Monroe's 70 GTX

Nice work, I will be following your project for inspiration.

I bought my '70 GTX a couple years back and am still buying parts and trying to get enough money put together this year so I can put up my own building to work in.

My '70 Runner is more presentable, but also needs to be redone sometime in the future. About 90% of both cars are still original paint, and as you have found out this helps in not finding unwanted surprizes.

Sounds great. They both look pretty good and straight in the photos. It's quite a buzz when you finally start seriously restoring. Never thought I'd be able to do it so it was quite a thrill when I first saw it in the workshop. Keep at it with the parts collections, they all help in the end and spread the cost out nicely. Thanks for looking.

Monroe your 70 GTX project looks nice, very well done & clean work...

Finally got to check up on the progress of my car at the shop today. Here's some more pics to check out. Car on rotisserie next to it is '68 Charger. My new roof skin is in the box beside that. Should be going on soon. Starting to really move along now. Still awaiting right side trunk extension to finish back end. Have more soon.

Great post!

I'm really enjoying seeing the progress on this car.

Can't wait to see more pictures of the restoration, Monroe...

Woot!

They are doing really nice work.

Have they had any issues with the quality of the aftermarket parts?

If not, please let me know your recommended source/manufacturer.

The replacement panels were ordered through Classic Industries, I'm not sure who their supplier is. The boys said the pieces went together really well and they were surprised how straight everything was when they were checking gaps all round. Normally they make lots of adjustments after hanging panels on restorations but only had to make minor ones here.
They did alter the deck filler panel by a couple of mils to get a consistent gap and seal around the rear window and molding, but they said that the original gaps there probably wouldn't have been as close as they are now. :VB toast:

Very inspiring, thanks.

You are going to have a really sweet car when it's done.

Have a good weekend.

Even a new roof? That's a great job, I'm amazed! This will be the newest GTX out there with all the new steel!

I think somebody went at it with a bloody big hammer in the past. :violent1: It was bogged up in a couple of places, and the drivers side windscreen frame at the top was pushed down about a qtr inch. I couldn't tell when I got it because the windscreen was in it and it didn't look obvious. I think it was glued in with about 2 inches of that sticky black **** so it wouldn't fall out. Body shop saw it straight away and fixed it with a porta powa. I don't think I'll get the chance to ever do this again so best to do it right the first time. Besides, when this car is finished I know the body's gonna last longer than I will. :eek:lder OS:

Been busy at work but finally got down to see the progress on my car. Right rear trunk floor extension finally came in and they finished off the trunk beautifully. In the past a new floor had been put in but it was pretty rough. Was welded over old metal. My blokes did a great job removing it and cleaning it up and butting the edges properly to give a nice snug fit and finish. Roof and drip rails all fitted now and has been epoxy primed (I thinks that's what it's called).
They're doing a bit of filling and blocking and preparing for final blocking in a couple of weeks. Paint not long after. I've just about finished the front suspension with all new bushes and rubbers, tie rods, ball joints and new rotors. Getting pretty toey now and looking forward to bolting everything back in. Sorry for the lack of updates, hopefully have some cool paint pics very soon. :VB toast:

Going to the shop tomorrow to talk paint. Everythings ready for the main paint job, so we're going to sit down and talk about what colour goes where. I'm taking the front end back to the shop at the same time. I replaced all the tie rod ends, ball joints, bushes, discs, bearings and had the steering box reconditioned. Good to get it all back together again. Colour is gonna be FF4 Lime Green Metallic, and EF8 Ivy Green Metallic interior, which is what it was originally. Hope to have some paint photos up here soon. Cheers for now. Glenn
