Got parts back from sand blaster all clean and etch primed. Got these and all others epoxy primed on Sunday. Fine day yesterday so got them all painted black. Exhaust manifolds where just blasted and then I put a coat of metalic paint on them. The gold will burn off and slight metalic sheen.
Have now started back on blocking down the rear quarters.
I bought two new quarter skins that the guy who delivered them gave me a call one evening after i had my shower and was calling it a night and was going to be here in 1/2 hour which he did about a quarter to eight that night gurr lol and had numerous body parts i ordered from AMD and i think it was Shermans, entire floor and trunk pans ect.. I was whipped and didn't think and accepted them and there is a couple of those imperfections i found the next day on the quarter skins but was told i should have inspected them before they were taken off the truck, my bad and now ill be messaging at least one myself! You'll get it going by all you have done to date im sure!! i guess its all part of the fun Good luck...
I feel your frustration Ron.
I am happy enough given that the quarter has had a very long journey across half the world to reach me. The imperfections are only 1 or 1.5mm deep, I am just being fussy.
Sanded the fill then re-applied . Only minor low spots remained.
Got to the driver quarter today. I had filled it a few months back. Sanded up great , just needed minor re-skim. Hope to sand tomorrow then get both quarters epoxyed.
Have made some great progress , warm weather has been on my side.
Quarters have 2 good coats of epoxy ready for final sand. Have got the trunk lid ready as well, and have started on the doors.
I had the front valance acid and galv dipped. Was very thin in places, needs one end re-placing.
Been done lots of sanding and some filling. Got another 4 lt tin of epoxy primer, in white this time.
The passenger door sanded up real well, driver door needed more fill, mainly at the bottom where we welded in the new strip.
The guards came up nice with minimal filling. I looked at the trunk lid again and realised that the inside needed some work, more fill and sand.
Gave all these panels 3 coats of white.
Sanded the quarters with 100 to 180 grit paper, came up real nice. Gave these 3 coats of white yesterday. Will get the car out in the sun to help the paint harden , the guide coat and sand next week.
Ive loved the Road runners for so many years and ill tell you honestly IF there is any way i can do another after my 69, Im afraid it will probably have to be a 70 if i can get one! And you my friend are one of the biggest reasons outside of the fact my wife always liked the 70 better and i think its a good possibility i may see her more in my garage, maybe lol!
You make it look so good and easy and i know its anything but easy.. the reward is coming soon and you sure have earned it!
