I have 60 P.S.I. when driving, but if I have to make a hard stop it drops to 0 and stays there for 15 seconds or so. It is a 1969 383 with a 402 pan. Any ideas would be appreciated.
I put another 1/2 quart in it.Throw another quart in it.
Yes, mech gauge, and also a light.Mechanical gauge?
How many miles on the engine?
When was the pan last removed?
I'm going to pull the pan this winter to check it out.Is it possible the baffle let go allowing the oil to leave the suction area on deceleration?
Just thinking of the possible "not so bad" things it could be!
This is just a stock Roadrunner. So when I say Hard breaking, it's just at a yellow light on the street.get an accumulator. It compensates for that problem.
Yes it has a HV pump. I have them on a couple other motors, and they are OK. This is the only one with a stock pan, the others are 5 quart too. I think this engine has 20/50 Valvoline racing in it. Maybe the combination of thick oil & HV pump is the problem.Did you put a HV pump on it when it was built? common issue, if you did somebody should have told you to put a 7+ qt pan on.
Just thinkin out loud
BINGO- lessons learned from many builds.I had the same issue with my first new mild performance 383. No baffle or windage tray. After that one, now all my engines either have an aftermarket or the 6 pack/Hemi pan and a tray.
Is there any thoughts on not having a windage tray with the 402 pan?
