So.....My DOG tested positive for THC. Huh ???

I wish that this dog was recovering that fast. She still is acting strange. She alternates between dazed and confused and being reasonably alert. She was bad enough again this morning.. the Wife took her in again. Still no signs of anything but the THC issue. Healthy heart, lungs, kidneys and liver. What a mystery this is.

The vet can't give her anything to help process it through her system quicker?

I knew guys at work that used different things to clean their system out faster when the testing was going around.

That's just weird?

The Vet just administered some fluids since she was slightly dehydrated. I feel pretty helpless at this point. They keep saying to let her process it out of her system.

Wow I hope she can feel better soon and no idea what it is yet or how ?
Sounds like maybe someone threw something into your yard or she picked something up at a park on a walk or ?

Many of those products just cover the THC after you drink lots and lots if water. When you drink quantities of water it will dilute your urine and the people will know what is going on.

Try walking her. Maybe that will speed up the metabolism and get the toxins out.
This is really much much longer than anything I've heard of . My brothers dog was fine after 12 hours.
Perhaps a 2nd opinion is needed

Hey Kern, I Googled "My Dog Tested Positive for THC" and it's amazing how many post are there on this. Most state that it doesn't take that long for the dog to process it. A day or two was the norm.

If she's still showing symptoms, maybe she still has access to it. If there is a plant outside somewhere she might revisit it. I read one post that the dog's owner had a friend over, a bag fell out of his pocket and the dog ate it. The friend wouldn't fess up, seeing what had happened to the dog.

Another "vet" thread had mentioned that if the dog ate bird seed, it could test positive for THC being that there is small amounts of hemp in the seed. Very small amounts, not enough to cause any symptoms but a urine test might show small levels.

Most vet threads say that there isn't a good blood or urine test for dogs. They mostly go by their symptoms. What to believe? Also an interesting fact was mentioned about the legalization of pot in some states, has caused an increase in these cases.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Get a second opinion. I know it's expensive, but this is your best friend. Don't want to find out too late it was something curable. And watch her every time you let her out.

Don't want to say it but antifreeze even a little can cause some symptoms of what your describing as well
  • Drunken behavior.
  • Euphoria/Delirium.
  • Wobbly, uncoordinated movement.
  • Nausea/Vomiting.
  • Excessive urination.
  • Diarrhea.
  • Rapid heart beat.
  • Depression.

Three years ago one of our dogs licked some anti-freeze. We had to go through a process to get him cleared out. One method was...VODKA! Somehow, it stimulates something to pass the toxins through faster?
Domino has improved some. She perks up and responds to words and squeaky toys. Before, she just did not care or respond at all, just staring off into space or something.
She is walking, sometimes a bit wobbly as if dizzy.
No access to anti freeze where she goes. We have been outside with her every time since last Saturday. It would be unlikely for her to be reintroduced to anything unusual in that time.
The only sensible cause I can figure is that someone tossed something over the fence, something small enough for dogs to see but for us to miss. She must be allergic to THC similar to how some people freak out and get paranoid when on it while others just mellow out.
Thanks for all of the suggestions...I have been at a loss as to how or why this happened. We have no kids, the dogs are our children.

One of the threads that I read talked about the dog eating a "bud" and it stayed in his digestive track for quite awhile. Maybe keep an eye on her stools?

Glad to hear she's doing better:thumbsup:

Maybe??? a mini-stroke? How old? I don't even want to get into wasted time because of not thinking of something and then it's too late. Happened to our "buds" more than I want to count.

Domino is 4 years old. "Mini stroke"...I never thought of that. I'll run that one by the Wife when she gets home. Thank you.

your story with the THC simply doesn't add up
the effects from it do not last for days unless it keeps on consuming it
and it doesn't sound like the case here.

the effects from a stroke will last for days and even longer
and you are describing the same symptoms that my dog had.
my last dog had them and it cost me a small fortune dealing with it.
special food, pills and many vet bills
i was told it could be caused from some of the preservatives in commercial dog food
so this could be diet related?
google bht and dog food will open your eyes!
and i would also advise you to get a 2nd opinion as stated above

Man I really hope she gets better the tough thing with our dogs is they can't tell you so sometimes it's a guessing game .
Hope she gets better

Sorry to hear this about your baby Greg. I sincerely hope all ends well. Very strange. I was reading a story about the doggie flu in the Bee last week. Few but mounting cases here in the valley but I would imagine the Vet would be aware of this. The article did say it lasts for about a week to10 days I believe.
This would NOT account for the THC diagnosis though. The bird seed suggestion for that could be the answer there perhaps.

Day by day she improves. She is more alert and responsive today. I am happy for any signs of her returning to normal.

Sad news. We saw a specialist today and he thinks that she may have something wrong in her brain, something neurological. I KNEW the THC diagnosis was bullshit. Her symptoms have lasted far longer than a few days. Now the Wife is going to see how much the pet insurance covers for an MRI.

That sucks! Prayers coming her way.

That’s why I said stroke, one week after like yours; 2 weeks later- red eyeballs (vet said getting better)and a month later.....This crap of getting better, worse, better is really sorrowful.
