Anyone else do 6.4 out of truck swap?

Truck ac pump clears and i have all the lines made to hook up to my vintage air stuff. Don’t know if it will work together or not but it all fits. Working on exhaust and fan shroud the rest of the week.

I was at a mopar car show this weekend and saw 4 hemi conversions. It gave me some pretty good ideas, one is 2 of them ran their ac lines on the out side fender wells behind the fenders. The used bulk head fittings to connect the lines on either side of the fender wells and into the cab. It really cleaned up the engine bay. Food for thought.

I used hard lines for most of it and brought it in the a pillar.

Everything is hooked up and full of fluid but still haven’t finished the air intake tube. Car is in paint jail. Had a couple of glitches with the Hotwire harness. Map sensor was different on the truck motor and srv solenoid harness was too short. Talked with Chris and got those fixed up. Should be firing it up next week. Used the old egr coolant hoses to run to the heater core

Made a couple of adaptors to connect the rad hoses to the griffin rad. Put a spout on the bottom hose to complete the loop for the stock oil cooler.

What didn’t you like about your RMS suspension? It seems like a pretty simple setup as far as aftermarket setups go. I haven’t driven it yet but, i will be able to do a side by comparison with a friends 69 Roadrunner

When you get it on the road, go in a parking lot & crank the wheel to full lock... Now try to drive in a circle.... You will find the the car initially turns then it slows dow as the tires bind.... Next you will feel a noticeable wiggle as the inside tire "steps over" to get back in it's desired circle.... As you continue to circle the binding & stepping over will repeat... This is because the ackerman angle is completely wrong...

Next release the steering wheel while continuing the circle.. Normally the steering should return to center but it won't.... This is a combination of ackerman angle & SIA being wrong....

Basically the AlterKation suspension is a knock off of what street rodeos call the Mustang II suspension.... Which is in reality a Pinto suspension.. Since the pinto came out three years before the Mustang II & both are the same platform...

With minor changes the 63-74 Mopar suspension works pretty well, the geometry is certainly better than the AlterKation & the only advantage the AlterKation system has is more space & rack & pinion.... Personally I'd rather dial in the OE stuff & get a good steering box...

Still working on assembling the rest of the car but, motor is at engine shop. In the mad scramble to get this car running for the summer I worked on it 280 hrs in a month. Engine fired up sounded great, no leaks but didn’t sound quite right. Let it warm up a couple of times to set up the electric fans then bang. Tore engine apart to find a part of a rag that I had covering the opening of the t/b trying to go out the exaust valve. Bent valves and broken piston. Stupid mistake with no one to blame! So 8 new pistons and all the related parts to reassemble the engine. Otherwise the truck 6.4 is a good option for a gen 3 swap. Can’t wait to get it back in and running before snow.

I wondered about the 6.4 fitting in my 67 Coronet. Should do, right? Had a guy ask me about it the other day just out of curiosity.

Motor mounts, drop right in. Then you’ve got headers, wiring harness, computer, fuel system etc., but it’s totally doable. Just costs more, but you have a dead on reliable set up.

Finally getting near the end of this swap again. So after having to take my engine from one shop for dickin me around and outright over charging, and getting another shop to finish the job. I got 8 new mmx forged pistons, new rod, main,and head bolts, gaskets, etc. Got the motor back in. The truck intake had shreds of rag in it that couldn’t be cleaned out so I ended up putting a 6.1 intake on it instead. Worked out better for hood clearance and probably didn’t need a 3 speed wiper motor.

I made the intake air tube pass through the rad support to position the air filter behind the grill for cold air. With the shorter 6.1 intake I am able to use a flat hood. Put a pair of stock style scoops on it to finish it off. Not going to use the big hemi scoop that was needed to clear the truck intake.

Every time I walk by my Ram with the 5.7 Hemi I contemplate pulling it and sticking it in the Express...

And it moves on its own again. Just need to finish hood and install some trim. Might be a good idea to take the green tape off too. Test drive and sort out any bugs now that the weather has been better. Ride height has to come up about an inch to drive on roads around here. Need 6 inches to be safe.
