My 1967 Belvedere Convertible Plans and Restoration (aka - Mad Scientist Build)

Clutch Pedal / Brake Pedal - might be resolved . . .

yeah that is a pretty long bolt you need there. I had the over center spring left over and some of that linkage but I think I sold it at a swap meet. I put a hydraulic setup in for my clutch and didn't need those parts.

Does your new clutch setup need the Z-bar, linkage rods etc? or is it a hydraulic setup with a master and slave cylinder? That would make a big difference in the volume of parts you will need to make it all work.

You may want to inventory what you have related to the clutch assembly from them and see what's left. If you need the Z-bar you may need to add the bracket on the frame rail it bolts to.

Hey KB - you're dead on again ! ! Thanks ! !

Yes, I'm planning on using a hydraulic clutch - and already have it ! ! Better yet - called up the company and explained to them what's going on, and they opened up a pedal set at the shop and said it measures 1/2" OD to receive the pin/bolt. The pedals that I have are NOT 1/2" OD - so they're going to swap out the wrong set for the proper set - and they're going to check if the pin/bolt is suppose to be included in the package.

So . . . maybe I've got this figured out ! !

Here's the hydraulic clutch setup I've got:

sm_hydraulicbrakekit.jpg

And I even upgraded to the billet reservoir - why not ? ! ?

sm_billetres.jpg

Expecting a call back from the company confirming the 1/2" pin/bolt . . . and then we'll swap out the pedals . . . and onto the next challenge ! ! !

Wrong part . . . who'd of thunk ? ? ?

Last night of the contest - enter your guess for the weight of undercoating removed

Tonight is the last day of the contest to guess the weight of the undercoating that has been removed from my Belvedere in the process of cleaning up the undercarriage of the car. You'll have to go back and review the thread and see how much has been removed thus far.

And the prize
- this authentically reproduced copy of an original weathered Mopar sign. . . ( you like that ? )
sign size - 12.5" X 16"

sm_prize.jpg

To the person that get's the closest to the actual weight ( over or under ).
Weigh in will be Friday - 12/06/13 - after I get off work ( about 6:00 PM )

GET YOUR GUESSES IN - ONE GUESS PER PERSON PLEASE.

Besides - this is probably cheaper then shipping all the undercoating to the winner ! !

Current guesses -
roadrunnerman - 67 lb
tallhair - 65 lb
KB67Mopar - 57 ib 10 oz
747Mopar - 53 lb

hunt2elk - 38.5 lb

Very nice looking setup "hope it all works out without any problems".

Time for the weigh in . . .

The time has come, to weigh in the total amount of undercoating that was removed from the Belvedere.

The guesses are as follows:

roadrunnerman - 67 lb
tallhair - 65 lb
KB67Mopar - 57 ib 10 oz
747Mopar - 53 lb
usaroadrunner - 42.1970 - ( I don't think my scale is that accurate ! )
benji - 42 lb
hunt2elk - 38.5 lb
cudachick1968 - 23.7 lb
ct71rr - 20 lb

And guess who does not own a scale . . . you guessed it . . .

So . . . off to the my dog's Veterinary Hospital to ask if I could borrow their scale - they obliged !

And here's what we've got . . . 4 bags, plus the box which was 2 more smaller bags of undercoating.
Here they are loaded on the scale . . .

sm_undercoatingbags.jpg

And the final weight of the undercoating is . . . ( isn't that a surprise ? ? ? )

sm_undercoatingweight.jpg

And the winner is . . .

roadrunnerman - 67 lb

Please PM me your address so I can get your sign sent out to you.

Thanks to everyone that participated ! ! !

congrats rrman hang it up proudly....MOPAR.... the competition swears at it....the competitor swears by it.....MOPAR!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is awesome man and congrats USA RR. You cut your 1/4 time by a tenth if that old adage is true and I've heard from some seasoned vets here it is.

I've heard before undercoating can easily account for 100 lbs and you just proved it. I was banking on that being a exaggeration but it isn't obviously!

Hey Tallhair . . . it's actually more, because you need to remember that almost my entire floor was cut out and replaced with new metal. The stuff that I knew I was going to cut out I did not bother with scraping off the undercoating. So if that was added back into the weight, it would easily exceed the 100 pounds mark.

Even though I scraped it all off - I did not expect that number when I placed them all on the scale to weigh them.

Oh, by the time I add all the dynamat back . . . I know it'll exceed the amount of undercoating removed ! ! !

Dynomat is not that heavy is it? If it is I'm definitively not using it as I don't mind the sound of an old car w/o carpet pads, minimal undercoating, barely muffled exhaust etc. I've been thinking of using something though to keep the heat out of the interior once I patch up the holes in the drivers floor pan on the RR and put the lower and upper shifter boots back in. The last time I was driving the ole RR I didn't have any hair on my right outside calf cause it all burned off. My jeans would get really hot and you don't want to be wearing something that's burning the hair off your legs LOL

conv67bdere Thanks a lot man, I will hang it proudly next to my new Plymouth sign that I got at hobby lobby. Don't know if you noticed or not, but my guess was the same year of your car. Couldn't go wrong with that. LOL.

Sorry cudachick1968, didn't mean to win it out from under ya. If I was going to lose this contest to somebody, I would be happy to lose to you.

"Auh nuts" what do I put in that spot I cleared "maybe you can make me a poster of your car when it's done, that would be sweet"? Oh well at least it went to a good home "congrats RR". Thanks for the fun competition 67

Thanks 747Mopar . . . That was pretty cool and I hope everyone had fun ! ! !

NOW . . . I've got to try and figure out how to do this again . . . what can the next contest be ? ? ?

Thanks to everyone that participated !

I did a little research on Dynamat and it's 15 lbs for 36 sq ft, so 30 lbs for 72 sq ft which is close to what you'll need for the floor, add another pg to have plenty for the doors, trunk divider and some spare for whatever and you've got 108 sq ft and 45 lbs. If you are adding lizard skin and other spray on stuff then it'll be getting up around 100 lbs I guess. Moparmark said he put 200 lbs of Dnyamat in a cuda though but he used A LOT.

Dynamat . . . and Dynaliner . . . and alternatives . . .

Lowes Home Improvement - here's some things that I've found that could help you get your jobs done ! !

Might need to do a price compare on this. In their window's section, the have a 3" wide 50' roll of window tape.

The bad news - it's only 3" wide.
The good news - it's only 3" wide and might make it easier to conform to the floor contours.

Here's the tape from the window section:
http://www.lowes.com/ProductDisplay...gId=10051&cmRelshp=req&rel=nofollow&cId=PDIO1

Guess what - the stuff looks exactly like Dynamat only it doesn't have the label ( nor the price ? ). In addition - in the duct work department, they have aluminum tape ( this stuff will cut you BAD ) that you can use to seal up the metal duct seams in your house. Make sure it's the tape that looks like metal - not the typical cloth/rubber looking duct tape stuff that people use to "fix" everything . . . .

Here's what the foil tape looks like:
http://www.lowes.com/pd_350444-98-3...currentURL=?Ntt=duct+tape+aluminum&facetInfo=

Use this tape to tape up the joints between the two rows of window tape, to provide a continuous metal barrier inside the car.

With the two of these products - it's pretty much the same as Dynamat and should provide heat and sound insulation.

Here's an example of the Dynaliner:
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-sDzLQF...866805163&awdv=c&awkw=dynaliner&awmt=p&awnw=g

Here's another product that can be used similar to this:
http://www.lowes.com/pd_409818-5629...=1&currentURL=?Ntt=radiant+barrier&facetInfo=

I've used this stuff in the attic of my house to keep the heat of the summer out of the attic . . . IT WORKS FANTASTIC ! ! !

Another idea a friend did ( and I'll do it too when I get there ) is to put a strip of the Dynamat inside the door but on the external panel - he placed two strips, he did not do the entire inside, one 1/3 up the door, and one 2/3 up the door. If absorbs the rattle of the door and makes the door sound more solid when you shut it. And inside the car, it absorbs some of the road noise and quiets the interior of the car.

Just a couple of ideas of alternatives.
