So.....My DOG tested positive for THC. Huh ???

That sucks, poor girl...
I hope it's a chemical imbalance issue or something simple
& not a physical one, like brain damage, injury or a tumor etc.
Hopefully maybe a Rx pill, can treat it or something...

Keep hope, I hope she get better soon...

It is strange how pets have become so much more endearing to us as compared to a generation ago. Dad would have taken Domino to "The Farm" by now. The Wife and I have no kids, just the dogs. I'm willing to spend a few bucks to help her but I am not swimming in cash. Pet Insurance really helps with this sort of thing. I am hoping that it turns out to be something they can treat without surgery. We once had a dog that had bone cancer. We spent $3000 on radiation treatments and the poor dog only lived another 6 months before breaking his shoulder socket. That is always the problem and the tough situation: Do you spend the money knowing that it only delays the inevitable? How do you look that sweet pet in the eye and not do whatever you can to help them?

I know that feeling all to well,
it's a extremely tough decision to have to make...
It's never easy...
Even when my dad was ranching it was tough,
you get to know the animals, even livestock & chickens...

I was distraught when they harvested my pig Pacilio,
he was like a dog followed me everywhere, they took him
{slaughtered him} for meat while I was visiting my mom, in the summer,
I guess it was better that way, it still affected me...

I was heartbroken when I had to sell off my 1200# Bull Kevin,
his seed {sperm} was worth far too much, we needed to sell him
in his prime, he was my 4-H & FFA project since the day he was born,
I bottle fed the little dude, it was tough, he was like my boy...

You can't name it or it's really tough, still tough anyway,
taking any life shouldn't ever be easy, even for food,
they gave theirs for yours, more people should have to experience that,
there'd be a far less amount of waste...

Dogs are another deal altogether, they are our loyal friends &
they depend on us for protection & health...

Funny how humans get attached to pets & animals...

Any updates?

We did take her to a different Doctor and he agreed that the THC test/diagnosis is not the problem. I suspected that it was bullshit too. He thinks she has some neurological condition. Monday we take her in for an MRI. We have pet insurance that covers 90% so what would be a big bill is actually affordable.
She acts drunk sometimes, has balance trouble, her eyes go wide as if she is blind at times. It is so sad because she is normally very active and sweet.

Good luck on the tests.

I've always said Doctors are like car mechanics. Some know what they are doing, some don't. Some use process of elimination, some know what to check for. It's the "not knowing" that can be frustrating.

I have heard of "False Positives" many times. It happens with HIV tests...Imagine how you'd feel getting terrible news that changes your outlook...then learning it was a screw up. I'd be both relieved and pissed off.
I suspect that the animal Docs know that we have sympathy and they will play on that. In 2013 we had a Border Collie that "may have" licked up some anti-freeze in the garage. I took him to the emergency vet. Of course he tested positive and they treated him...at a cost. How do I prove that he actually was not poisoned? I can't.
With Domino, the THC seemed like a quick-draw diagnosis from the start.
Monday we should know more. I really hope that it is treatable with meds.

****.... I had no idea this thread took a turn...... sorry to hear about the pooch, KD; you know where I come down on this

Sorry dude was thinking of you today as I took the old boy for a walk .Really hope something positive happens with this .

This is the reason i don't have pets its all too hard.when i was a kid and a dog was sick some how apparently one of us kids had left the gate open according to dad.but we all know what that meant

Kern, I was thinking of your pup today and thought I'd check the thread just to see. I saw the funny /hilarious memes so I thought things were good then this thread took an unexpected turn for me too. I hope they can figure out and treat the issue! Good luck!

Thanks guys...I am humbled by the support!
All is not doom and gloom though. WE should learn more tomorrow. I'm the optimistic type....I am hopeful that whatever this is, it may be treatable.
Thanks again.

There's a couple of dog foods, I read recently,
that have been wreaking havoc on dogs lately too
allegedly Gravy Train & Kibbles & Bits, Skippy & ol' Roy
it had a euthanasia drug in it somehow, pentobarbital
also the same parent company, JM Smuckers also makes canned food
a bunch of different names, that is or was in process of being recalled for IIRC
some of the types of symptoms, maybe your girl is showing...

There was an article I saw, in Yahoo {liberal rag} a few days ago,
I was gonna' post it & I forgot...

Bing or Google search it, Gravy Train dog food, if you think it can help...

We feed her the same food as the other dogs. I guess I'm lucky that the food is not the cause!
We feed them "Taste of the Wild" and "Orajen"....food that is not usually found except in specialty stores.

Yesterday we took her to a vet 2 hours away since it was the soonest appointment we could get for an MRI. Instantly the Doc concurred with the last guy that the THC diagnosis was probably a FALSE positive and that whatever she has is something that he has not seen before. What the heck ?
Millions of dogs in the world and this poor dog has a condition that nobody can understand. The MRI showed some abnormalities in the brain, strange small lumps and a small mass at the base that appears non cancerous. The Doc seemed smart and very curious. We are still waiting on the results of the spinal tap.
I love this dog but how much do you put a poor pet through? Doc thinks if the spinal tap is inconclusive, a "fungal" test may show something....at a cost of another $350. As I said, we do have insurance and as of now, this sweet dog has been away from us for a day and a half, we have committed to at least $4000 worth of guessing and....depending on the spinal tap...they may not know anything more. One option is to medicate her with anti-inflammatory drugs in the hopes the spots could be shrunk down to where her brain may regain some function.
This **** sucks. You feel guilty if you don't spend some money on them but you feel like an idiot if the money is wasted when all that effort results in nothing.
