Proof you need to keep your eyes moving when driving. So damn many distracted dodo's on the road. Whenever I'm slowing down for a stop/turn/traffic etc I especially watch the rear view to see if whoever is behind me is paying attention. What a bummer for that owner. They are going to be physically hurting for awhile. Then the insurance pain after. Going to be interesting there for sure.

My guess is an SUV, something a bit narrower than the GTX given how the quarters seem less squashed in then the trunk area.
Texting Tracy on the way to pick up her kids is my theory.
I hope the occupants recover fully. If the GTX had no headrests their necks would likely have broke from that amount of force.
I do get nervous about driving my cars around given the number of wreckless and careless idiots I am forced to share the road with.

Hard to get away from this stuff, about 10 years ago in my gtx, stopped at a light in my rear view mirror saw a car comming fast, he locked the brakes and quickly went into the right lane, nailed the car right next to me.
Both looked totaled....
I pulled over everyone seemed to be ok, cops came and I went on my way..... could have been me!

Seeing that one tailpipe is still sticking out straight, I'd say something a bit taller, but whatever hit it must have been flying to do that kind of damage.
I was at the show Saturday and my car was in the roadrunner gtx class. The highway (I-80/50) heading west from the show is under a lot of construction with a lot of traffic. I drove an extra 20 miles home to avoid that area.

I hope the occupants injuries aren’t life threatening and they can recover. It looks like a very severe impact, possibly from a semi truck. Not much you can do to avoid being rear ended if you’re stopped in traffic, especially if the driver coming up behind you isn’t paying attention.

What a waste. These cars make it through 55 years then a moments inattention from some careless driver and it's gone. Hope the occupants come out okay.
Something very similar happened to me one morning when I was an apprentice. The woman in the car next to me looked across....we knew one of us was going to get hit. Lucky it wasn't my '69 Charger.
My new driving habits are making me a nervous wreck, I feel the need to be watching my rear view mirror way too much these days no matter what I’m driving
