My 1967 Belvedere Convertible Plans and Restoration (aka - Mad Scientist Build)

Someone had a bad day . . .

Walking my dog down the street yesterday and I saw this . . .

sm_badday01.jpg

Somebody sis not have a good day . . . the fence post is sheared off and out in the pasture, and the tree was hit too . . .

RUH ROH Shaggy . . . .

thin tire pattern, maybe a rice burner looking for the rice field! I do pray it was as simple as that!

Hey Ron, I think you actually figured it out . . . see the chicken coops in the distance ? ? ?

Hold on now . . .

Oh boy, oh man..... Things happen and sometimes it's for the best.... of the best! rotfl :)

Part 3 of them process, 1 - cut it out, 2 - level it out, 3 - weld it back in . . .

So I get the "crazy" idea that the lack of good, quality quarter panels for '67's means I have to do something creative . . . or stupid . . . so I go and cut the bad section of the quarter panel out of the car, and work the metal to try and make it more respectable, all to come down to this . . .

Weld it back into the car and hope that the end result will be better than the original "garbage" that the PO left me with . . .

Well . . . the verdict is not out yet . . . but so far so good . . . this "might" actually work ? ! ? ! ? ! ?

It will, Im attempting to repair some work someone did to mine, tried to do?,,, It can get tedious!! :)

I think that looks way better! Now just take your time on the welds and jump around a lot...if you can't finish a beer or two during the welding process on that panel you went too fast!

I'll say it again....I am impressed.

My Memorial Day . . . in remembrance . . .

I did not take the day off in the shop, I worked on the panel, but today is my Memorial Day . . . 2 years ago today is the day that I lost my pop . . . not a day goes by that I don't think about him and I miss him . . . he really loved KFC chicken, so all of the kids in the family planned a meal today at KFC in honor of him. We all live in different states, and in different time zones, but the whole purpose was to do it in his honor and let him smile down on us as we remember him. Miss you Pop . . .

Still working on the panel and trying to make sure that I take my time and try to keep it as true as possible so as to ease my plastic filling process . . . I think that I will be able to reduce the body plastic from the 1/2 inch they had on the car down to about 1/8 inch - that's my goal . . .

WOW KB67 . . . after seeing the work that you did on your car . . . I take that as quite the compliment ! ! ! Thanks ! ! ! You got big shoes to fill KB . . . ( smile )

you give me way too much credit....you're doing things in much the same manner as me except taking it further and to a new level. Keep it up and most of us will be forced to honor you as king kahn.

Well . . . I finally went and did it . . .

Ordered the Auburn unit from Summit this morning . . . it is time to get the differential back together, order my axles, and get it back in the car . . .

Hopefully it will be here by Friday . . . whoooohoooo ! ! ! !

very nice khan, now you got it all back to metal. keep it up, and enjoy that kfc dinner khan. usarr

Your headed for a great weekend with the beast there Khan, Things are looking smooth and right and i hope it all turns out as cool as it sounds there MR... KHAN.. Sir! I humble myself... :notworthy: A big thumbs up buddy!!! :)

Can't believe I forgot this . . .

First question that I have is what gear do I have in my car . . . here is a pic of the number stamped on the gear. . .

sm_gearnumbers.jpg

Is this a 267 gear or a 291 ? ? ? ( the numbers sound really low . . . highway gears . . . )

When I bought the car I was given this spare quarter panel . . . it is sitting outside my shop . . .

sm_drquaterpnlspare.jpg

I might need to check it out for rust as I'm not sure I like the way the panel welded in . . .

Are you finished with your vert yet? Looks good so far. Have you decided what you are going to do about your front brakes yet? If you are going with disc, what are you planning to do with the drums? I could use a half decent 14" set.

Got my rear handed to me in a box . . . by a girl no less . . . ( sigh ) . . .

SO . . . I get home from work today and I get my rear end handed to me in a box . . .

LITERALLY . . .

my daughter handed me a box from Summit that contained my new Auburn Limited Slip read end for the Belvedere . . . ( snicker )

sm_newlimitslip.jpg

And you thought this was going to be bad . . . this is a GOOD thing . . .

My drums are sitting on a shelf and are available if you are interested . . . I will be installing a RMS Alter-K-tion front end on the Belvedere . . . Feel free to PM me.

Merry Christmas Kahn! :) Sounds like some big inspiration to have during all this build...
