(Probably) an irrational fear...

Sorry to hear dadsbee's tale of woe.

I learned to drive in the UK and was taught, and still always do, set the hand/parking/emergency brake when parked. (At least in part because a never exercised 'emergency' brake isn't always going to work in an emergency!)

I have to use the parking brake now anyway as my car has a pushbutton TorqueFlite with NO park. Unfortunately, it's pretty poor and I daren't ever park on a slope

My cool neighbor had a Harley catch fire out of nowhere a couple months ago. Parked in the garage. He managed to put it out before too much damage was done and then discovered his wife somehow had a 70K policy on it and should have let it burn. Just some suped up FXR. I'm pretty good with bikes and still have no idea how it happened. Have a couple of theories but there's not enough left to test.
