Big government almost is spinning the media as bad. But the government has also been so inconsistent with their own messages and actions. Where do they stand on vaccines, first dangers,now asking for them? What do they really think about the danger of the disease, first no worries, now shutting borders to first world countries? Why concern about the markets? Is the global economy super strong and ready to weather anything, or not? Leadership comes from the top with consistent messages. Panic ensues when the message is garbled. The media will pounce on a garbled message, but the leader is at the top. In the past this didn't happen. Maybe we should look at the leadership.

As for the run on TP, isn't there some countries that have total dependence on paper imports from China? Haven't done the research but I'm sure there is and they are the ones where the 'run' got started. Our news media picked that up and ran with it while failing to mention that the U.S. still has a pretty good paper industry going on within it's own borders. The last time I checked, only about 10% of the paper used in this country to make TP comes from China so the run on it here is plainly fabricated imo all due to our STOOOOOPID media aholes!

We have several paper plants in the region that produce TP and such; I've been in more than one.
Their production capacity is truly impressive. I'm not terribly worried about it.

I'd like to call attention to a couple things on that page:
a. The number of new reported cases graph - yes, the number is dropping rather quickly now.
Will be interesting to see how all that shakes out as the numbers of people getting tested increase
in the next several days.

b. "Cases among Persons Repatriated to the United States"
Going by that one, the country got a grip on "importing" the disease pretty quickly apparently?

The different messages that are coming out because things like this EVOLVE there for the message needs to be changed to stay on top of things like a virus. If something is being tried and it is not working or accurate then it needs to be adapted or changed. Therefore the process or message MUST be changed. Most Intelligent people know this... China would not allow ANYONE in for weeks which puts our Nation weeks behind as nothing was shared. I remember another virus that was not properly dealt with which left 60 million get infected with the virus, putting 274,000 in hospitals and 20,000 Americans died. We are FAAAAAAAAAR from those numbers like that, Well over 59plus million away as of today and only time will tell except with this virus LOTS of Precautions are being taken that is FOR SURE....

In case anyone is wondering, the virus referred to here in the H1N1 "swine flu" epidemic of 2009.
Yes, it wasn't properly handled by the administration, mostly out of fear of spreading widespread panic - which the media then mostly complied with when asked to do so - but it literally took several months for that administration to properly address the situation at the time and yes, those of us who can think outside of politics remember it clearly and well.

By way of comparison, the current situation with COVID-19 has been addressed rather quickly (again, refer to the CDC statistics and website I linked to in a previous comment above) but this time, the media was not told to keep things under their hats - and have pretty much run rampant with it, adding to the damn near panic of the weaker-minded of society.
Yes, that is also agenda-driven and yes, it's readily apparent to see for anyone capable of observing things outside of any political bent.

Panic buying is just that, Panic. People don't know why they are doing but they don't want to be the one who didn't and gets left out or doesnt have some necessity.

My feeling on this is that no one really knows what is what, the medical community (which is used to taking their sweet *** time) doesn't know how bad it is or isn't, subsequently the political "leaders" don't want to be on the wrong side of it so they are currently erring on the side of caution. The main problem is the flow of information; Stevie Wonder could have predicted that this situation was going to result in what we are seeing, it would have been very nice if the government (along with all of its experts and the medical community) could have preempted this by bringing in those big chain stores on the front end and told them what was about to happen, asked them to enact some common sense restrictions and then go public and being open and honest and basically telling everyone the same information but that there is no reason to be rushing to the stores in a panic and that they had taken steps to ensure that goods would remain available. This would have lessened the panic aspect to some and perhaps been a little better to deal with.

But, the media in its rush to get "the" scoop have been running worst case scenarios from basically day one because it gets more attention. When I say "media" I am referring to all media, left, right, etc. They are all feeding on this which has only increased the anxiety of many. On the other hand, the medical community has been saying basically the same thing; wash your hands, cover your mouth, etc. which is ok but it really does not provide any sense of security should you contract the virus. It "seems" that they are saying if you don't have it, practice increased hygiene measures, if you think you might have it stay home and try and not infect anyone else (impossible) and if you have it raging, then call a hospital and we will see what we can do... This is not all the comforting or reassuring which when coupled with the media's reports has resulted in the panic we see now.

the usa cannot and will not get anywheres close to the kind of measures the chinese took.

it is highly contagious.
the symptoms can range from person to person.
i have it Bad..my younger brother had it but not half as bad.
hospitals are not equipped to deal with so Many patients.

we should be Glad we live in the usa,because other countries are literally picking and choosing who gets care and who doesnt.
however,as long as the Asian markets still allow Wet markets to exist,this kind of thing can happen again and again.


in closing..i see a lot of lameass jokes and hey this isnt anything but the flu.
its all a big hoax and media frenzy...( yeah im sick from a hoax,rollseyes )
yet,there are people dying of this,all around the world.
please consider for a moment those people before making more stupid jokes.

BeatersRus I Hope you and your family get better quickly. I am sure it is no treat as not only being sick but having your loved ones around you sick too. I don't feel it is a hoax as it is a real virus but media is not helping in any fashion by talking about Racism, Xenophobia when trying to protect our borders or talk about the Wuhan virus and Stock piling of foods and other consumer products creating a Nationwide Panic... Again I hope you and your loved ones are safe and speedy recovery and sorry that you are goin through this with your family... Does your family need anything that is unavailable that members may have to help in anyway?
