69 Coronet 440 project

I'm going to add my vote to the lime green color too. I was hoping that's what you'd choose. That or the orange.

You're really doing an incredible restore my friend. I had a brand new car to start with compared to what you're doing. You're going to be one proud papa when it's done!

Thanks GetX'd the hardest part of this whole build is not becoming overwhelmed with the work that needs to be done. Yea you have a great foundation to start with and if I was to do something like this again I'd look for something more like what you have.

I'd just stay away from Craftsmen altogether anymore. I just got a wrench set and they're freakin wrenches are Chinese chit as well, hell they don't even look like Craftsmen's anymore.

don't buy nre craftsman anymore, I pick them up at the swap meets and flea markets.

Ok it's been two days now of shear frustration. I'm holding off on the floor till I can get my compressor fixed so I switched to the quarter skin. The big stuff went off without a hitch. I decided to cut the old quarter on top of the old quarter, not on the side. I did this because the old quarters were cracked at the doors and this removed most of the crack. I cut the old quarter off using the new one as a guide and that went beautifully. My frustration is with the end that meets the tail panel. Because it's a skin, the attachment point to the tail light panel is very minimal and does not go all the way down.

I ended up making the flanges that I needed to attach to the tail light panel.

I also had to build this corner under the end cap because the skin went straight down. That was fun!!! :angryfire:

It looks horrible but for the most part it matches up with the end cap.

My new problem and the source of me wanting to beat this skin with a sledge hammer. the skin goes straight down to the center body line and the end cap has a curve to it. The skin is off by a 1/4 of an inch. It's good across the top and it's good on the bottom of the end cap but the middle sucks ***! I don't know how to fix this. anybody have any tips on what to do? I'm at a loss right now.

Some garage music to weld and grind too.

I learned something new today. You can only post one video. I'm still not sure if that's a day or I'll have to wait till someone else posts.

A glimmer of hope on the work front. My old boss wants to talk to me on Monday. Fingers crossed!

be sure and tell him you can't come back until the car is done!

Got my problem with the quarter skin figured out. It was one of those things where I knew what I had to do, I just didn't want to do it. I made some cuts in the end of the quarter so I could put a slight curve into the panel. From there I welded up the cuts and ground them flat. Iworkef and now it all fits together nicely.

And some more music to fix a quarter skin too. :headbang:

Thanks GetX'd, I show everyone this site, "because it ROCKS!!!":headbang: Being a network engineer, unless I connected the Coronet to the internet, I don't think many managers would be impressed. Ooh I could sell it as problem solving skills and dazzle them with brilliance (or baffle them with bulls**t). Either way you may be on to something. :toothy9:

Aint that the truth Roger. Thanks for the complement. I think once I get this quarter figured out and welded in place it will be time for a few cocktails. :VB toast: :icon_jook:

Thanks Devin, coming from someone who knows how to make it happen, that's a real complement. I'm finding out that crappy parts seem to be the nature of this game. I think I've been lucky so far, this is the first real fitment issue that I've had. Most of the other parts fit with a little grinding or tweaking and hopefully the quarters will be the hardest part. Once those are done it should be mostly patch work to remove small holes. At least, that's what I'm hoping for.

Mr? please, not so formal!

Yea but you have to be able to hear it in my head. Think stereotypical African American accent said sort of fast, "Missa Case". It sort of fits my preconceived notion of you, as in, I think you have a little funk or style in ya. Trust me it's a complement. :)

It' Sunday afternoon and I'm sitting here wanting to but at the same time not wanting to go out and work on the Coronet. The reason for my dilemma? It's time to weld in the quarter skin. I'm fairly confident that I have all the measurements right but this is a big outside piece of the puzzle. Up until now everything I've been doing can be hidden and nobody will ever have to see it. If I mess this piece up, I may as well call the Coronet "Scar" and condemn it to the ranks of the unworthy. Granted everything I've been doing has been, as if people will see it and I've been trying to be perfect and so far I have been, Or at least for never doing bodywork before I've think I've done fairly well. Every time I hit a milestone like this I get this gut-wrenching knot in the pit of my stomach and the little voice in the back of my head saying "don't screw it up!". Maybe I'm writing this for the people like me who don't really know that they are doing but will do it anyway. Maybe it's to let someone else know you really aren't alone. Maybe I'm writing this to put off going out to the garage, maybe, maybe, maybe. No more maybe's it's time to do this, so out the garage I go and I'll see you guys on the other side.......
