'69 charger r/t-se: Building my dream car

GOON STAMPED!!! "FER RACIN'"!!

Everything's lookin great brother you are making some serious progress!
GOON APPROVED! Might need to have some "fer racin" stickers made up now lol thanks man I'm hauling as much @ss as possible haha

No problem. If you think you need it, I can cut it in 1/2 and send it out to you.
You can test it out, we could throw a little paint on it, and maybe get a patent on this new fangled specialty deluxe tool. On the package we could state that straight fins make your car go faster - fer racin of course. Just think, we could quit our day jobs and just play with old Mopars with all the money we would have rolling in.
Man, if you could that'd be awesome! Do you have any pics of it in action and how exactly you used it? Haha
Oh yeah now we're talking! They'll be lining up cash-in-hand to get that extra 15 straightened fin horsepower *(actual results may vary)

Good to see you being able to spend some time working on your car there Speedy . . . lots of progress going on too ! !

Fer Racin' . .. . LMAO ! ! !
Thanks Kahn! Feels good to be making progress but I feel the heat on how close this car show is, not too many shopping days left til christmas!

Just make sure you mount them facing back if they're "fer racing" (propulsion) haha. Still kicking around what I'm going to do, I know I want a digital media player since all my music is on an I pod now and I'm thinking about putting some tweets in my console, 6X9s in the package tray (pods behind to tall seat backs) and maybe a couple 10s in the trunk? Then again the factory system in out Aspen is really nice and I'm sure I'd be fine with it so we'll see. I'm shooting for our local car show as well (I've got plenty of time) but I was driving mine in the same condition you described, car guys understand "you just can't wait on little things like windows haha". Enjoy

Man O' Man......."Back in Black" banging on the radio, hands griped tight on the wheel, foot just waiting to furiously mash the pedal to the board, and the thumpity thump of a big block rocking the antenna back and forth like an earthquake. Just think what you got to look forward to. It's gonna be Epic.

Well guys it was a pretty victorious weekend! Here's an update on the past few days

I got my jobs done early at work on Friday, so me and my dad did this fun little side project machining a spacer for the crank pulley on Mike's Hemi. He said he used a 440 style dampener because the cost is so much less compared to the hemi counterpart with the same performance, so he needed a spacer for the factory hemi pulley to line up correctly.
So we started on the mill with flycutting the material flat and drilling the bolt circle. Took a bit of trig to find the position for the one offset hole but we got it haha

20140530_104815.jpg

20140530_104736.jpg

Then we milled it to thickness, leaving the front register that the pulley locates to.
20140530_134848.jpg

Then the outer diameter and over to the lathe to face the backside and ID turn the inner register that locates to the dampener.
20140530_141604.jpg

20140530_143328.jpg

And the finished product!
20140530_150030.jpg

20140530_150150.jpg

Then off to Mike's after work for delivery, fits like a glove! :icon_thumleft: So if there's much of a demand for these I may start making them in production, that way anyone can save some money running a 440 dampener and still retain all the factory hemi pulleys.

20140530_180845.jpg

Can't forget the 540 cubes of engine **** haha

Now back to the regularly scheduled Charger programming lol. After some colorful language and a good chunk of time I got the cowl fins all leveled off and straightened. Opted for the paintstick/ hook tool combo and a buddy of mine was over hanging out at the shop and helped eyeball how close everything looked. Just a note to anyone doing this for the first time like me, it doesn't take much force to pull these things so don't over-do it. I'm assuming if you pull too far and stretch the metal you'll pretty much be stuck with some wobbly looking fins. (Still say you should put your tool into production elk lol!)

20140602_010321.jpg

20140602_010512.jpg

And finally got the cowl to A-pillar seams done, and the rest of the bodywork on the cowl in check :icon_pray:

So at this point I'm finally all systems go for primer, gonna get everything all cleaned out and masked off today. Feel like I'm making some real progress now
:eek:ccasion14:

That'd be a pretty cool setup! Most of my music is here on my phone nowadays so I'm just running a nice Pioneer deck with an auxillary input, and my car was factory 3 speaker so that made the decision easy on where to put the 3.5's haha. Well good luck to both of us! Lol at least your car is already looking gorgeous and tearing up the roads! :icon_thumleft:

Man O' Man......."Back in Black" banging on the radio, hands griped tight on the wheel, foot just waiting to furiously mash the pedal to the board, and the thumpity thump of a big block rocking the antenna back and forth like an earthquake. Man... it sounds so beautiful haha I think the "mission" I was on has turned into an all out assault, so hopefully those days aren't too far off!

Glad to see you back at it havent been on much n that machine work is great im sure if you put your mind to it you could accomplish anything. You mite be on to something

Sure is nice having a machine shop at your disposal, the body work is looking really nice Speedy.:headbang:

Thanks guys! It definitely comes in handy haha and it'd be cool to make a little money selling them on the side if there's any demand for them :shruggy:

Well I had a busy night taking the little lady out to dinner but I did get some time to roll frankenstein outside for a massive cleaning (which meant the shop got one too haha). Just gotta do some last minute re-scuffing and masking tomorrow and we'll be good to go. Just thought I'd share some more pics in the meantime

Sorry Daytona, no primer yet but tonight should be the night. As always I underestimated how long the masking party was going to take but I burned some midnight oil and knocked it out.

All edges are masked so now I just have a couple more sheets of plastic to hang, break out the tac cloth and lay some primer!

Nice progress Speedy. Wont be long now and there will be another black beast gracing these pages :headbang:.
Thanks Elk! Slowly but surely, I'll probably be blocking til Christmas lol

That's for sure! Hopefully the 'freak ends up half as nice as Elk, 747 and Prop's jalopies, it's awesome inspiration seeing all these gorgeous rides hitting the road!

Thanks Steven! Glad to hear you're making progress, those window corners are always fun or in Frankentstein's case the entire rear window shelf lol keep at it! :icon_thumleft:

Thanks USA! Man I'm hoping I have the money for the added pedal this winter, a Viper 6 speed would sure do the trick :icon_thumleft:

Priming?, I thought it would be painted by now. I got a feeling Seedy is either partying or getting to much ***, or both.
LOL is there really such thing as too much? :beavisnbutthead:

Well fellas the deed is done!

The learning curve kinda kicked my @ss though haha. Had some pretty bad runs in the doorjambs and rockers, but nothing some sandpaper can't fix and like my buddy Al always said-

albert-einstein.jpg

Basically my advice with All-U-Need is to let your first coat remain semi transparent. Charlie and the paint guy both warned me it would look like that and still be building, but I was in a hurry and thought I'd try to get it a little darker on the first coat which caused the runs. But oh well, lesson learned and at least the cowl and A-pillars seem to have come out ok

Hey thanks Ron! And yep I just told myself mistakes are all just part of learning and jumped right back in, the sandpaper's working great lol

20140607_180320.jpg

Carefully sanded the runs and sags with 80 grit to level them off, then 180 to knock down the orange peel, 320 to take out the 180 scratches (where I'm at right now), and tomorrow should be some wet sanding with 400 before the jet black topcoat. Moving right along guys
