Advice for 1970 Sport Satellite

Go for the head gaskets in car. Your only out the price of gaskets and a little time if the problems are bigger. A few hours time you will have it together. Have the guys over to help and you will probably have it up and tunning in no time. Those 318s are tough little fuckers...
TLF318 !

OK put your Sherlock Holmes hats on I was thinking there were two confirmed failures in the head gasket almost directly opposite each other on the cylinders. What could be the cause of failure like that? What could cause excessive pressure? And how are those two cylinders possibly related? Unfortunate was not able to do any work today hopefully tomorrow.

Once you get the intake and heads off you will have a better idea..

If i remember right the 318 head bolts go into the water jacket too. Doubt they could leak bad enough to cause your issue but might want some silicone for the bolts when reassembling.

Ok and some say never re-use the old ones (bolts). Although I’m not sure why I think it’s probably a good thing to do.

Torque yield, or stretch bolts should not be reused. I don't believe your head uses these type bolts.

Here we go......

Oil and coolant drained. Header bolts removed but I need to get back under her to disconnect the headers from the exhaust. I have never installed or removed heads. They should pull away as one entire assembly with no further dismantling correct? Any adive here is appreciated!!

Yes. Just bolts from the exhaust manifold to the head if not too rusty. Hope you used a hoist for the intake!

I put a couple bolts back in loosely crack the head loose and remove the pushrods see you don’t bend them

Thanks Jim, as I draw the head back will the pushrods come loose without any rocker loosening?

Or just evenly loosen an remove the few bolts and pull the rockers. Easy. Keep orientation and pushrods in order for same reassembly
