SORRY - LONG story . . . ( but true )
This has been a story that has developed over several months, and it had to do with an order from American Powertrain for part for my Belvedere - you'll remember that I posted some pictures of delivered parts a few posts back - well the parts were ordered and paid for on 7/29/2013. The parts were to all be shipped together and I'd have them in a week or two.
- two weeks later I called when no parts arrived - was told they're waiting to modify the tail stock on the transmission - okay, where is the trans ? ?
- ruh roh - the Tremec is in my garage, so I need to ship it to them - so it gets shipped
- they receive my transmission, say it'll take a week to modify it all the parts would be shipped together as one shipment
- two weeks go by no delivery - I call, the machinist has a family member fighting cancer and he's out a bunch - that is very much understood !
- two weeks turns into two months ( I'm not complaining, it's not holding up my progress ) and Jay has been very helpful
- tail stock gets completed and parts get boxed up, and shipped - YAY ! ! !
- week later, the day the package is suppose to show up - I take 1/2 vacation to meet UPS at my door - no delivery
- I call, turns out the tech found (2) trans pins, with my name on them on the bench - UPS shipment was recalled - ok, let's fix it properly
- transmission is re-built with missing parts, boxed up and shipped
- the day the package is suppose to show up - I take 1/2 vacation to meet UPS at my door - no delivery
- I call, turns out UPS destroyed the box, transmission fell out, and it gets returned to sender to re-package - I've seen the UPS stories !
- transmission is re-re-packaged and shipped - delivery should be in 2 days from Tennessee
- take 1/2 day off - packages show up ( 3 months after payment ) - I go through them, only half of the order is present . . . humm, not good.
- I call, something got crossed up - they ship the missing parts - they arrive in 2 days - guess what, parts still missing.
- was told they sold a pedal assembly, and was sent a picture of it - only got (2) pedals and a bracket.
- trying to figure out what happened with the pedal assembly that they offer - they don't offer it . . . ok, so I get a credit.
- pedals do not have a 1/2" ID to accept the pin/rod that supports/pivots the pedals - they do at the shop. FUBAR - wrong pedals !
- plans to re-send me the proper set of pedals with ( hopefully ) the pin/rod also included that was missing in the first shipment.
- my salseman ( Jay ) has been a great help, as we worked through all these mishaps . . . BTW we're at 4+ months now.
I told Jay that's it's taken SO LONG that I think he owes me a Wilwood Master Cylinder ! ! He agrees - waiting to see if it happens ! !
Yes, this is a true story, and I am NOT mad at American Powertrain - sometimes things happen, and this appears to be one of them ( I'm still wondering why they all have to happen at the same time and to me to boot ! ) Jay has been a great service and has credited me with shipping fees, he matched every price I found online, and he's been working with me to get this resolved - he even told me if you do another project, order the parts from him and he'll promise to get them to me in under 4 months next time - YES, he's quite the smart alec . . . guess that's why we get along so well.
Now, my comment to Jay, when I call him is will I have all my parts before next year ? ? ? He says he hopes so.
Additional notes:
By the way - there is a shifter that I bought that they're working on fixing a leaky gasket - before they'll ship it to me.
AND - I'll have to get my car back together and get them a drive shaft measurement before they'll custom build it.
So, I'll still have some outstanding business deals to finish up with them - and I'm sure they'll honor the invoice.
So now, I'm waiting on the correct pedals - and my order will be completed.
and that's . . . "the rest of the story " . . . and Yes, I will order parts from them again.
