Thanks Johnny, I've wanted a six pack car from the moment I knew what one was. I figure I'll never be able to buy one so I'll build one instead. <Tim Allen Grunts>A 528ci, 6 bbl, 700hp beast!</ Tim Allen Grunts> :laughing6: :toothy12: :laughing6:

John, I do hope you manage to get it the way you want!, Should be a great project with in the build! Go for it!!! :)

Well I ended up back on the beach today. (I got my compressor fixed.)

KickPanelRight_02.jpg

I've run out of parts to weld on so I'm back to media blasting till I figure out what to do next.I got the right side kick panel blasted as well as some of the firewall and the right side a-pillar.

KickPanelRight_01.jpg

I'm glad I did this because I found more rust holes. Without a doubt I'll have to remove the cowl and make some repairs.

KickPanelRight_03.jpg

And as of right now I'm not sure how I'm going to fix the holes at the top of the kick panel

I think I'm going to have to rename this a father - daughter project. she's out there more than my boy. I went outside to do some sand blasting on the firewall and Allyson said that she would like to try it, so I cut her loose on it. Not bad for her first try. It makes a papa proud :)

Well between work, the house, school, and the kids I was finally able to finish blasting the inside of the firewall. I'm finding all sorts of weak metal after blasting so I guess it's worth doing.

This one got alot bigger

and this pinhole opened up.

this one got bigger as well. I'm afraid to see what happens after it gets blasted.

john you are looking good there, those little holes are i know you will find a way to handle them, just like you have handled everything else you have come across with your car,you have some good help there with you as well.

That one at the top of the kick panel is odd, how does that get wet and rotten? Is there a hole in the cowl? I'd be really tempted to pull the cowl anyways since it would make fixing the fresh air dam easier anyways. I had to replace mine and if it makes you feel any better it's an easy job.

Congrats on getting the daughter involved.

Thanks Johnny, I know I'll figure something out.

Congrats on getting the daughter involved.

I'm still not sure how the top of the kick panel can rust out and yes after finding that I'll be removing the cowl and having a look at what's in there. Allyson my daughter has actually been helping out a lot and is looking forward to driving the Coronet when it's done.

I'm really getting into making a complete mess of the garage and my shower everyday, but I'm loving the results on the Coronet. Lots more holes to fix but I know it's going to be right when it's finished.

This one looks like it will be fun to fix the metal behind the door support has holes it. So I'm going to have to remove the bad metal in the door support and fix the metal in the kick panel. the hole is right where it meets the rocker on the inside, so it has to be fixed from the outside.

Ahh, I've been away to long. nice to see your progress though. I'm glad to see the rig is holding up well but I hope to see it on it's four feet before too long. Bringing back some not so distant memories with the surprise rust holes. Keep plugging away, well done sir, well done.

You have been away for awhile and I'm glad to see you're still checking in. What ever happened with your hood frame you were soaking in the molasses? As for getting it back on four feet I think it will be on a rotisserie first. :) Until then it's more of this :buffer: followed by this :VB toast:

I hear ya. Got alot of sanding ahead of me also. The drinking's the easy part. Hood came out good. Got to update my thread so I don't hijack yours.

More blasting today on the door support and more rust holes found. I figure once I get done blasting this section of the kick panel I'll be able to start replacing bad metal. I want a nice clean foundation to start with, no paint no rust, then I can make repairs. the first hole to fix is going to be where the a-pillar meets the door support. From there I'll work my way down.

DoorSupport_R_05.jpg

It looks like this section of the car was a dark green at one time. I'll have to check in other spots but I wonder if the front section has been replaced in the cars history. Maybe due to a car crash or an attempt at a restoration? I'll probably never know for sure.

Back to our regularly scheduled programming. I started cutting out the bad metal in the a-pillar so I can get to the bad metal in the door support.

DoorSupport_R_07.jpg

This is probably going to be the biggest piece to replace. only because it wraps around to the side.

DoorSupport_R_08.jpg

The first part of the door support repair is done. Now I can replace the metal in the a-pillar and call that piece done. I've also welded up the pin holes I found in the support. Between the tons of homework and the cold weather the going is slow but it's getting there. :)

Man do those little patches get old after a while! Looking good as usual, keep after it.

"Put one down, tack it around, 99 more patches to put all around". Patch panels and hole filling, never does seem to end. Looks like light at the end of the tunnel, plus you have a nice Michigan winter to look forward to. Cuddling up next to the ready heater with welder in hand..... ahhh, nothing better to take away the winter blahs. Keep "plugging" away, looking good sir.
