What did you do today....other than work on your car!?

took the wife to get eye exam and new eye glasses (for both of us).......we were way over due for an update...... we considered it a Christmas gift for both of us

Got a flat tire on my beater Dakota after going to the post office. Luckily, it went down at home. There's a carport on the back of my shop where it lives and the day is nice enough to have the back door open and I kept hearing the truck popping. Thought it was cooling down but the sound was different and when I looked it it, it was sitting low on the left rear and went to look, yup, flat on the bottom. Other than that, put some Christmas lights on the bushes in the front and raked up a couple of wheel barrows of leaves.

I put the Lionel Crayola train I bought 30 years ago around the Christmas tree for my grandson. My locomotive wouldn't work. Having forgotten and trying to run it with an AC power pack did bad things to the electronic reverser. So, I bought an entire set off of Ebay for $90. That locomotive only ran in reverse. Today, I cut the electronic brains out of both locomotives and direct wired the DC can motors to the track pick up. Now they both run smoothly in both directions simply by turning the knob on the transformer. Center is off. Twist it one way and forward, twist it the other way and reverse. The electronic brains were simply unnecessary.

Were those for the lights?

Oh,

recovered from covid

second time.

Not nearly as bad as the first time, but it brought back the cold I had last month.
Chills, body aches, shakes, brain fog, and last but not least extreme fatigue and nausea.
At least I could stand up on the first try this time.
...and it only lasted 4 days, not 25 like last time

First time I had virtually zero cold like symptoms.

Went to check out a new self serv wrecking yard that opened up today, on the other side of town.
No old Chrysler's, Dodge's, Plymouth's to be found, from back in the 1960's, 1970's, dinosaur days.
Everything is from the 2000's on up, to pretty much 2017 year cars.
But gave this old man, something to do, this morning. lol

As a Wisconsinite, the white stuff is flying. Fired up the old Mighty Mo' and the 8 foot snow blower attached to it and went and played a bit. Might as well enjoy the work!

If you're asking if the circuit boards in the trains were for the lights, they were not. Power picked up from the rails came through two black wires to yellow wire nuts. Each wire nut had twisted together the track power lead, a power feed to the circuit board (either gray or brown), and a skinny red wire that fed the headlight. Then red and black wires fed power from the circuit board to the DC can motor. One circuit board would provide no power to the motor and the other only provided reverse polarity power. It took less than 10 minutes to remove the circuit boards from both locomotives and get them going again. No idea why Lionel over complicated these things that were marketed for Children to play with.

Took it easy today and went and had a late lunch with a old friend. Ate Mexican and had a burger....this place has the best burgers I've eaten anywhere but it's 15 bucks. Imo, it's worth it! It only costs me 7.50 though :D Fixin to go kick back in the 'chair'!

Doesn't Lionel reverse "automatically" by stopping then starting?

IE no control on the power pack- you wanna stop and then go the same way----nuh uh.

Sorted, punched, filed and tallied all the parts that I've bought for all the cars the past 7 years. Put them all in binders and added them to the library. Part of getting everything in one place for the next generations. Also had some fun with the Granddaughter...

AC trains do that. DC trains do the same thing but use a circuit board to reverse polarity
