where the ignition timing set ?? just curious

Leaned it out just to try, but did the same thing. Put back the original setup(84 primary an 92 secondary) Tightened intake bolts and seemed better.
Just took off the intake and found the gasket partially torn. Putting a new gasket on now.

So, the test today didn't go as I had hoped. There was a 30 MPH cross/head wind at the track today. They would only let us go 1/8 mile. Went up for my first time trial and was popping a bit during the burnout. I made half a pass because it was stumbling off the hit. Breaking up pretty badly. I also heard a whistling sound. Got back to the pits and took off the hood. Found a lot of oil sprayed over the engine compartment. Loaded her up on the trailer and drove 2-1/2 hours home. The good news is I had plenty of daylight left to work on the car. I should tell you that the carb was set up fairly rich to begin with. The DA at 10 this morning was -993ft. So I think I needed to be richer. Any way, I got home and took the carb off and doubled up the gasket underneath to see if that fixed the whistle, but it didn't. Took off the intake and the problematic 440 source valley pan and finally threw it away. Put a stock turkey pan with gasket on and that cured the vacuum and the oil leak. Took the car out for a blast up the street and was still breaking up. Went up another 3 sizes on the jets and went for a ride again. Much better, more responsive and feeling like a lot more power, but still breaking up a tiny bit. Put the car away and called it an evening. I'm going in the right direction with the setup. Next weekend I'll hit Island for a test n tune for probably the last time this year and hope to get some real data. I am encouraged though.
