Monday we removed the remaining floor and I cleaned it up and primed it. Barry welded in the bracing brackets for rails and spring hanger . Local guy folded the metal and friend and I shaped them up. I worked on the rear xmember I had folded up.
Tuesday we put the floor in. 70% welded in . Very happy the way the AMD panels fitted. Barry's welding is very good and getting great penetration. I did some more on the x member too.
What is the black material on top of the frame rails?
Sealer?
Looks like you did plug welds to attach the pan to the frame rails.
You drilled holes in the pan and welded them up to the frame rails?
Right?
I'm asking because I'm thinking the black stuff is in the way.
Since I don't have an expensive spot welder, that is the way I would have to do it.
That's a neat job too.
Hi onlyone,
Black material is paint, Hammerite to be exact. Only remove the rest of the old floor on the morning we were going to put the new one in. We used an air belt sander to clean up the old metal. Lack of time meant epoxy primer not an option. Used a rust converter/metal conditioner , then Hammerite because it is pretty tough and would dry quick.
Pre-drilled the new floor, lay it in and clamped it in place. Then used drill in the holes to remove the paint on the rails. Also used air belt to remove paint around the holes in the new floor. Bare metal means better plug welds.
Hope this helps.
Monday we got the rest of the floor welded in, also got the extensions fitted.
Today my panel guy started to repair the trunk lid frame, he made 2 great patches. He wants to get the lid finished before we put the new quarter on so as to get the gaps correct. I worked on getting the ground welds sealed before rust starts. Got a phone call to say my AMD parts had arrived , I dropped everything and went and picked them up. Arrived in perfect condition and look great when mocked up.
Panel guy has repaired the trunk skin, folded some new metal and made usual great job welding into place.
I spent the day removing the passenger quarter. I have since given the area a sand blast.
We welded the cuts in the Xmember and then I took it to a friend and he spot welded the reinforcing plates on. We have since weled the Xmember in. Thanks to Propwash for advice on how to make it fit up flush with the trunk floor.
On panelguys last visit he fitted the patch he made for the front of the driver quarter and the AMD patch I got for the rear. Hope to get the wheel archpatch in this week.
I borrowed friends shrinker/stretcher and put it to good use. Remade the rear glass reinforcing brackets in one piece and made the wheel tub lip for the new quarter to attach to.
Thanks for the great feedback fellars.
Having a good panel guy helps.
Hi propwash, I went with the cut the tabs off the rails and hammer up the indentations option.
I am very pleased with my Challengers finished look roadrunnerh. 2 1/2 yrs work paid off.
Had a spare afternoon so spent it on the RR. I am a Postal Worker so have the afternoons off, great for doing up cars.
Got my rear glass out and made a pattern of the bottom corner. Then cut out the thin pitted metal in the drivers rear glass corner. Made some patches for Barry to weld in.
Barry did great job on wheel arch. Was a real of his skill to keep the panel from warping.
We have moved into the window corner. First 2 patches welded in. Corner reinforcing tacked in. Barry approved my patch making. Top patch may need some modifcations
