My 69 Coronet project

I have driven two cars to the Muffler shop with open exhaust.. I look forward to doing it again!!

That is exciting to see your car move under it's own power again. Your moving right along and it is looking great!

Great progress. I also like the idea of the mobile exhaust; actually, the trailer itself is super cool. Imagine something like that for the drag racers. Bring your car on a trailer that is also a mobile work station!

I remember when I got glass installed in my car - it felt like a huge step forward. You are in the home stretch now!!!

I'm feeling it. Getting the front end aligned this weekend, last big hurdle to get it street-worthy.

Is it still running with the carburetor or have you now put the FI on it?

After the alignment I drove the car around the neighborhood. It still has the carb; I'm planning on swapping it out this week. Still a million tiny issues: tranny doesn't shift crisply; brakes are weak; half the gauges don't seem to work. Need to have an A/C shop finish the engine compartment plumbing. And the interior trim doesn't want to go back in the way it came out. Other than that, cars' done!

HaHa - I feel you pain. Trust me, it's a royal pain in the arse to get these cars truly sorted. Yeah, I drove mine across country, but I am STILL working on mine. I am still not happy with the fit of my side windows, so I need to work on those. I also have a leak in my windshield (I think) that needs to be taken care of. I have slowly addressed most of the other items, but it takes time.

Either way, I am sure you had a blast just taking it around the block! Keep up the good fight, you're almost to the point where you will start getting some major paybacks from all this work!

I just sent my registration in for the June4th show in Lincoln, sure hope to see you AND THE CAR there;-)

You too?? If there's one thing I hate about these cars it's that lousy windshield seal setup. Mine only leaks in a downpour which I don't ever go looking for. Love to fix it but the thought of tweaking the trim while removing it makes me hesitate plus that's the 3rd attempt already by the glass guy to fix it.

If you have factory service manual it shows how to test and adjust the line pressure on the 727s, not to hard to do. Hopefully it's just in the linkage, seams to me it took awhile to get the tranny oil circulated in mine constantly topping it off not to mention the 727s like to bleed off the torque converter oil. Try this, if it's the torque converter draining off just let it run for a few minutes before moving and see if it helps. Good luck

I had the windshield guy add "goop" to seal it well. That STILL didn't work. Luckily, we only had rain twice on our drive across country. One of them was the San Francisco area where it hadn't rained in 3 months! Go figure!!!

So yeah, I have to fix that. I want my car to be a "no excuses" car. Everything needs to work and work well. Maybe I'll get there some day.....................

I've been working on the car every night this week for the Lincoln show. I want to be there even if I have to push it, lol. It's only about 2 miles from my house.

Good idea Devin. I have the FSM, going to check it out. Since my last post I relocated the 1/0 gauge cable down by the firewall because it was impinging on the shift linkage. In the middle of the EFI swap so I'll have to check my results in a couple of days.

It's a work in progress for sure. Short term goal - make it around the block more than once. :steering:

I'm gonna back up a bit; several pics from a couple of months ago that I wasn't able to load.
I got the RetroSound Redondo thumb wheel radio. The OEM radio came with the 8 track option and neither worked when I bought the car. There's only a couple of repair shops that will upgrade the 8 track to new technology digital FM, aux inputs, etc. Even after I tell them not to restore the 8 track; and it's expensive ($500+). Ouch.
So I went with the Redondo off of Classic Industries with the 15% discount.

They fail to mention "some assembly required" LOL

Not a big deal. The thumb wheel and present buttons seem a little flimsy, but the unit was easy to wire up. Good instructions. The technology is awesome - digital FM, USB port, bluetooth. I was expecting a little more robust unit.

The dash went in with minor effort. I had written extensive notes along with pics during disassembly; they proved to be lifesavers 2 years later. Trust me - all the things that you swear you'll remember when reinstalling - you will have forgotten.

BTW, the Classic Air Perfect Fit A/C system - lived up to its name once again when hooking up the ducting.

Surprisingly, most everything lit up the first turn of the key.

Started piecing together the interior. The roof trim is giving me fits so I changed direction and started on the floor and worked my way back up. The Grant steering wheel is wrapped in suede. They have several colors to choose from; the suede along with the orange stripe and stitching match the seats; it couldn't have matched better if I had planned it.
In the foreground you can see the XV Engineering retractable front seat belts. They bolted up like OEM. The shoulder harness drops down several inches; I'm 6'2" and they fit me nice. Might be a little high for women, but still more comfortable than the originals. And yeah, still have to bundle up the under dash wiring.
