help me out on this engine build

Haha yea I have moved far away from just heads, but do you guys think the 408 will do well against that gxp (had to ask) , I'm still thinking of grabbing that hemi for my soon to be durango that has a sluggish 318, do you guys think the engine is worth 500........the 408 stroker probably won't be complete until I get the rango the doba is still my daily driver

Two things:

Thing one...how much damage was done to the 5.7? Is it just a core engine? At this point in time (February 22, 2011) it will likely be cheaper in the long run to buy a wrecked car with a good engine so that you can re-use all of the wiring that actually makes the engine and trans run.

Thing two...'there is no replacement for displacement' You will, again, be money (and cubic inches) ahead if you simply buy a 400-440 instead of putting lots of cash in an LA.
Heavy cars need lots-o-torque to get them moving. A 400 inch small block can make power, but it will cost more per inch for the same amount of torque than does a big block.

Your best bet is to build a spreadsheet and honestly compare the actual costs....

.

Well as far cash go i have a scheduled engine building class an I will have access to ALL of the equipment to grind, bore and whatnot. So price wise I'm thinking of 408 since I won't have to buy another block....
