in your weekend warrior hotrod.

Thats how i look at things.

Speedmaster hei distributor

Back in August I bought a hei dist. for my crossram 440, I was tinkering around mocking up the engine and went to install the dist. no way would it clear a stock valve cover, so I pulled off the cover and it wouldn't clear the rocker arm or the head, all stock parts no aftermkt stuff except the speedmaster hei unit, now if it had an electrical problem it could be repaired, but what now! Any way I fired off an email to these folks, they already have a real bad track record, but I will keep you up to date on the latest and greatest parts from the orient. will the owners back there product or will they say im sorry you feel that way.

You got me scratching my head on this one. You buy an HEI distributor an aftermarket one and then find out its doesn't fit and its 440sources probelm how?

All I can tellyou is I use their 4.15 stroker kit for a 440 block and its been in my car since 2011 running 10's with no problems at all. I checked the parts myself and built the eng myself and the only real issue I had was the wrist pins were a tad tight which I fixed with no problem. My brother has used 3 of their stroker kits also with all still running strong. Ron

maybe this is my fault. but I did not purchase anything from 440 source. I purchased an hei distributor from speed master, that is supposed to fit a 440. it didn't even come close. with the cylinder heads off the block, it fit fine. correct depth in the oil pump gear. no problems. until you put the heads on and the rocker covers. will not fit, no matter what! I tried to contact them by email. no response. 3 days everyday nada. so I called them they told me they hundreds of these. I said you may but they don't fit a stock 440. the gentleman informed me that I can send it back at my expense. I said show me a picture of one on a stock 440 and I will keep it. been mighty quiet for days. anybody you know running one of these? if so show me a photo!

Here is a pic of my distributor with stealth heads, the distributor is the firecore from Mancini and the fit is just fine. Do you have any pictures of your set up? I did have a pro comp billet mech distributor before and the fit was not that great, lower I think it was maybe the same.

Yep found it,

Nice looking engine, you don't understand. I have stock 440 heads they are late model from a butt hutt. I purchased a hei cap distributor. Coil in the cap, this thing is pretty tall. but no way will it clear stock heads. I don't have after mkt cyl heads. you would need to remove a rocker arm for this to work. this is not sum cosmetic problem! this is a serious case of does not fit. there are units out there at over 400 bucks a pop, hey they fit! this cost 60 bucks its supposed to fit, but sadly it doesn't, nor will the other 300 he has in his wherehouse fit the engine that it was supposed to fit. This engine is totally stock on the exterior, it does have long cross rams, but they don't come near the ignition.
thanks for your response.

some of us are going to get those 300 units that don't fit.

if you buy from amazon, they have to take them back, if you didn't, its buyer beware. these guys used to be pro comp electronics, things got bad peddlin bum parts they changed there name to speedmaster, don't buy there rocker arms either 14 out of 16 cracked 1 snapped off completely. this was on a 5 liter ford. bad mouthin somebody doesn't help me, but it will install caution in future buyers of inferior goods, and forewarned is forearmed. never get mad, just hurtum where it hurts.

Ok, so what does the HEI distributor that you bought from Speedmaster have to do with 440Source and their products or customer service? Typically, well-crafted, precisely worded, punctuated and capitalized posts are easier to understand and hold more weight.

Lollllllllll Let's revive this post. We bought a 500 c.i. for a 400 block from 440Source , It was the full balanced kit. I sent it to the shop I used to work at 11-12 years ago for block machining and assembly. They also checked if it was well balanced and yes it was. We put it in a Valiant for a year or so then swap it into a Daytona full tube chassis and it has been running flawless for last 5 years.
At that shop , we were building lots of high performance engines, for field irrigation, hot rods to drag race car. Many times expensive brand heads or edelbrock (which can be seen as budget heads) Had valve guides well too tight , one set of "direct bolt on" heads had filings left in one or two ports. Just to say all have to be well inspected when buying any parts. Those nice H-Beam rods are often machined to the large side of the spec, so you don't get to have a good bearing crush when assembling . Now try to sell extra work on the brand new parts a guy has bought ...

If the OP builds engines as well as he spells, I can see why he had problems.
