I was posting on another Mopar website yesterday (of which I am no longer a member), and I made the mistake of mentioning I own a 68 Mustang. I surely opened a can of worms there because I got severely bashed with angry, rude and hateful comments. I'm having trouble understanding why there is so much hate in this hobby for multi brand classic car owners?
And I hate to have to "bring it real", but it's my opinion that Mopar owners are the biggest offenders. I spent most of my afternoon today combing the archives in the other brand x forums that i belong to, and never found anything as outrageous as what I experienced yesterday. And don't misunderstand me, I'm not trying to be a hardass here. There's nothing I love more than exchanging jabs with my next door neighbor because he owns a Studebaker. But all in good fun and never anything hurtful.
But yesterday I was called a traitor and accused of not understanding what "Brand Loyalty" means. Here's my opinion about that...........
As a former UAW/Chrysler employee, I know exactly what brand loyalty is about. I spent many years living and breathing it. But in my opinion, when it comes to our classic cars, the term brand loyal is a moot point. 30,40 and 50 year old classics no longer become Dodges and Pontiac's, but rather precious works of art to be appreciated, admired and preserved no matter what brand.
It's not about WHAT you drive, it's THAT you drive. And it should be about preserving and growing the hobby without prejudice.
I pose this to all the Furd and Chebby haters here. Next time your at the car show with your Mopar, take a closer look at the guy parked next to you with his brand x. I guarantee you his hands are just as greasy and bloody as yours. And his pockets are just as empty too. But he's only doing the same thing you are. Living and loving the greatest hobby in the world!
I'm stepping of my soapbox now and back into my paint booth.
As always, I appreciate and respect your opinions and rebuttals. Nicholas
