What did you do today....other than work on your car!?

Cleared a bunch of downed trees that had fallen across a neighbors 698 ft access road onto their lot.
Loaded a couple of chainsaws into the back of Montana and started down in, cutting and clearing as I went, until I reached the old open lot.
No one has been down here in years, but the owners called me from Florida yesterday with some concerns, so I was down there checking things out for them.

Not much of an access road left these days, but at least you can drive a truck down in there now.

Swapped out the old OE grill shell with a nice new one.
They have been $500-600 bucks for years and I found one at Crash Parts for $114 bucks, down from $600 and jumped on it with both feet.

Well, a couple of nights ago we went with a few friends out for a meal at a relatively new Smoked Meat Restaurant. They allegedly have the biggest smoker in New Zealand, and the reputation is growing. I had seen the menu prior, and wondered if the prices were a bit steep given the portion sizes....but once it comes out onto the table, you realise how good it is, and it does get filling. It also helps to have a few good beers along for the ride.

Here's a link to the restaurant..... Blue Ox Babe - BBQ Joint

....and of course.... :xscuseless:

I also grabbed some take-out for my elder son who couldn't make it along.....had some nice sandwiches with warmed up smoked brisket yesterday. :D

Smoked meats, beers and shenanigans......a great evening....

Took a rare day off from the shop to attend my sons graduation with a masters degree in education and music.
Was a great day, both mama and I are very proud and happy for him.

Young and poor me also screwed screws back in after coating with silicone or rubber cement.

Get enough of them and fun spark shows happen when you burn rubber.
Same with studded all weather tires!

Had studded snow tires and spun them for 50ft+. Looked in the rear view mirror and saw scratch lines in concrete pavement.
A few years ago I ordered some really short studded snow tires. IIRC, they were about 22" tall. Got them mainly to see how my 95 V6 would act with a lower gear ratio and what better why to see than using short tires! They were the only things I could find that short so.....anyways. Got lots of looks just from the noise they made lol. Got one cop's attention as I drove by him doing 30 mph. He was in a parking lot about to get in his car and looked over at me as I went by. I'm sure he was wondering what the noise was. The V6 woke up too!

When I saw how many tons it is, my first thought was that you must be splitting 'live' oak but then noticed your location. Doubt there is any live oak up there. Man, that stuff has a wavy grain and is super though to split. My dad come over one day while I was hand splitting some red oak and he looked at the live oak that was off to the side and asked me why I wasn't working on it too. Uh, tough stuff dad and well, not gonna do it. He grabbed the maul and got 3 short 8" diameter pieces split in 20 minutes and was worn out after that. Had access to a 20 ton splitter for awhile and that thing only put 1" deep dents in it.....

I am limping to the end of this week's work week. I have 2 weeks off starting next week. Been a long stretch between holidays. 3 cars and a small truck work on agenda for time off. So a house and vehicle chore vacation. ☹️

Rode 50 miles, ran the dog 2, and didn't do jacksheeat the rest of the day except take a dip in the pool

In the last 4 years I've had three homes. This is my last one and I finished hanging my car stuff back up in the garage for the last time. I covered it with OSB, but I didn't paint it, I just didn't feel like it. I'm so tired of houses and all the moving, I quit. My whole life has been about the smell of wood, moving wood, cutting wood, nailing wood, wood for the chair someone sat on, wood, wood. Screw wood, I now have a gas fireplace!!
My wife can't drive anymore, macular degeneration, so I'm down to two cars, our Durango and the Coronet, in the smallest garage I've had since I got married. This house is 1750 square feet, I've had attached garages just short of that size!! I don't even take care of the yard. My HOA fees pays for everything including the pool and the water for my yard. I just point now!!

Pulled a dozen logs out the woods, up a steep embankment, with a chain and a lawn tractor.
Cut it and split it where it lay. Stacked it on the truck and drove the entire load up the hill to the backyard. Unloaded it and stacked it on the pallets. Cleaned up the mess with the leaf blower.
As my wife likes to say, work smarter, not harder.
