Car Shows and lack of Mopars

For many years now at big shows like Goodguys I walk right by all the tri-five chevys and Camaros, it makes it easier to spend time on the rest. There are always quite a few Mopars at those shows.

That's a good show. Still mostly gassers, camaros, mustangs, t-buckets and tri -fives. I saw over a thousand cars, only one wing car, one Super bee, and one GTX. Maybe a dozen beepers.

Hi BeeKool, Next year I will buy you a cold beer & will have to take you on the mopar tour at good guys.

Beer and Mopars. A king and his castle, sounds like a plan. What part of the state are you from? I'm from Iowa Falls

That's good. I can only make it 1 day. My ride prob won't be done by then. But I enjoy looking at other rides more than sitting by mine.

I do remember some really nice 66 and 67 Coronets. They have a nice look in and out

There's a young gun from Parkersburg that has a cool 67 Coronet he is working on. I am from Waterloo. Never been to the Des Moines show.

I stopped going to nearly all car shows with my rides. Too much Chevy and Ford snobbery going on. I even overheard one guy say as he passed my car "what's this doing here?". Most attendees just walked past both of my cars without even turning their heads to look. Not that I really care what others think about my rides, but are they so shallow that they couldn't even be bothered looking at the competition? Their loss.

More than likely that guy doesn't own a car, or he's queer. Never had anybody "dis" my car, but of course there is some rivalry among car people around here. Most people in this area appreciate nice cars no matter what brand. And, thank you for your service.

I posted a new show in Motown 9-18-16. We'll see how many mopars show. I'm guessing most will have a reason not to go.

I'll tell you what gets me at car shows more than anything else: Owners who don't know jack **** about their cars, because the extent of their ownership has been behind the wheel or behind a paycheck, but never held a wrench or made a decision in the car's evolution.

I don't hold that against them so much, as much as their type of conversation. There's not much past the point of "...yea, I like to drive my car too" and listening to their "my-car-is-better" baloney.

It's as if they show up not to show the car, but to use it as a tool to remind the community of their self-proclaimed perception of badassery (also known as being a jerk from the POV of everyone else).

? what are you trying to say?..........at car shows many are older, handicapped, men, women & spend a lot of time prepping their cars....also , not just judged show but participant voting shows, where your peers are the people that make the decision on the top cars.... it is just worth the time to see spectators looking & enjoying the classics.....
I used to build, wrench, & race my cars.....now I am at an age that I cannot do heavy work on my car....I still work 60 hours per week & I do best so I can get the best for MY car......I do what I can but need help & if I have to pay for it, so be it. ...I love the hobby.

1st off the Mopar & AMC {2nd} contingents were built in far fewer #'s
like 4 times as much as 10:1 {even 15}, that's a big part why they are so much rarer...
A lot more parts out there for a GM or Ford or even Rice rockets,
than Mopars, albeit it's been good the last 10 or so years,
budget & popularity, even KNOWLEDGE is a huge driving factor in reality...
People need to be schooled...LOL

I like to be different, not just another plain vanilla cookie cutter car,
even as it goes to Mopars...
I kind of do my own thing & don't care what others think...

I don't really go to car shows anymore, kind of by choice now...
Because & No I don't hate the litany of all the brand x models
Camaros, Mustangs, Novas, Trans Ams, Gassers, GTOs, Chevelles, Firebirds,
Galaxies, Fairlane's, El Camino's, Ranchero's, or tri-5's, Impalas or
Lifted 4x4's {that never see dirt}, or Corvettes
or all the litany of the newer cars, right off the showroom like;
Chargers, Challengers, Camaros, Mustangs, Porsches, Jags, Benz's, BMW's
or tuners or decked out pavement pounder Jeeps that never seen the dirt etc.
Albeit I'm not a fan of rice rockets really, or all glitzed out &
watted out big $$$ stereos & 15 TV's, Mini-Truck, Ferraris, Lambos or Lowriders...

I do respect all the work that goes into most all of them,
I'm just more of a guy who likes to do something, not just walk around,
look at parked cars...
I've been a racer most my adult life, bikes, quads, cars, boats, drags, sprints etc.
but recent family issues, paying off kids school loans etc./income/spending
& my dads health, being semi-retired far less $$$, has stopped me from doing,
many things I use to regularly...

I do love the cars, especially race or muscle era cars,
yes even some of the Brand X stuff, I've owned most all of them too...
Mopar is my 1st love, but I'm not blind either...
I'm just not into the checkbook builds usually, as much as the home built...
Albeit some of the checkbook builds are really nice...
Or the overly **** purist builds either, I'm not a VIN or Fender-tag snob
although if I seem something rare, I'll peak, but if it's nice I don't really care,
if it's 100% OEM correct or not...

I just seem to find something else to do on most weekends,
when the car shows are going on, not planned that way either...
Most are too far away or I just don't want to go down to the valley to
look at a bunch of cars parked all in a row...
Now if it was a race, that's a different story...
I may break my streak of non-participation for that soon...

You don't have to hate Chevy/GM, Ford/Japanese/Foriegn stuff or whomever
to still be loyal & still love Mopars...
Albeit some of them are really nice too...

I like some of the Rat-rod or what we use to call Hotrod stuff,
not the rusted out POS's, that are all cobbled up with kitchen hardware etc.
but not really the all billet type builds either, but I have awed over a few of them too...

I'm not really a big crowd guy anymore,
been there done that, not my cup of tea anymore...

I'm an equal opportunity automotive gear-head enthusiast,
but even sometimes I'd be over checking out the tow rigs & trailers/haulers too...

I've met some of the nicest & rudest people because of cars, races or shows...

enjoy,
"Build them how you want them
use what ever parts you deem necessary
drive them like you stole them
damn the rest & who cares what others think"

Do what ever rocks your boat...

You bring up a good point, so I reworded my original comment:

I'll tell you what gets me at car shows more than anything else: Owners who won't admit knowing jack **** about their cars, because the extent of their ownership has been behind the wheel or behind a paycheck, and their ego won't let them say so.

I'm trying to say that the type of jackass who buys and shows a '68 Charger with the sole purpose of expecting others to stroke their ego for them is the type of person who ruins a car show. Think of the awful personality type they gave Burt Reynolds' Bandit character in Smokey & The Bandit 2. So concerned with the public "loving them" that they think anyone who doesn't automatically stroke their ego is beneath them.

Come to think of it, it doesn't even matter whether one is invested in the car enough to make a decision on it, as a hands-on guy can be just as much an ego problem at a car show, and a hands-off guy just as passionate. Really, all that matters is whether the point of ownership is to "enjoy car" or "be admired because I have this car." The former is the basis for every happy car enthusiast. The latter is the guy who should never disgrace a car show with his presence.

Have missed most of the local shows this year. I ran down to Mopars at the Red Barns in Gilmore but unfortunately it rained most of the day. I have a bunch of friends around the mid-michigan area with Mopars so when we all go you can there will be 8-10 mopars for sure. I did run down to the Woodward Cruise on Friday evening (a few weeks back) for the first time this year. Amazing to see and cant' wait to cruise in it myself next year. Lots of Mopars like mmissile has mentioned down in the Detroit area. Some great examples at the Mopar exhibit though several were covered due to the threat of rain. When I finally get my car on the road, looking more and more like next year now, I'll be going to the local shows and hoping to setup a couple cruises with all my other Mopar buddies. I've had to wait 30 years to get my Mopar and I'm going to enjoy it as much as possible.

It's a great Mopar show. hundreds of cars and trucks, swap meet area, lots of Barns and buildings on the property with all kinds of historical vehicles. People come from all over the state and even IN and OH. plowman was asked to put his car on display for a month or so. I saw several cars that I've seen here on FBBO.
I have some family in NW Missouri and in Omaha. I'm hoping sometime to be able to drive my car out there and see them. Maybe I could time out that Iowa show.

It rained on my car for 6 hours this year. Not exactly a stellar day, after such a long drive and crap weather.
That's sucks. Better luck next year. I wish I lived closer I would be there.
