Restomod charger pics

View attachment 99283Just got my Vintage air mock up unit, time to finish up the dash installation and get it wired. Looks like I'll have to shave a little off of the console where it tucks under the dash for more clearance to fit the A/C unit. Started to build the exhaust but was quickly sidelined by a stubborn header that won't get off of my tranny. Hopefully after this weekend I'll have a picture of the interior buttoned up minus seats. Things have been going really slow, long hours at work combined with everything I try to do ends up being a fight, on top of that I can only get in the garage on weakend nights to do any work. Oh well, always look on the bright side "I have the car of my dreams".:headbang: This is the look I'm going for with my build (not a General Lee though).

Looking good! Love that dash..

Thanks Ron, there was a lot of work, cussing and praying that it would come out right put into it. Any compliments makes it seem a little less painful. Just getting the Curly Maple to match the Mahogony steering wheel was a chore, in the end the folks at Sherwin Williams got it right for me. With any luck (something I don't have much of) I'll get the A/C unit installed and mount it for the last time.

Looks great I love it. Did you do anything to the motor.

Yes, I was originally going to go with a 440 but after some research I learned that the 400 with the 440 crank was the better route to go. I did the needed lathe work to the crank to make it fit myself and then had it turned and balanced along with the rods etc. It has KB pistons milled down for 9.8:1 comp with the 452 heads. I elected to try porting them myself (I'm poor) and had them flowed, they are right there with the Chinese Stealth heads. The cam is a 21-224-4 comp cam and comp cams magnum rockers. It's topped off with an Eddelbrock Rpm and an 870 Holley Avenger. The goal was to go big in the cubes to make good reliable power at a reasonable rpm and at a bargain price $4,500, I'm hoping for somewhere in the 500hp area.

Ive never thought about trying the Curly Maple in some way on any of my cars, To me that is one of the prettiest woods out there.

I agree, I work at a sawmill so getting all kinds of unique wood isn't a problem.

If anybody could help me locate a 2 speed wiper switch to finish off my dash I would really appreciate it. I'm looking for one of the short shaft twist knob style switches, I believe they came in trucks, vans and possibly some A bodies. I went with all Ron Francis switches but they don't offer anything to operate the wiper so I'm wanting the twist style so I can make my own knob to match the rest. Thanks

This guy is usually pretty pricy, but ive yet to talk with them and they NOT have a part. If you call them and tell them exactly what you want at least you have something to go by, These shouldn't be like some really hard to find parts so it may not be very much. I like them because ive never had any problems and ive never heard anyone say they didn't stand behind there stuff... Its been quite awhile since i talked with them so i hope its still a good source! good luck.. Second link you could try also..

Here's a few pictures of what I've been up to WIRING, WIRING, SCRATCHING MY HEAD AND WIRING. I made the copper plate so I would have a good ground for everything, it will have one heavy wire going threw the firewall grounded to the motor along with the main ground. I also spent allot of time figuring out the best way to install a Vintage Air Gen II Super Cooler as well. The A/C was trickier then I thought it would be, getting it to clear the wiper arms linkage, gas pedal linkage, console, and the bulkhead was a pain. I made a few aluminum brackets so I won't need someone holding a wrench in the engine compartment when I can finally afford the actual unit (this is a mockup unit). Anybody have a Charger? look at the pic of the grill, is it supposed to be in that deep showing that much of the inside of the fender? I can't see anywhere to adjust it out any further. The shifter is installed and operational "pretty easy" used a 4' cable and routed it threw the original shifter linkage hole with an aluminum plate to seal it off. As you can see I mounted the 6AL box and the fuse panel where the glove box should be, I managed to make a glove box that's just big enough for my registration (not shown). The big decision right now is whether or not to mount the battery in the trunk as planned. I was dead set on it because I love the engine compartment the way it is "nice and neat" but my inner conscience keeps telling me put it where it belongs closer to where the amps are needed. What do you think, is it problematic to have it in the trunk? I figured I would put a pic of the dash with the column and wheel installed while I was at it. WOW. Really amazing work! The dash and console are really works of art. Definitely going to be a standout.

As far as the hoodscoop goes and "getting away from the Ford look" I'd recommend reducing the height of the scoop and making it a little wider. Possibly a modified T/A Challenger scoop?? 987d1217139977-spring-special-challenger-srt-8-chally-ta.jpg

IMO a low, wide, rectangular scoop would complement the car well (almost a reversal of the wide, shallow scallops in the stock hood)

To answer your question about the grille, that looks just about spot-on. My grille assembly isn't final-fit right now, but the "c" trim extends pretty far forward from that housing. Should fill that gap nicely :icon_thumleft:

That T/A scoop you pictured is really close to what I'm shooting for in looks when I get it done, obviously it won't stand off the hood in the front since it's a shaker but that's the look. I was looking threw my post (haven't looked in a while) and realized just how out of date they are, I'll get some pics this weekend. The deconstruction pics are all pre media blasting, epoxy primer and spray on beadliner. The pics of the car are right after the metal was finished up "very little body work". It's pretty much ready for paint right now but still wearing those slick white mags Ha Ha. I'm super excited right now, I'll be getting my seats soon. After seeing what he could do for my rears I elected to have him do them all "so much for using really nice leather seats". The original idea was to just do the rears to match the fronts, now he's going to add 2" pleats in the centers (69ish) stitched in orange along with double French seams also stitched in orange kinda like the new srt seats "can't wait". He's letting me work off my bill,:hello2: right now I'm installing a vintage air system in a 63 corvette for him and have been plaining lumber as well.

Did you ever find that wiper switch knob?
Not yet, I've been a little buisy and broke lately, once I get it fired (should definetly be this weekend) I'll get back to that. There was a guy who responded that had one for 25.00 but I guess I asked to many questions (he posted a pic of a non two speed motor so I was a little hesitant to buy) oh, well.

Yeah that's the ticket and i'm really looking forward to seeing your finished project it looks like it's going to be a standout overall balanced package! Keep it up you're getting close!

Busy and broke! Thats the story of my life!!!
Amen to that, it's when against all odds that you finally achieve your goal that it all pays off. I'm a literally a pitman arm, power steering pump and alternator away from this thing actually being capable of moving itself :headbang: "that is if the motor fires and runs and the trans doesn't self destruct". We'll find out tonight, wish me luck

Good luck. I've got a mid 70's dodge van in storage I can look at this weekend if you want me to. Just let me know what I need to look for to make sure it's a 2 speed wiper switch.

That would be great, If the wiper motor looks like this it should work. I'm looking for the twist knob style with the short shaft, I believe the vans and trucks are short shafts. Thanks
