Anyone else do 6.4 out of truck swap?

The truck intake is another story. No room for the 2 speed wiper. I don’t have a 3 speed to try. Might have to do some cutting there. I haven’t got my front sheetmetal on but i mounted a fender for a look and the intake looks very tall. Anyone have the measurements on a six pack hood scoop? I’m thinking of an adaptor elbow between the intake and throttle body.

What didn’t you like about your RMS suspension? It seems like a pretty simple setup as far as aftermarket setups go. I haven’t driven it yet but, i will be able to do a side by comparison with a friends 69 Roadrunner

I am simply not a fan of the replacement front end setups. I don't see them as an improvement over the durable factory design. The factory setup was lighter than what GM and Ford were doing. It was durable too.
One thing I can say that I do like is rack and pinion steering. It often is quite responsive and is also light.

This is a shot on the drivers side frame rail showing brake lines/prop valve, hydro boost lines, and hydraulic clutch line. It was taken before I got the transmission in and without the header, steering shaft, or starter in place. Lots of stuff in the same area.You can see how tight the oil cooler is in my other posts. If I was doing it over i would put the starter on the passenger side to free up some space.

I got one from Hotwire. I just laid it in today for the first time. Might have to re route some of the wires. Still haven’t figured out if the truck intake can be used under the stock hood.

It looks pretty close, but I'm sure a six pack hood would help it clear. I have a six pack scoop on my duster, if you need dimensions I could measure it tomorrow and let you know. Well at least the size of the scoop, placement on your factory hood is something I don't know.

Make sure you match up your flywheel to your bellhousing;

The trucks motors have the starters on the drivers side and the ring gear on the flywheel is on the side of the tranny. Car motors have starter on passenger side and the ring gear is towards the motor. Make sure you check this because the crate motor that I have has the truck flywheel, and I have the "8076" bell housing which puts the starter on the passenger side. This is very important because it all bolts together and everything looks great until you try and start it. Now I have to take it all apart and replace the flywheel - what a bummer...."

What starter are you using? I also have a truck 130t flywheel but starter on drivers side. I have a power master xs 9523 on order now as per TTI instructions. It doesn’t mention anything about what side the ring gear is on. None of my keisler instructions mentioned anything about starter stuff.

I hear yeah - is your ring gear towards the transmission or the motor. I couldn’t find anything in the instructions that mention it but I believe that if you get the starter on the driver side the ringest goes towards the transmission. Let me know if you find something different because I haven’t taken my tranny out yet .

My ring gear is on the tranny side. Installed the starter, header, steering shaft, and oil dipstick tube. Had to reshape the truck dipstick tube to fit. Also had to cut a piece out of the block for the starter to fit (see pic). Header needed a dimple to clear the starter. Everything has clearance

Thanks for the info, my intake points up on a truck motor also. So it looks like I'll be doing the same thing. I bought this 6.4 from a truck in a shop fire. I plan on changing the top end anyway, but was not sure how deep this rabbit hole is gonna be. But for 1,000 bucks and 40,000 miles on it, I'm up for it. ThanksView attachment 726984

Before you change all that stuff check out the intake they use on jeep conversions. The company is called americas most wanted 4x4. They sell the intake separate. I may have to go this route also if i can’t work around my hood clearance problem .

So I got the front sheet metal on and the truck intake does not clear the hood. Throttle body sticks up too far and the module that runs the active runners has the wiring plug at the top that hits the hood. Need about another inch. So now I’m looking at maybe making a elbow to point the t/b down and changing where the connection on the module plugs in. Otherwise looks like the jeep conversion intake might be next.

Hey Jeff, I looked up that manifold on America's most wanted 4x4 website to check it out. I think it's a srt8 manifold part number 61890715ac which is on a srt jeep as well as a challenger/charger/300. For the price they are asking you can pick one up at a mopar direct website for $680 ish. If that helps. I'm thinking on a Victor 2 edelbrock manifold myself, although I'm hearing mixed reviews on it, I think it will increase 30lb of torque across the board. I don't know about how much clearance on a barracuda, but I can go for a AAR hood if I had to. Thanks

The challenger ones don’t have the straight t/b like that one does. I looked at the victor one too but no one can tell me if it clears the truck front drive setup and it doesn’t have the variable runners.

You're right, I got a better look at the manifold and it's straight instead of off to one side. I'm gonna give amw4x4 tomorrow and get the scoop on it. I'm curious if this clears a truck front cover or not. I'm thinking the jeep jk uses this to put the air box on the right side.

I haven't tried this yet, but I decided to look up forums on people adding the dual alternator setup for their 392 rams for additional lights or what not. I found a list of part numbers to order or search online for to make the change. If you look at the front cover of dual alternator engine, I think you can eliminate the upper alternator, grind the cover where the upper alternator mounts, eliminate the idler pulley below the upper alternator and run a shorter belt to run from the waterpump to the power steering pump. By doing this you can run a regular 6.4 intake, 6.1 intake or the edelbrock victor without any clearance issues. The second alternator would mount on the lower passenger side with a double crankshaft pulley for a separate belt to run the new alternator. I don't think you would need a harness, just extend the alternator wires to reach the lower location. Again, I haven't tried this yet. Just random thoughts from a mad man!

So, I called the guys at americas most wanted 4x4 to inquire on their 6.4 intake. Really cool sales man, the intake they sale is a stock 6.4 intake from a challenger/charger and they modifed the the throttle body opening to a straight out let. They said it fits the crate hemi or car front cover but can not guarantee it will clear the truck set up if that helps any. Being a car intake, it is a lower profile intake compared to the truck version which is taller due to the longer runners for more torque.

I finally kicked all the other stuff out of the shop and have been on this car for the last week. The 6.4 truck motor does fit in the hole but will not clear the hood. I ordered a hemi scoop to use with a flat hood. I think the amw jeep conversion intake would clear but buy the time I get it here with new injector rails it is 2K. I did have to change the rms supplied motor mounts. I moved the spool mounts forward 1 inch. This gave me the clearance at the firewall for the wiper motor (had to get a 3 speed) and heater hoses to tuck behind. And it centered the notch on the tremec Transmision at the crossmember. This also gave me more room at the truck oil filter adaptor/cooler.

Even though the truck oil pan cleared the crossmember and rack it was too deep in the sump and only had 4 inches of ground clearance which is not enough for roads around here so I switched to the milodon 31000 with 18341 pickup. Used the same pan bolts and truck dipstick with a felpro gasket. The dipstick tube had to be reformed to clear the tti headers and i haven't made a bracket at the top yet but the stick slides in and out with the new pan. The stick did need to be trimmed at the end.
