Am I getting burned? What are you paying for your annual car registration?

I know, our late model cars will have higher rates and of course, pickup trucks have additional fees but I'm curious about the fees we pay just to register an old car.
Some states offer a reduced rate for Vintage, Classic, Historic, etc but from what I see, California does not.
I had to go to the DMV today to straighten out a few things and I reregistered this car:

$154 ? I couldn't get the clerk to spell out if that was an annual rate or what. He garbled some BS and then looked as confused as I was. I may have been late to pay the last time and maybe there were late fees that are not clearly defined.
Ca members.... @beanhead @Dennis H @68 Sport Satellite ...you guys have '68 and '69 models. Do you remember what your annual fees are?
Last year when we were looking at properties in Arizona, I was shocked at how CHEAP it was to register cars there. I know that this BS state rips us off everywhere but I thought that the old cars were still under $100 annually.

We paid $196 for my 69 Firebird, but it's possible my wife paid it late.

Last registration fee on my 68 Coronet was $48 in 2006.

I hate California.

a month ago i got plates and registration for my 62 for $24.... my 2018 grand cherokee is like $230 though...

Mine used to be $15 each but I think they are up to around $30 each now.

Green Challenger = $167
Red Challenger = $172
I would have kept the red one registered in Texas but Texas requires an annual safety inspection... I'm not driving back to Texas for an inspection...

would also cost much more to drive there than to just register...

Five years (reg due again in 2029) for under a hundred bucks for a 2002 2500 diesel pickup.
I ALWAYS buy 5 year registration in arizona..... for well under what one year costs in california.

Our nice Provincial Premier got rid of our yearly $120 plate stickers! Saving us $960 a year at this stage...

As for safeties, as long as you own a car in Ontario it never needs a safety. My Bee hasn't been done since 1986 when it officially went into my name from Mom's.

The first time you buy a car in Georgia they hit you with a 7% Title Ad Valorem Tax on what they decide is the fair market value. Every year thereafter is $20.

Vanity plates have an upfront fee plus a yearly fee.

Antique plates are extra. You need this so you can display your YOM license plate on the car. Keep the antique plates and paperwork in the trunk in case Roscoe has any questions.

No emissions checks around here, but Atlanta has some requirements.

No safety inspections around here, but local law enforcement can write you a ticket for a cracked windshield, inoperable lights, illegal lights, and worn tires. Typically, law enforcement will write these tickets after pulling someone for speeding, etc. Pile it on!

I'll add, original registration for an acquired car. We have to pay 13% tax on the highest value of what you paid for the car, what the (mandatory) appraisal for a car over 25 years of age is, or the agreed value of insurance coverage you have put on the car.

Vanity plates like my HENS 2TH are $320 + tax.

Thanks.
I didn't know the exact annual fees since all the mail and bills go to the wife. She pays them and never complains.
$154 annually though? What the heck, man? Why would your Challengers be different rates from each other given that they are the same year? Why would they stick you with a higher rate than me? I wonder if some of the fee structure includes local tax rates?

Red car back in the late eighties/early 90's was around $30 a year.. Green car first time running since the seventies in 96 registration was $32... Then the state found a new revenue stream..... Crazy thing is the green Challenger has vanity plates, the red one does not but costs more.....

Hellcat California Plate Sticker $858 a year.
Hellcat Florida Plate Sticker $97 for TWO years.

That's since they changed the law because my 2011 Challenger R/T still costs $193 because of purchase prior to registration change.
