Saving another 68 Charger

I can't wait to get mine to where you are now! Looking good!!!!

Well I finally got one thing done. My radio is finished. Haven't had a whole lot of time to do much now that I have a new job and the car is home. You would think it would be easier now that it's right there. I have been making some progress.... I dug a trench to run my conduit and compressor lines from my shed to the garage. Lucky for me I decided to use pvc for air line then discovered it can be lethal if it blows up. It said working pressure 480PSI, sounded good to me. So I got to redig my trench(by hand) on a nice hot Sunday. All is good now, and sod is back where it belongs. Next I will be installing an A/C unit to keep cool and so I can keep the door shut to keep out all the &%@# mosquitos. Anyway here is a video link of the radio, pretty happy with it, turned out rather well. I had to use a super bright LED to light the display, you can't even look at it normally without seeing spots.

i was just redoing my radio & what you have done is AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THAT IS SO COOL!!! Nice job on that radio. Next step is to install it in the Charger and lets go cruising. :) Oh wait, I have to finish the Coronet first. LOL

unfortunately I'm in the same boat. Kind of silly, working radio with a shell of a car. Progress none the less... Thanks for the props!

That's the nice thing about these projects they are always waiting there for us. They don't complain and we get to them when we can. Remember, ancient Chinese proverb "Every time you fall on your face at least you're going forward!" :toothy5:

Yeah, loved but never forgotten. Just like a woman, all you need is time and money to keep them.

Well, I figured I better get back up on that horse. I've been doing small stuff, hardware, window regulators, and door internals. I got my driver side door out and started sanding it down. Come to find out someone has been tap dancing on the lower rear corner. After some sandblasting I came to the conclusion I need a door skin. 20140305_150941.jpg

I started by grinding the edges starting at the bottom edge until a thin line started to appear. Mine started to separate by itself and the rest was done with light pressure and a screwdriver. Afterwards I marked and grinded the spot welds off.20140313_121420.jpg

Next step, sandblasting. Came out pretty good but ran out of sand though. Have a few holes but a little welding will fix that.20140314_210047.jpg20140314_204833.jpg20140314_204136.jpg20140314_204833.jpg

A little more welding and grinding and I think I'll be good. Now all I need is money for a skin.

Did some more work on the driver door the past few days. Had to replace my door latch area. Mine has several cracks and one of the mounting holes is broken. While I was at WPC swap meet I picked up a patch panel. Nice little kit.

Had to do a little fabrication due to the interference with some mounting holes.

Got it all tacked in just have to do a few touch ups and more grinding.image.jpg
You can see where had to make some holes in the plate.

Other than that went in rather well. Should be getting a door skin before too long.

Hey great job on your car. Do you know where I can buy one of those door latch repair plates?

Thank you, and thanks to all. Feels good to be making progress again. I got the repair panel from Dynamic Renovation( www.dynamicrenovation.net ). They have lots of little goodies like that, including a mirror reinforcement that I have yet to purchase.

You are without a doubt a life saver! Those are the areas that are broken on my doors. I will be checking that place out and as always beautiful work on the doors.

Glad to help. Can't keep all my tricks a secret, lol. That company was definitely one of the highlights at the WPC show in January. I see your project is moving along nicely. Keep up the good work and we'll be cruising in no time.:steering:
