What Carb should I put on 440 going in 70 Coronet?

I'd suggest the 3310 Holley. NOTE: for the N96 setup, you'll need a stock intake manifold & the Holley won't fully sit down on the intake. You can clearance the intake & bottom of the carb very easily. Great carburetor on a 440

I concur.....I had a '71 Dodge Charger 500, WP23U1A******, fairly stock 440, 727B TF, 8-3/4" rear, PS/PDB, all the other features of an R/T with out the badges and stripes, with poverty hub caps and 60 series rubber on all corners, with black steel wheels. I retro fitted an Edelbrock (aka "Eddy") Torker II, open plenum X configuration manifold with a Holley Model 4150, R-3310-1 780 CFM, with down leg secondary booster venturi and a cable operated manual choke. EXCELLENT combination, sharp throttle response, great top end, reasonable fuel milage, vacuum secondaries for smooth, no bog transition. But....I still like the Carter AVS for originality. Just my opinion of course.

I have a 1970 Superbee. The original engine has a Holley on it that I was told was the original one. It's covered up in the barn but if you really need more I can get to it and get numbers. It came with a 440 source 496 stroker engine that had an Edlebrock on it, took it off for a 850 Quick Fuel...much better

If you would want to use a Thermoquad, you will have to use the 73 and up TQ 440 cast iron manifold.

I would go with Edelbrock 800 AVS2 and take advantage of updated Carter, get a air/fuel gauge and the jet kit to tune it up.

I also concur.....please look at my photo garage.....for my almost numbers matching '70 GTX RS23V0A****** which has date coded Holley carbs, Prestolite dual point distributor, A34 Super Trac Pac, 4.10:1 Dana 60, A833 18 spline 4 speed trans, etc. For a stock body car, albeit with a slightly modified 440, nothing beats the feel and rush you get, when the end carbs open and the world starts to blur......except....maybe sex....

thanks for your info also if you can get the Holley's model number it would appreciated. I thought Holley was offered in 440 in 1970 but wasn't completely sure.

INCORRECT.....IF your car was an origional "U" code with the N96 air grabber, the origional carb was a Carter AVS 4739S (4 speed trans). The LOW HP 440 used a Holley Model 4160 R-4360 (with N95)....the Low Hp engine was used in the Chrysler 300 series + Dodge + Plymouth full size cars (C bodies).
If you want to build a 1970 model tribute car, the Holley's on the "V" code engine are: Model 2300 R-4375 (center manual trans or R-4376 center auto trans) both 355 CFM. End carbs: Model 2300 R- 4382 & R-4383 @ 500 CFM each. The 1970 model year Air Grabber setup on a Dodge was different than Plymouth. Is this the info you need?

Just call Holly they will ask you a couple of questions than say what size carb is best for you.

My 69 Coronet R/T is a completely stock manual trans car as well. I ended up using a Quick Fuel 750 cfm double pump style Hot Rod series carb. It completely changed the throttle response to a very snappy, responsive feeling. I fabricated my own steel double feed fuel lines with a T block that my original AVS feed line screws into. Super clean, stealthy, and easily can revert back to Carter if required. The Carter is very forgiving, put the seat of the pants response of a Holley style carb is quite noticeable. I figured I'd chime in, as my car is like yours for an accurate comparison.

Weiand Action Plus or Edelbrock CH4B will fit....barely, with N96. Both out of production, but maybe a swap meet or eBay find.

I know this thread is a carb question, but thought I should mention it

10:1 on iron heads is probably too much for a stock’ish hp cam on pump gas right?

If the 10:1 was just in reference to stock compression, then it will likely be a lot lower anyway.

Pistons are usually down the hole some (varies) and most people use thicker than stack head gaskets

A surprising amount of change to the compression can be done with head gasket thickness; to lower compression with thicker gaskets than the stock metal shim gaskets (was surprising to me anyway)

Anyway from what everything I’ve ready, these motors seem to respond well to better flowing intake and a bigger carb; headers too. Just FYI.

Stock rocks though; if that’s what you want, go for it.

I could do it again, I would have done my build stock and then upgraded as I go; see the improvements or trade-offs for myself

Perhaps you mean ANNULAR discharge booster venturii? Your reference relates to a more solid type of discharge in another totally different application.

I got so tired of fuel leaks I ditched the Holley style carbs for an Edelbrock AVS on the 360 and went EFI on the 383. Let a Holley sit for a while, it will leak. Take the bowls off a few times to do some tuning and it will leak. Sometimes just start it up and turn it off and it will leak.
