After Hurricane Katrina, we got a pretty large influx of Nawlins 'refugees' and with all the illegals coming to Houston looking for a new life, the legal citizen's lives have forever changed. The major oil down turn hasn't helped either I'm sure. I live in a suburb of Houston where you hardly ever heard of home invasions many years ago but now, we're hearing more and more and not so much through the main stream new media. If you do hear something through the main stream news it's because someone was murdered. Several years ago a new road was plowed right through the middle of our neighborhood and 8 houses were hit during the construction of that bastard. And every so often someone knocks on the door looking for some address that doesn't exist out here. Told one guy there was no such address but when he left, he went a couple of houses down and knocked on a neighbor's door. That's when I called the police and he was promptly arrested. We have a decent police response out here but we still have several break ins a year and this neighborhood isn't that big. The city's population is 34000 and the unemployment rate is less than 4% (that stat is nearly a year old....I'm sure it's higher now) and yet we still have several break ins a week. Most of them are young adults and the majority is drug related.
Anyways, always wanted a BB gun as a kid but I'm sure dad knew what I would do with it so, never had one and he was probably right in his thinking. I had shot a 22 rifle for the first time when I was 13 and my first shot was dead center. Man, this is easy......lucky shot was what that was lol. It was several years later before shooting again and that was in the military. Ended up in law enforcement in the AF and then it was several more years before buying my first weapon, a .357 and that happened because of my sister and her rocky marriage to a marine and his penchant to drink too much from time to time and waving the .357 about. Got it for 50 bucks and the ball finally got rolling with more purchases over the years. Didn't like carrying a .38 in the military too much back then but now, I feel naked when I'm not carrying.
