If you were motivated, could you drive your car across country starting tomorrow?

OOPS! Punched wrong key. When going to the Charger 50th in Detroit 2016, there was a fellow that said he thought he would make the long trip. Turns out someone mentioned that under 60 miles was not a long trip. Not a exact quote.

Just said goodbye to my 69 today…..after 43 years of ownership it’s moving on to Vegas Baby…..

sellers remorse ?

There's usually a good reason to sell

hope you got good $$$ for her
at least it's going to a dry state, live a long & prosperous life

I saw this. Stuck the sad news in the middle of our nonsense. 43 years. Wow. I couldn't imagine how hard that was. But a good reminder that nothing is forever. And I'm betting there is a new owner ecstatic. I hope you have solace in that.

Years ago with a different cam, a 727 with 3.91s and a GV Overdrive, I got 12 mpg in my Charger driving about 60 mph. That is just too damn slow, man! Now I have a milder cam, 3.55s and a Tremec 5 speed. I roll down the road at 70 doing 1900 rpms. I have not checked the fuel economy yet but I am guessing that I'm capable of 13-15 mpg even at 70. My 2007 Ram 1500 gets maybe 18 at freeway speeds so a long distance drive isn't as expensive as you might think. The issue now becomes Range. The truck has a 26 gallon tank, the Charger has 19. I've driven stretches of road where you go quite a way between gas stations. Interstate 5 between Stockton and Fresno feels pretty barren.

When we got the Coronet 25 years ago, it had sat for 2 years in my grandfathers garage. Put a battery and general tune-up, belt hoses and drove it from PA to CA. Had to get a few freeze plugs replaced in Fenton Missouri and a voltage regulator along the way, but it made it. Had a fun time

Present day, the car has been sitting in the garage for 12 years due to my mobility issues. Car starts but isn't currently registered and it needs some attention. Unfortunately, I would not be comfortable driving it cross-country right now.

Need to Install A/C, but she is good to go.

This one, I want to, but still sorting bugs. Drove her from L.A. to S.F. at 16, 40 yrs ago.. Blew my whole 100 paycheck on that trip.

My home town, what a small world!!
It was kind of funny that the car started overheating as we passed by the assembly plant that I believe the car was built. It was like it wanted to come home. Found the next exit, a motel and called a shop the next morning. Wish I could remember the name of the shop. They worked passed their lunch to get us back on the road. Even replaced a few other plugs since they were in there.

A lot of us have no patience for people these days, except for people who are from out of state. Wrong turn, slow driving, blinker on and not turning or slowing down at each street not knowing which is the right one. I always let drivers over if they seem lost especially if they are from out of state. Paying it forward, because that could be me someday. Glad it all worked out!! Missouri, the show me state !!!

Im always up for a road trip.
My gas card though....would be in full melt down mode by the time i got back.

Lets roll.

I've read this a few times but still wonder....
What constitutes bad mileage? 5 mpg? 7 mpg?

A fairly stock car with 3.23 gears should easily crack 12 mpg at moderate freeway speeds.

My Charger gets 14 to 15 mpg on the highway, I drive it all over, HELL Yeah I think it could make a cross country trip, so far with fuel problems has run 11.04@123 4100lbs

My 1969 Coronet 440 with 383 3.23 gear will get 12-13 mpg babying it at highway speed and can go around 200 miles between fill ups and I have been pushing up the distance from home each time and am now comfortable to go long distance but not sure yet about cross country but am starting to think it could if I needed. I bought it in February this year. My gas card might melt though.

mild build Street hemi, approx 11.5 comp, 2800 stall conv. 3.54 dana .
If I stay out of the front carb. I can average maybe 10ish

Keep in mind Ive never really sat down and done the match to truly ck it.
But I think Im close

We build these cars and the need for speed has an admission price. My coronet is the only car I have ever owned that gets any mileage at all. I remember asking the boat dealer how many miles to the gallon the boat was going to get, he looked at me and said "really".. like I was stupid.

My Challenger is about the same.... Actually at one point I drove home from the Spring Fling with the cruise on the whole time & absolutely didn't let my foot touch the throttle at any time accept accelerating from a dead stop... I was able to get 15.2 MPG... But I was bored to tears... I'd rather accept the 12 or even 10 and enjoy the drive....

My 440 GTX gets about 28 on the hwy. Maybe 20 in the city. (OMG. Someone call authorities. I'm delirious!) Actually about 1/2 that. But that does include a couple sound effects pushes?
