Modern Bullitt build

Keepat, this thread is so helpful, thank you so much for coming here and posting your progress and howto's. Nearly everything you've done is exactly what I want to do to my Charger, I even have many of the parts already, such as the rear suspension and all the stiffining pieces....

Couple questions if you dont mind, I love the stance pic you posted early on, its spot on how I want mine, Ive heard of several Chargers needing their tunnel raised to get that low, when you set your stance did you take that into account?

Also, did you have to modify the rear suspension to allow for the LCA to move inward from the stock location? I have a similar suspension kit but its from ridetech, I have the minitub kit and the spring relocation kit, but Im worried that with moving the front spring mount and moving the perch in that it might bind the suspension up because its designed for the stock location.

Thank you in advance and thank you again for your great thread.

Very cool! One of the best things about car forums is the sharing of ideas and I look forward to seeing your build.

As for the trans tunnel I did raised the front 2/3 of the tunnel (for the 6 speed) and I'm using a ford 9" rear which has a lower pinion than the Dana, so the stance and tunnel clearance will work.

On the rear 4 link I ordered the RMS system with the lower control arms welded on the ford 9" rear for the inboard spring relocation kit. I'm sure Ridetech has a setup for both as I know on with RMS system there are two different rear lower mount locations.

Good luck with your project and feel free to let me know if I can help.
Thank you!
Pat

Just starting to get back to work on the charger as I've been very busy at work. I did put some time in on the steering wheel project and I'm happy with my progress so far. I found another steering wheel with good chrome on the spokes. And I decided to leave small 1" sections of the original plastic wood grain in place to help position the outer ring as well as locate the inner ring that I made smaller in diameter. My plan was to use a product called West System which is a two-part epoxy that has a variety of fillers to help color, thicken, and add strength. I started by making a small mold of the shape I was looking for and just move it around using plumbers putty too damn up the ends when I filled it with a epoxy. This worked OK but didn't give me the results I was looking for so I decided to make a full mold. After using it to make the top half of the steering wheel I modified it to clear the spokes and used it again for the bottom half of the steering wheel. This worked great and other than a few air pockets which I can fill-in along with the holes that I drilled so I could use a syringe to inject epoxy into the bottom of the mold I think it turned out great. I plan on making it a darker shade of brown and then comes the tedious part of replicating the wood grain.
Thanks
Pat

Here's the mold has been waxed and filled with epoxy

Then I cut the mold to clear the spokes and flip the steering wheel to redo the shape on the backside of the steering wheel.

That is a great job!!! I'm totally impressed with your work.

I just came across this build tread from another thread
that someone posted a link to your build...

I love 68 Chargers 1st off...
I can't wait to see the finished product & share a video...
Too bad the Mods couldn't post a duplicate of this in both the
Pro-touring/Resto-Mod & the General forum sections too...
Everyone should see this Modern rendition/New Bullitt build...

Freaken' phenomenal fab work & skills....
I especially love your plumbing solutions too...

Keep up the great work, you have my deepest respect....

We need a new word to describe this build & your skills
awesomebadfreakenassery !!

Pat,

Every time I think I can't possibly see anything new and amazing from you, you go and amaze me. I just hope I am lucky enough to see this car in person one day...

Outfrickingstanding.

In hindsight I probably should have posted this build in a different section. When I started post this build I don't believe there was a pro touring section on this forum? Thank you for checking it out and I hope I don't disappoint with the in results ;-)

Hawk, Thank you sir! I hope one day we run into each other at a Mopar event, possibly Carlisle? I do know I would like to follow your lead and drive this car across the country like you did with your roadrunner! (very inspiring)
Thank you
Pat

Always love checking in on this build Pat. The steering wheel project is another work of art.

If you ask a mod to move this thread to the Pro-touring forum they could do it for you

No disappointment here, at all...
I find it fascinating, very good quality...
I'm impressed...

I just wish everyone could see this build...

There maybe some purist detractors,
but they couldn't deny the quality & attention to detail...

This whole work on this thread is absolutely Outstanding!! What a car you are building! Awesome! This car will be like a hurricane on the road! Can't wait to see it done!

40+ hours and the steering wheel is just about finished. With a lot of sanding and adding more epoxy I got the oval shape I was looking for. Then I used a hook blade to add the wood grain affect. For color I used wood stain to darken the wood grain cuts and to get the color I was looking for.
Thanks
Pat

This is the difference in size and shape from the original steering wheel grip to the new larger oval.

Assuming it doesn't require a bunch of modding to use it, that top core support brace is nice. Seeing as you have some skills and a palpate I wonder if you would consider making and selling that top core support brace?

Sorry I'm not interested in making a lot of parts I just want to finish this car ;-) but I do think a company like US Car Tool should make this part is they make so many other components to strengthen Mopar's.
Thank you
