Buttoned it a bit more today in the garage as it was raining out.

Had to superglue one of the grill mounts back into place as it snapped sometime in the past. The only thing that kept it from coming out was the washer.

Tackled cleaning up & repainting my horns today as they were painted very sloppy at some point. Also painted my hood latch.

After I was all done went for a drive & took a nice picture of my car & an old Curtis hanger at a local airport.

Hey guys. As many of you know I've been trying to find more history on my car & I've been pretty busy.

I reached out to the City of Livonia, where I bought my car and where the PO bought it as well. They don't keep any records, tax, DMV...etc...

I reached out to the Archives of Michigan/Michigan History Center, then the Detroit Historical Society. No dice there.

I spoke to the Sec. Of State's office (they run the DMV) and they told me they only have records going back to 2006, anything older than that is destroyed. So I said what the heck & filled out some forms to do a title search and hit some pay dirt.

I was able to get back 2 owners ago and the forms contained his full name & address. I tried using Yellow Pages + other online websites but all of them you have to pay for the info. I decided to call the operator & gave them the info I had & in no time I had his number.

Bill and I spoke for a 1/2 hour tonight and he told me the below info. If anyone has any recollections of seeing my car in Livonia, I'd love to know more from you.

1. Bill was either the 2nd or 3rd owner. He bought the car in 1984 in Livonia for about $1,225-$1,250.

2. The car was original miles, I got it with 78,***.

3. The guy he bought it from was a toolmaker, named Jim who worked at one of the Dodge plants. Apparently his son took the car out & ripped out the exhaust system going over some RR tracks. The exhaust system was redone but the pipes went under the rear axle not over it, so he took it to a place called Dave's Exhaust over on Michigan Ave to be redone correctly.

4. Bill had a guy/place add the pinstripes. Name is Hatton, supposed to be someone well known.

5. The car was raced at someplace called Telegraph.

telegraph rd., street racing back in the day I never made it there, but i'm sure there's guys here that were there back then. maybe someone will chime in.

Did some more research and looks like it was Paul Hatton the PO said did the pinstripes.

Raced every car I had in the 70's on Telegraph Rd, it was the Mecca for street racing back in the day. Got a lot of tickets for what was called "Looping", thats cruising a fast food place, but not stoping to patronize the business (police in Dearborn Heights thought that would stop us)
Hatton was the premier freehand pinstriper in the area, his place was on Ford Rd, he pinstriped 2 snowmobiles an a helmet for me in 1978
Man those times were the best of times

Well the heat finally broke today into the 80's down from 101.3 yesterday, so decided to take out the tail lights & clean them up.

Also they were crooked and low and behold the one marked "R" was on the drivers side & the one marked "L" was on the passengers side, see the R & L marked on the inside brackets. Also noticed when I took them apart the foam padding was still there on the nuts.

There are a lot of grooves and corners to clean on those tail lights.
Keep up the good work.

Old history just gets ya going! Cars, firearms, etc. Love it!

Hey all, been a while since I've done any real work. Saw this on ebay & liked it much better than the cheap plastic toppers or the really expensive repro battery, so I opted for this @ $23.95.

Got all brand new heater & radiator hoses on order as well.

Was wonder why you had a Michigan plate on front in post #141? Then saw the paper work in a later post then the rear plate. I still run my old vainty plate in the front.

Hey Fran. Good to see you! Hope all is well with you and tour family. Can't believe up north is going to get 3-4" tonight/tomorrow.

I'm pretty sure that plate has been with the car all it's life but can't prove it unfortunately. I've tried but so much time has gone by & governments got rid of lots of paperwork we could have used to better document our cars.

My car was bought at Haynes Motors in Bridgeport Ct.. In 67 or 68 owner moved to California and moved back around 72. Sold it to a fried in Sept 74 and I bought it in June of 78. I'm lucky, in 2015 went to talk to Original owner and he had all the paper from new. Paid him $300 for it, I told I'd the paper work. Offered the money to give a reason to part with it. Think he sold it $950 in 73.
Getting paper work that changed hands 4 or 5 times near impossible.

Here's the final result. Nice day to do a small project as it's raining outside today.
