Don's 1969 Charger Restoration

Lets put it together (a-pillars 2 front clip)

Ok now that I have the a-pillars tacked on it is time to join them to the front clip at the lower cowl. Remember, I had rotated the front clip out of the way so I had room to join the a-pillars. Now that I had them roughed in, I lifted and sat the front of the roof support on 4x4's (to clear the cowl) while I rotated the front clip back into position.
Next I needed to lift the entire roof support with the the back end higher than the front so I could kind of "hook" the knuckle end of the a-pillars into the opening of the upper cowl. (Hope your following me) This would be a real pain in the rear by myself, and I didn't have 3 freinds to call (1 on each corner) so this is what I came up with ...............

In this pic you can see how the a-pillar knuckle is hooked in.

Nice to see it going BACK together there Don . . . it's starting to look like a car again and not just abstract art ! ! Keep at it - thanks for the updates . . .

You've got gonads the size of medicine balls Don! It truly is amazing work you're doing on the Charger. I can imagine some of the things you are going through just from what I'm doing on my Coronet. Two thumbs up.:thumbsup:

ill Pass on most everything Don but i do need to say it's what your doing to accomplish what i am very sure you'll be proud of when done that gives so many of the rest of us inspiration with what we are doing! So may are going the extra mile, not just to save a car but to have the car we want, sometimes the money just isint there to buy a turn key car to drive away and have fun, sometimes we have to go that extra mile, sometimes we want just to say some day, "I built it" whatever way, we all need inspiration, some of us gets it from guys like you, Where ever you get it outside of just pure love of the car and design... i envy ya! :)

Attachment of a-pillars to cowl

Now that I have the roof back on the jig. Its to time to permanatly attach the a-pillars to the cowl.
Notice that I had to peel back the upper cowl so I could get the "knuckle" of the a-pillar to seat

Unreal work you do Don! i cant imagine what go's thru your mind getting all this done and keeping track of just how its supposed to be, Very nice and neat on top of that!!!

Don, thanks for posting those closeup pics of the a-pillars. I've started repairing that section on my car and it was so rotted out that I couldn't tell the a-pillar from the door support and I have a lot of gaps in that area. Looking at yours I can see exactly how it fits together. you were a huge help and you didn't even know it. You Rock!

Thanks BB61, I learned a few things myself. I think the biggest thing is not to be afraid of fixing this area. Just take your time, plan it out as best you can, and go for it! It would be nice if AMD came out with the metal to fix these, I spent a LOT of time on this.

been awhile since I looked at this thread wow is all I can say looking very good :headbang:

That is some serious work you got going on there. I'm not sure if I would even attempt to try that. Maybe find someone that already has. hint hint
