69 Coronet 440 project

John that is a little good news, prop is a great guy and its cool to see it helps you out some! Keep on keepin on buddy!!! :)
Things will start to get smoother, hang in there, things are slowing fast hear, need stuff but the waiting game has always been part of me doing one, lol, i remember a 66 Chevelle i didn't think i would ever finish....

This place never ceases to amaze me. When I posted about my hard times it was done out of a bit of frustration that comes from not having any control over the situation that I'm in. It came to a head and that post about my situation was the result. From that, Prop is sending me a spare spot weld cutter and 747mopar and some others filled my argon tank and refilled my welding wire. They all keep telling me that it's no big deal, but to me it is a big deal. These are people who have never met me and I've never met them and all we really share is our love of our Mopars, yet they have no problems stepping up when the need arises. It's not just them, when you go through the threads here you find people who are in need and someone sends them, what they need. This place is special, and I get convinced of that more and more all the time. It's a great bunch of guys and gals with a lot of knowledge and the biggest hearts I've ever seen. I just hope I'm worthy enough to pay it back and pay it forward.

All I did was post saying "if you need anything let us know" and Mopar505 and Kahn contacted me wanting to help so I really didn't do much. It was cool to see Prop also pitched in as well with the spot weld cutter. All I ask is for you to get back to enjoying that Mopar haha. I've been on the receiving end myself with Hyrdgoon paying my Gold Membership, Kahn sending me some super sweet Hotckins hood pins, CDR, Hunt, Daytona kid, Budniks, Meep Meep and many others for offering their wisdom to help me put my car back together and running smooth so it all goes around. I just wish I could have done it more quietly.

You know, that's the great thing about this site.....yeah, the cars are cool, but there's a lot of folks around here that are even cooler.

John, your cutter and bit's are on their way. You should see them any day, if you haven't already. BTW.......Your official last name is "Bigblock61" now, LOL. You omitted it from your PM with your address.

I don't know how much of a gift I would consider spot weld cutters are.....considering the punishment that comes with using them hehehehe. Either way, Happy Drilling!

BTW........Use some penetrating oil, tap oil or even a drop or two of regular engine oil when using the cutters. That, or the lube Blair makes. Your bits will cut better and last much longer.

Sorry to put you on the spot Devin but like you said, you've been on the receiving end as well and that's my point. It's not just you, prop, khan or hunt. People here give, more than any other site I've been on, and most of the time it's just "Oh I've got one of those, here it's yours". It's those little things, those, "ah it's not a big deal things" that make this site, cool. And that's all I've got to say about that!

John BigBlock61 Hmmmm it does have a ring to it. :) Yea most of the time I just forget stuff like that and I feel like I've known you all for years now so why wouldn't you know my last name, forgetting that it's a message board and how could you know it? For the record it's Gurczynski. NO Polock jokes, I've heard them all haha.

yeah there's some good people here

got the upper control arms degreased, ball joints & bushings removed, sandblasted, and painted. I think they came out pretty good, now on to installing the new bushings and ball joints.

This is true Ron, my parts washer and blast cabinet sure are getting a workout and I'm figuring out what I have to do to keep the dust out of the air. My blast cabinet is turning into a Frankencabinet lol.

For now I've been cleaning, blasting and painting the rest of the front end parts till I can find my ball joint socket. I may have to break down and see if I can borrow one.

Went last Sunday to dvw's house to borrow his ball joint tool. I so want his garage! 3 bay, 14ft (I'm Guessing?) ceilings, a hoist and heat!!! He showed me his 64 Belvedere race car. From what he says this car gets raced every season but you'd never know it by looking at it. This car is immaculate and his attention to detail is second to none. From the outside the car looks stock but with a great paint job. On closer inspection you find the race stuff. I got the ball joints installed, had a beer and shared some great stories. Doug is a top-notch guy. After I made it home I cleaned, painted and assembled some of the front end parts.

I have some touch up work to do on the control arms but that's no big deal. Now I have to start disassembling the lower control arms and get them ready.

Today my boy Ej bought himself a 1994 Dodge Dakota with a bad trans. We spent most of the day in the melted snow removing the trans. He's having a great time, I'm too old for this sh-t!!!!! lol. No pics yet but I'll try and post some later. I'd put it in the garage but the Coronet is in there and it's more important than a Dakota. :) After school ends for the semester next week I'll start tearing it down and rebuilding it. I've done a small amount of research and now wondering if the A518 trans can be made to work with my 440 and hold up to 600HP? It would be nice to have a 727 with overdrive. I did read an article about cutting off the bell housing and attaching an aftermarket big block housing. I wonder if I could just weld one on????? I'm going to have to look into this one further.

Warmer weather and a propane heater makes it possible to get back out in the garage to work more on the Coronet. I decided to tackle the issues I'm having with the right quarter. I rehung the door, matched up the body lines and gaps so I have a reference on what the front of the quarter should be shaped like. From there I cut the old weld line that I made last year that had deformed horribly and added some metal to the front so I actually had an edge that went across the top of the quarter.

QuarterFit_R_11.jpg

It took me two days to weld the new line and I only cut what you can see. I really wanted to take my time and minimize distortion. I have enough of that already. :) I'm going to have a lot of body work to do along this line but between the two different welds I don't think it can be avoided. I think I'm going to fill it in with lead when the time comes.

QuarterFit_R_12.jpg

I can't latch the door closed yet because I have a big hole where the door latch should be but I was able to line things up pretty good. Once everything is perfect I'll move on to the next area. One patch at a time, right?!

QuarterFit_R_10.jpg

For the back of the quarter I'm going to have to get a profile gauge so I can match the right side to the left. I've got lots of learning and lots of fixing on my horizon but I refuse to let this car kick my ***.

QuarterFit_R_13.jpg

looks like the car's *** is the one getting kicked...good job!

Keep on keeping on man!!! It's not about getting knocked down brother...........we've all been there, it's about getting back up.

Eyes on the prize Padre!

Great to see you back at the metal work! getting the hard stuff done is the biggest challenge.
