My 69 Road Runner

Nothing like the smell of fresh paint. Doing the dance in the paint booth. LOL.
Yeah, along as it's not stuck in paint jail like so many times ends up happening. I'm lucky as he only has room for 2 cars at a time and when he says he is ready for your car, he gets on it right away. He figures it will be done by the middle of next month.

More progress. The whole body and removable parts are now in final high build primer. He will let it set for a bit before doing the final blocking.

It's going to be a VERY nice car when done for sure.

Looks like I may be getting the RR back home by Christmas. Stopped over at my buddies yesterday to check on progress. He got the trunk sprayed last week. The plan is to paint the car on Monday. We just need to figure out how to haul it now. So much salt on our roads that I am not using my open trailer. He has an enclosed one, but it has a non op Cuda inside at the moment. That and the fact I have my car on casters is going to make it very interesting loading, securing, and unloading in an enclosed unit.

Looking good! It’s the most nerve racking and exciting time when the color starts going on! Good luck I hope it turns out great! That darn paint is expensive wether it’s PPG or Xalta or whatever!

Yeah, paint and supplies have really gone crazy the last few years. PPG Deltron in B5 is around $1100 a gallon, and the clear and hardener that he uses is another $800/gallon.

About 12 miles.

They make vacuum seal vehicle storage bags that you could use. Not sure how expensive they are. I would try and get the enclosed trailer though. Depends on the mobility of the Cuda. You'll figure it out. :)

I would guess you don't want to wrap/seal it in any sort of plastic right after painting, eh?
I'd be nervous of some sort of interaction between fresh paint and the "bag".

I had a 451 put together for this car 10 years or so ago. Originally it had a Comp 282 solid cam, until #4 cam bearing spun and I lost oil to the top end. I replaced that with a Racer Brown hydraulic flat tappet and Harlan Sharp rockers. Since this motor was first put together, I have always struggled with detonation. I had it pretty much sorted out by dropping the timing to 31 and slowing the advance springs in the distributor. Since I am to this point on the car, and had a couple of oil leaks and about 10,000 miles on it, I decided to take it in for new gaskets and bearings. Had them measure the compression ratio and found it to be 10.3:1 with 440 Source 4.380 -4cc flat top pistons. This combo with a 750 Quick Fuel made 545 hp and 545 ft.lbs. While it was apart I wanted to drop the compression ratio a bit to help with the pinging issue. My thinking was by doing that, I could give it more timing and along with switching to a 850 carb, I shouldn't lose much power.
Went with 440 Source 4.382 -12cc dish pistons. So with that piston change I now have a measured ratio of 9.766:1. On the dyno it made 543 ft. lbs. and 529 hp. I am happy with that and the extra 1/2 point of compression will help with todays crappy gas. One thing I thought as very odd is that it made the most power at 31 degrees timing. We ran it everywhere from 29 to 37. So my theory of running it at 35 got thrown out the window. The guy running the dyno says they have been trying all their motors at lower timing and been finding some, like this one, that likes it lower.
New Flow Kooler water pump and Milodon high flow thermostat. Some guys on A bodies were talking up this new thermostat gasket, so decided to try it. My modified steering wheel puller to install the pilot bushing after having it in the freezer for a few hours. New Edelbrock fuel pump. Robb MC offset dowels. Center Force diaphragm clutch and McLeod flywheel back on the motor.

Yea then something gets screwed up and fixing **** just costs more.....ask me how I know haha! Atleast doing it yourself you save a ton, but man has this **** got out of hand cost wise for materials!

Honestly it’s very discouraging with the cost so dang high.. Nason used to be the old DuPont , I used a few times but wasn’t really pleased with the clear. Idk what to do it’s doubled in cost if not more! I used old Deltron in my teenage days and liked PPG then but switched to DuPont when the vendor did. It really hurts when you drop a lot on paint materials , including masking paper, tape, sand paper etc.. For an entire job.
Your work inspires us ! Keep it up!
