My 1967 Belvedere Convertible Plans and Restoration (aka - Mad Scientist Build)

Yes KB67 . . . I will HAVE to start on the quarter panels SOON ! ! !

What....I didn't say nothing...slacker hahaha

It's ok to take a break now and then...keeps you from getting burnt out on the project. So your daughters are giving you a rest break...enjoy it while it lasts.

Car show - interesting find . . .

Car show this weekend at the local speedway and look what I stumbled on . . . have not seen many '67 Belvedere Convertibles . . . ever . . .

This was a cool find in my eyes . . . still needed work in the same areas as my car . . .

Back in the shop . . . finished up the drain on the driver side . . .

My daughter is heading back to Phoenix AZ, to get packed up, and move back home . . . so sorry that the bf did not work out, but yet I am looking forward to getting my daughter back home ( maybe . . . )

Got out to the shop tonight and was able to finish up the convertible top drain into the wheel well . . .

Next project . . . cut into the quarter panel, find out just how bad the rocker on the driver side really is, and get it repaired . . .

"ROCK-ON" lol like the car too. l8r. postcar.

Welcome aboard a68postcar . . . glad to have you along for the ride . . .

Im finding out that i don't like Phoenix AZ lol, My lady doctor and friend just quit i found out the last i seen her shes moving out there, been with her so long my wife started going in to the examine room with me lol, it was a touching good bye we hated, she said she would miss me but im not sure more then ill miss her, she picked me up and helped me so much its incredible... oh how i hate breaking in a new one.. she's the one that a few years back i told her when i went to renew my drivers license that i marked organ doner and she just cracked up and said "good one Ron!" she thought i was kidding lol, oh well, but back to the car, you have my good luck with the next installment of the beast Mr. Khan.... :) You sure are way ahead of my work, especially with winter coming and all that stuff im sure your aware of is to do, i hope this year treats you kind in your shop, i know sometimes that snow and cold likes to hold things up when your ready to rock n roll on it, if i can put it that way!

Ran out of excuses . . . time to dig into the quarters . . .

Alright kb67 . . . it is TIME to dig into the quarters and see what kind of trouble I can get into . . .

Here is the progress . . . uh, there is a HOLE in my quarter panel . . .

Mark out my lines for cutting and cut . . .

sm_drqrtr2.jpg

and the back half . . .

sm_drqrtr1.jpg

Then use the step drill to drill out the spot welds on the pinch weld under the car . . .

sm_drqrtr3.jpg

Not sure if this shows up well, but there was a huge pile of crud in the quarter panel . . .

sm_drqrtr4.jpg

If that picture does not show you the amount . . . then this one should help out . . . all of this stuff came from inside the quarter panel . . . Ewwww . . .

sm_drqrtr5.jpg

The opening and the rocker after a little bit of wire brushing and clean up . . . not too bad . . .

sm_drqrtr6.jpg

Here's the bad spot on the bottom . . . looks like it will need a little bit of work to repair the hole . . .

sm_drqrtr7.jpg

No turning back now . . . now I have to figure out HOW i can fix the hole I cut in my car and make it look respectable . . .

20 points to the man card. ...looks like its decent but still some work to do. I'd recommend looking for quarter patches from a donor or finding another vendor that makes a good panel. I know my metal skills weren't up to that level to make those patches.

If I can be of any help let me know but sadly I'm too damn far away to come help in person! I wish I could lend a hand....it'd be a good time

Way to go! Just getting started is half the battle now you have to do it haha.

no problem...look at all the work an welding you did under the car. we all know you can do it. weld on khan, gotta get it on the road...lol

Look what I found . . .

While I was working on the car tonight I noticed a little spot on the top of the car near the trunk and thought I should dig into it a bit . . .

This is what I found . . .

sm_bondogalore.jpg

Wondering how much of this quarter is bondo . . . they sure have a lot of it on this car . . .. looks like it needs to get fully blasted . . .

Got a majority of the bondo off . . . now I know what is underneath the "mess" . . .

Since the car had other spots where they put bondo over open holes, I had to remove the bondo here to find out what I had to work with and see what kind of mess I have to deal with . . . and they did not surprise me . . . more holes that were not welded and put bondo over, finished it off, and painted it . . .

Arrrrgh ! ! ! ! At least I can fix it the right way now - but WHY be so dishonest ? ? ? Arrrrgh ! ! ! ! The bondo was almost 1/2" thick in some places . . .

Here's the results of what I have to deal with . . . do not think that they really show the "mess" too well . . .

sm_drqrtr8.jpg

bit of a dent up top here too, and two small rust holes that will need some attention that were bondo spread over them to hide them . . . they would have shown up later !

sm_drqrtr9.jpg

Now to figure out how to get this cleaned up and corrected . . . gotta love it, time to learn more ! ! !

Hammer and dolly time!!!!!!!!!!!!! Look on the bright side..................the rust don't look to bad but those wrinkles won't be fun to get out. Good luck

maybe someone can confirm this when you use a hammer an dolly sometimes you stretch the metal. cant you heat up the metal an quench it to shrink it back a little or am i wrong. hope you can bang back in shape khan.

Wow looks like it got hit there once...amazing what body guys can hide with filler...

Some years ago that wasn't out of the norm sadly. But hey at least you found it while you already had work to do over there.

X 2 It is although discouraging, good to find it now i have to agree Khan, That wont hold you up long i would bet, not you man! :)

Agreed 747Mopar . . . not very familiar with the process so it is time to learn something new. might need to resort to cutting it out and trying to fabricate patches . . . time will tell . . .

From me research USARR - you are right if you hit the metal "on dolly" while working it . . . "off dolly" might be a little less stretching, but I'll find out . . . . I have seen people shrink the metal but I am not very familiar with that process either . . . think this could be a BIG learning experience ! ! ! ( smile )

That is what I thought after I saw it . . . and it might also explain the cause for my axle being bent on this side ( 747Mopar helped my get it straightened out when we narrowed it )

Thanks Ron . . . I will try not to let it slow me down, but I wish I had found this when I had the entire wheel well cut out = it would have been MUCH easier ! ! ! Oh well . . . onward ! !

House landscaping project . . . minor detour to get house stuff done . . .

Hope to be getting some concrete down on the other half of my carport, and in order for that to happen I have got to get some things done on the paver walkway and the soon to be poured concrete walkway by the carport . . . all of the black edge pavers have been cut and mortared in place . . . and the pavers have been somewhat set in place but will need to be pulled back up and leveled out better . . .

Here is what the pavers are looking like, and the retaining wall at the edges that will be going in too . . .

sm_walkway01.jpg

These concrete blocks are just set in place to give an idea of the final results that have been planned . . .

sm_walkway02.jpg

Now to get to the retaining wall . . . and get it finished so that the area is ready for concrete . . .

Thats some work there Khan, Im working to get some things ready and done for winter and lucked out with a friend who just has enough vinyl siding for my car port/slash slash garage and hes putting it on for me, its making it look smaller then it is and that's bad bud being its 18-20 lol, but i like the look for sure, good luck getting your job done there and im sure it will turn out great, ill try to get a picture of my stuff, almost match's the roof color!! :) I hope your having all this fantastic weather we are, and i hope it lasts!!!

Pretty slick looking Mason work Kahn! Good luck with wrapping it up.

Impressive amount of Bondo! That area was more of a sculpture than an actual car body.
