Help! New 572 vibration at 3000 RPM

Sure, it appears there is some run out on the ring gear.
“If” the converter were balanced, that would be accounted for during the balancing.

The converter itself “should be” running true to the crank, since the hub on the converter should be located by register at the back of the crank.

Speaking of the converter.......have you done a high gear roll on stall check to see what the stall is?

Any updates?
So where do you think this is heading to? Going to keep my reservations to myself at this point until INDY comes up with a plan! If they make things right I’ll be good with that and move on. Think it’s a crank balancing issue, but obviously can’t confirm anything yet.

DragWeek was a bust. Forfeited my ticket last week, out the 500 bucks for that. Had to cancel all the hotel rooms, built a trailer for no reason, spent thousands on new tires, fluids, filters, etc. Just because I thought I was going on dragweek. None of that stuff really needed to be done. Also did a complete service on my tow vehicle, which as any Cummins owner knows, service is quite expensive. Had to realign my schedule at work because I was supposed to be on vacation, but yeah, all that.

Damn, that sucks.
I know this doesn’t help, but there is always next year to look forward to.

Agree. That completely sucks. Maybe it's a good thing for me that drag week will never be on the west coast.....

So the convertor with that oop ti do in ring gear isn't it. Wow if it's Indy's they should go a few extra miles to make it right. Some parts you could use or?? All that planning and money.

I think Tom Bailey is doing a Sick Week in Death Valley in October. It's their first one so it might be a cluster.

OP...I am gutted for you. Especially the max effort and $$$ to get everything done in time. Sadly, I know exactly what that feels like. It's deflating.

Anymore info about the death valley race? I have a friend......

Seriously though, my buddies avenger promod isnt ready.... but his son has his old 1200 hp turbo stroker LS Malibu street car, and a very, very fast sn95 mustang (was high fives, QUARTER, at one time) that might be interested.
They are in central az.

Yes sir! Here you go:

If I were to choose between a Drag Week or a Sick Week event, I'd go with Sick Week. I have 2 buddies that have done them and they said Tom's events are more about the racing and hanging out, whereas Drag Week is more about the drives in-between the tracks. DW is more of an intense endurance test.

No idea if that comparison is true or not, but hell....I think either sounds like a lot of fun. Bucket list item of mine.

Bucket list for me too, been planning for it since 2018 when it was in the north East but just couldn’t put it together. My son is now graduated high school so he and I are doing it together. I really was looking forward to spending time with him. He is a car guy like me and has a 95 mustang 302 basic Bolt on’s HCIE runs 12.5’s and we do a lot of shows together. I been showing the car for years and have many trophies to show for it, but At this point I just want to use it for what it was intended for. I’m done with the show seen I want to do drag and drives and enjoy it.

That sik week is 2000 miles!?! I dont know if i could do that in a stock car, let alone a race car!

Probably gonna go spectate first or second day, tho.

Wow.......that sucks.
Did they indicate their course of action?
As in......put it on the dyno before taking anything apart?

Keep us posted as to the outcome.

Yeah.. whats funny is i LOVED sick week this year and drag week i'm just not into.. i have just been flipping through the video after the event. i used to watch the full live feed each day

To bad you couldn't run the engine with a balanced flywheel to make sure it wasn't the convertor.

So from what I understand (After a long conversation and a few days for Indy to do some recon) The crank was balanced to a specific Bob weight at Callie’s and is made specifically for my application or stuff that’s very close. Once the Diamond pistons and Callie’s rods where assembled and then weighed, the crank needed to be lightend by 15oz. Indy found the work order for the final balance, and noted what the weight needed removed, but what they can’t find is the confirmation that the work was actually done. Not on paper or logs in machine. Also according to them, they aren’t able to ask the guy that was supposed to do the work because (get this) he doesn’t work there anymore! Lol

Indy doesn’t think that 15oz is far enough off to crate a problem but feels possibly that it could create a harmonic at a specific rpm and be magnified.

The plan is to get the engine back and they will pull the crank and check balance. Then I will have them run on Dyno before sending it back. Now who is paying for shipping and Dyno time is still not clear, but I can tell you I don’t think I should be paying for it!!

Stuff happens with every company... a good measure is how a company takes care of issues when they pop up...

I will send converter back also and have it redone. I think it needs another 500 rpm to get me closer to 5000. It feels very tight right now. Will have the ring gear and balance checked again

A motor with a cam as long as what you have there should have at least 5000 stall.

Of course, there’s always the situation in a street car of trying to balance street use vs the best ET.
Then throw the GV into the mix.......

As for the balance issue.......my personal opinion is that an engine using that caliber of internal components should be individually balanced.

I would like to think the new ownership/management does a better job of customer service than the old ownership.....
Can't be worse.... oh.. a valve seat dropped on first startup? that sucks... wanna buy another head?
