'69 charger r/t-se: Building my dream car

Well I've been talking about it in a different thread I started but I've got some pretty awesome news, those Procharger dreams I've had for Frankenstein for so long just got a lot more real yesterday.. haha
:beavisnbutthead:

$250 bought me the head unit, pulleys, mounting bracket (for chevy), procharger intercooler (6"x18"x3" core), autometer phantom af gauge, fuel pressure gauge, bov, and all the piping. The head unit shows its age with a little surface rust on the compressor but there's no shaft play or chunks taken out of any fins or anything, and all in all looks like a pretty good unit. Worst case scenario I send it in to be rebuilt, I'm still heaps of money ahead of buying a brand new one. Can't even say how excited I was to score this deal haha

Now that's more like it Speedy, glad to see Frankenstein's running again!!!! Please paint that radiator haha, I painted my core and not the tanks...................go figure they show up clear as can be and it drives me nuts seeing that shiny aluminum threw that deep grill. I can't even begin to tell you the amount of fun we've been having with our Charger (1,000+ miles already) so keep after it because these things ride like a dream and turn heads wherever they go.
That's funny I was just thinking that again when I took that video haha did you use that special eastwood radiator paint? Wow 1k already?! Glad to hear you're having fun turning that odometer over man, after putting up with the Charger curse for so long you've earned it haha

The Charger is anxious or the guy building her, now be careful! A lot of us has been in your shoes at this point and remembers the thunder, the smell, the brain tingling belly turning excitement it brings!!! :)
I'm definitely feeling it ron! Haha, feels great to be so close and look back at how far I've come even at the point I'm at now
Really looking good dude! I'm very jealous, and inspired.:hello2:
Hey thanks Daytona, with all the bad@ss Chargers coming together on here just think how cool it'll be when all of our cars are done! Meet all you guys in margaritaville, last one there gets the tab lol

Thanks guys! I'm still shocked I got that kind of deal haha but the boost will definitely be fun
:3gears:

I started getting to the bottom of exactly what I had with a call to Procharger, and I gotta say their customer service is awesome. Got straight through to a tech, and with the serial number they were able to tell me exactly what model I had and a full service history for my unit, and it looks like it will work perfect for the 440 :icon_biggrin:
Procharger P1SC: inducer diameter 3.37", 6.26" exducer, good for up to 825 horsepower

Then I gave the Supercharger Store a call and got some info and ballpark prices on the 440 mounting kit. Guess my oil drive housing needs to be reclocked to fit the brackets correctly, but they had it on record as a $160 job from Procharger so not too big of a deal.

So right now the plan is to get my Chevelle back up and running on daily driver duty through winter while I finish the Charger, and save up money for Edelbrock aluminum heads, a regulated higher pressure/flow fuel system, and a more boost-friendly cam for supercharging. The Chevelle twin turbo project will be put on hold just for the sake of putting this procharger to use as soon as possible, but even naturally aspirated it'll still have the twin turbo capable fuel system for when the time comes.

Also some more good news, finally sold my old ex-lowrider Chebbie stepside yesterday and got the rest of the funds I need for this whole operation. About to make some massive orders on ebay and summit, looks like christmas is coming early this year lol

Kicked this whole party off with a half day off work today. Got the horrible toe-in on the Charger re-adjusted getting ready for the trip back to the exhaust shop, and prepped/painted the Chevelle upper and lower control arms with jet (gloss) black Chassis Saver. The last lower arm started to get some water in the line but for the most part they came out pretty good

Hopefully some quick progress and a few visits from UPS guy coming up fellas, it's full speed ahead at this point
:eek:ccasion14:

Looking good Speedy! Very jealous about the pro-charger!
For a minute I thought you were putting Chevelle A arms on your Charger.,lol

1000 mi already 747...it doesn't take long does it...I've got 800 and change on mine already and its only been a month haha.

NICE score on that supercharger...that should liven things up a touch.

Looks like full speed ahead a lot, well, compared to any work on my cars ive done and a "supercharger"? lol, I CAN dream some buddy!!!! Very cool! ;)

I'm dying to see this thing supercharged........HELLYEAH:headbang:

Awesome thread congrats Speed Freak on all the success!! I hope to build one from scratch soon as well. Look forward to the final goal!

No Way Speedy . . . just when I thought that your thread could NOT get any better you pull one out of a hat and prove me wrong . . . TOO COOL ! ! ! I am starting to think that I may need to look into these new super chargers for the Belvedere in the future ( uh, after I get my build done - that is ) . . .

As always, I will be following along with your progress . . . keep us posted ! ! Thanks !

MOTHER OF GOD...frankenstien is gonna be boosted. im in love. looks like someone will have a 200mph speedo...lmao...very nice speedy.

Man, thanks guys I guess we're all pretty excited then haha :icon_thumleft:

Sorry I haven't been on too much this past week, been keeping really busy throwing the Chevelle back together. Had an early Christmas when my box from Summit showed up lol

20140926_204718.jpg

Staying with my ratty oldschool nascar/ mad max theme for the chebbie, also ordered a set of Cragar D-windows. Got the tires mounted and test fit the rears, should be pretty mean once it's back on the ground tucking a little tire.

I did take a little step towards the modern/pro-touring side though and bought some headlights I normally really dislike on most cars, halo's lol. But before you laugh me out of the room, these are supposed to be pure white halogens (no crappy autozone "HID" blue or other dorky ricer colors) and I won't be driving around with just the halo's on like the usual parking lot warrior. Basically just a nice bright, white headlight with a brighter outer ring, think they should look pretty cool :shruggy:

Finally got another ball rolling that I've been waiting on selling the truck for, and took my 700r4 up to my transmission builder friend to have the guts frankenstein'd into a new case. The crash must have buckled the engine and trans, and grenaded the upper bellhousing holes. Luckily the converter looks like it escaped ok (trans was still bolted to engine after the crash by the lower bolts). Gonna be good to have that back and get the whole drivetrain back on the rolling chassis

20140926_155855.jpg

Spent a lot of time last weekend shooting a bunch of front end parts with that jet black chassis saver, steering box, motor mount pads, spindles, etc, and started bolting everything back up. Hit a roadblock with some screwed up balljoint stud threads, must have tagged them with the hammer when I was separating the spindle. Hopefully have that taken care of and all buttoned up tonight.

20140929_021519.jpg

Also decided on kindof an oldschool (I think?) color scheme with my calipers (4 wheel disk): gold metallic (VHT high temp engine metallic) behind those black cragars/ flat black body. Think it'll be a little unique and a cool subtle highlight against all the black.

20140928_180257.jpg

And speaking of brakes, I hit another roadblock on the Charger when my front hose fittings weren't even close to fitting the calipers. Did a little research and it turns out the calipers' application is listed as early 70's A-body, Imperial, and '74 only Charger, so they're supposed to be a banjo-type fitting. Luckily Inline Tube sells a stainless braid version of them so I'm about to get em ordered and give the Charger some stopping power. The paint came out pretty awesome on those calipers too though haha

More progress to come, can't wait to get my cars on the road!

Ooh it's gonna be fun fellas haha I'm hoping to start collecting all the parts I need sometime around christmas and be boosted in time for summer but we'll see, at least the biggest most expensive piece of the puzzle is now on the shelf :icon_pray:

Hey thanks TX, welcome aboard and good luck with the hunt! Looking forward to seeing what ya pick up! :icon_thumleft:

Man I'm as surprised as you are about picking that thing up haha but thanks kahn! My cart is a little ahead of the horse with all that (I'll be excited just to drive my jalopy at all) but some exciting plans to look forward to never hurt haha I think the kahnvertible is just asking for some boost to boil those huge tires you're planning on..
:eek:ccasion14:

Lol! Thanks USA!! And that's funny you mention that, it's the one part of the blower addition I forgot haha planning on swapping in a full autometer dash like is in my Chevelle, except I want more basic race-looking gauges than the phantom II's. Right now I'm thinking these Z-series, with the colored lense removed so at night they'd just be standard side-lit

2688_d.jpg

Also found out the same company I got my Chevelle dash from has started doing Mopar '68-'70 B body panels! I love the kit I have so I think I'll give em another shot with the Charger when the time comes

http://www.classicdash.com/shopping/1968-70-Mopar-B-Body-Black-Dash-Panel.html

Got to say Speedy, that Chevelle looks sweet!

Hey thanks Ron! It's no mopar but I'd like to think it might end up (almost) as cool as one lol :icon_thumleft:

(Don't worry Devin, more Charger progress coming soon! Haha)

Boosted...That's freaking awesome! Excuse my french, but after that mod....Frankenstein will put your nuts in the back seat! Onward with the Monster Mash.

Black coat chevy is looking sharp! All these black wicked rides, you're gonna definitely need to start sporting a black leather trench and a decent set of shades.....start calling folks Daddy-O....maybe get a "**** happens" sticker.

Punched through that little roadblock and had some more victory yesterday, the interceptor's front end is finally back together haha. I had to undo, adjust, and re-tighten the spring compressors more times than I care to count (damn chebbies and their coilsprings), but feels pretty good to have one more mile marker in the rear-view

Now I just have the gravy stuff left, bolting up shocks, steering, and the monster 1 1/4" swaybar. Had to laugh at the nice billet sleeves on my chinesium tie rods though haha

Hahaha! With ol' blackie I was thinking something more along the lines of a one-armed leather jacket and a leg brace, might still need the "**** happens" sticker though lol

V8_interceptor.jpg

Man I might need a carseat back there for the boys the way USA is talking with the 200 mph speedo, you guys are a bad influence lol. But between the built bottom end I already have, plus some new aluminum up top and the hairdryer, should be a decent rocknrolla!

O.K I'll admit your Chevelle is looking pretty mean in all black with the Nascar style wheels. I saw your Speedo and thought I'd mention how much I like my GPS Speedo sensor, always within 1 mph accurate and you can change gearing, tire size, etc without ever touching it. Also thought I'd mention a buddy of mine that drags blew his bellhousing apart and bought an aftermarket bellhousing that bolts onto the tranny once you cut the old away (looked pretty durable).

That's some exiting stuff you got going on over there Speedy!

Speedy your fast becoming a car restorer to be reckoned with! :) your scary good at this stuff...
