Waking up the beast

Hopefully it will look great when it gets finished,

it's a little gaudy yellow right now...LOL...

A little "organsol or semi gloss black" when you get finished will all the prep & fill work
{hopefully you don't add back "too much weight" to the 6bbl scoop/hoods final product...he he ha ha}

are you going to make it functional ram air too ??

good luck, have fun, every little bit helps...
Down the road I will make it functional.I just want to get it on the car for now. I cut out a bunch of plywood that was is the hood to start. So
I'm lighter now with the scoop than I was with a hole in the hood.

So, with my newly found hood clearance, aside from a new intake/carb combo, would anyone recommend using 1 or 2" carb spacers? I'm guessing that would act like an increase in plenum runner length?

Hotlips, get a set of these for your car.
I run these on every engine and they work, you could even stack them up. get the thick version. they were at Carlisle, too bad we didn't talk about this there.

you want T155. If they are too thick, i'll take them and i'll give you a set of standard one.

yes Bobtile, if you have the room, it will make more power & torque thru out the RPM range,
it's not big #'s, but it's well worth the price of using a 1"-2" spacer, a little free fall tunnel ram effect...

phenolic spacers are great for isolating any intake heat transfer {I prefer the phenolic spacers, I use them allot}
or aluminum spacer, I've used both styles, 4 port tapered spacers & open spacers
& seemed a little more off idle throttle responsive/drivability with the 4 port tapered spacers,
but I have no HP #'s to compare the 2...

I didn't do any side by side comparisons thou...

Either would work fine, taller takes you RPM band only slightly higher,
you may have to make an extension for the throttle cable & cable hold down mount
& possibly mount it higher with a 2" spacer, IIRC with a 1" spacer it shouldn't be an issue...

IIRC IQ52/Jim did some dyno runs {using an open 2" spacer IIRC} & he picked up like 12-15 hp across the board,
the results were posted on here somewhere

Would you use these with a spacer? They don't seem too thick. They are a good idea but I wanted to raise the carbs too.

How much a drivability difference in the open vs. 4 hole? If not a big difference, I would like the one that would gain more power.
I have a lokar cable now, so I could probably adjust for the height difference. If not, a new cable. Not a big deal.

Without researching it I'm not sure which one makes more power, I do know the 4 port tapered one I used had great drivability,
I don't think the differences would be all that much, maybe a couple HP at best differences...
I used Cantan Racing, Wilson Manifolds & Qucikfuel stuff allot...
the 4 port tapered designs, are usually far more money than the open or straight 4 port designs...

there's a ton of them out there,
Quickfuel, Wlison Manifolds, Holley, Summit Racing, Jegs, Transdapt, Mr. Gasket, Canton Racing, Edelbrock, Moroso, Allstar, Hamburger, Willy's carb shop, CSR, Offenhouser, Proform, Airaid, AED Steff's, Spectra, Trickflow...
yada yada yada,
many claim big gains & different attributes,
IMHFO mostly hype, some are swirl design, it "may" have some attributes, for better mixing atomization...

I'd like to know which one BOBTILE likes, I want to get the same one as him.
Everything he touches lately turns to gold.

If , by gold you mean S#&t, then yes. Everything turns to that.

so what did you end up going with ??

Had a friend who had an edelbrock 4 hole 2", so I just bought one more of those. My throttle cable needed a little tweeking but it works. it raised my idle about 200 rpm.

If you pick up with them at the next race make sure you keep an eye out for someone with a quick ratchet in hand.
They might disappear.Real fast Mr. Gold dust! :rolling:

I have locks on them. According to my calculations, These should put me in the 9's easy.

Looks good Bobtile,
hope it helps...

ILMFAO about getting into the 9's comment...
thanks I needed that

Got out to the track today and raced a Nostalgia race. That was cool. Also got to meet Big Daddy. that was more cool. The way I lost just sucked. In 6 passes today, the car ran 12.0@103. Made a jet change on the carbs. 11.88, 11.88, 11.89 ,11.89. Won the first round and changed my dial from 11.85 to 11.89. I heard them call my class so I went up. They informed me that I missed the second round. I never heard them call with funny cars warming up next to me. They let me make a pass by myself and it ran 11.89. Doesn't suck much more than that!
