What did you do today....other than work on your car!?

I pulled my old Les Paul Gold Top apart back in the late 80's, and it has been laying around in the case ever since.
Slow day, so I pulled it out of the case and started working on it, wiring, soldering, replacing worn parts that needed replacing. I decided to replace the original Humbuckers with an old set of P90's I had kick'n around, just for a different look, but I was pleased with the tone of the P90's as well.
This poor old guitar saw a lot of use prior disassembly, but it's back in action once again.
For you guitar aficionados out there, this one is an old Fretless Wonder.

Wow, that’s a super cool guitar. Nice job, I would be very proud to sling that axe!
Me too, and I'm a drummer. That's just 70's cool and I could see Jimi playing that one. It will be a super cool display. Nice work @67 Mopar !
Just a quick update…the cast list is out, just call me Santa!! :)
Congrats! Are you practicing your Ho Ho Ho?

Took time off from the 'regular' projects to install a french drain around my expensive, complicated, aerobic treatment unit septic tanks. We have high ground water and I've been getting a high level alarm from water infiltration. Dug a sump and installed a pump to move water into a downspout drain line that empties into a concrete drywell that gravity flows into my pond which gravity flows into China Ditch, a county maintained system of drainage ditches in the area.

The sump

Trench to a riser with power in it for the pump

Line with geotech fabric and add drain rock. Place 4" perf pipe and fill to one foot below grade.

All covered up, ready for soil.

Beat the rain by a few hours. Now I can reinstall the air pump and get the system in proper working order. The county has been on my *** for a couple years now. Not that I'm losing sleep over it.

Just got back from our trip to Germany with our youngest son as our tour guide. He was there for a month doing training for work. He stayed an extra 12 days to drive us around the country side. Had a lot of fun, great food, and plenty of beer. That little girl can drink!!!!! The Autobahn was a blast, fastest I have ever driven a car, same for the wife (and she liked it)! To be fair, she is a pretty good driver.

Once back, the wife and I unloaded the new lift and rotisserie. That fricken lift weighed a ton (actually just shy of 1800 pounds). A little more than the little P/U box could handle so we had to trailer it to the house. PITA, but it is in the barn now waiting on other projects before being installed.

Glad to read that you liked Germany.
It's a nice country.
Back in 74-76, i was stationed there while in the Air Force, at a base, long ago closed down, years ago.

Well, the cooler weather is co operating with me in regards to taking my bicycle out to work my way up to do a 20 mile round trip on the American River Parkway Trail, that we have here in the Sacramento, CA. area.
It takes me 3 miles, to get onto the trail thru my city streets, then i also do those 3 miles back home, when i get off the trail.
Only did 12 miles, round trip today, and want to do a full 10 miles , that will take me down to Nimbus Dam, here in my area.
Then i gotta do the 10 miles back, on the trail.
Keeping the weight off for a full year now, when i lost 50 pounds off this old mans body from 230 pounds, down to 180.
Been staying in the 177-179 pound range, these days.

"...other than work on my car" eh?
Ok. Today, a simple event that started with answering a FB Marketplace ad eventually led to
my getting humbled.
Seriously humbled...

It's still sitting a bit raw with me right now, but it's going to be something I'll need to write about
as soon as I can ease up on myself about it a little.

I didn’t realize you were so close to me, Don. I’m over in Pinckney. Have you ever been to German Park in Ann Arbor for one of their festivals? I would imagine that their Octoberfest is about to happen any day now.

Funny, we were going to go to the Saloon last night for dinner, which we do every couple weeks. They have a great fish dinner, and my daughter loves the margarita pizza. But she hasn’t been feeling well so we skipped going. Imagine being in the same place with another member and not even knowing it. I would love to meet up and talk a bit with you, maybe next time. I have another friend who goes to the Saloon all the time because he lives in Hell, he drives an orange 70 Superbee, since it was nice out I though maybe he was there? He always parks right up front.

I've talked to Doug a few times, good guy, met Brian last night, guy with the 73 white cutlass convertible. I've driven my AAR up there this past summer before it died. Was in my Hellcat last night.

Been in and out of that place since the eighties, was the Damn site inn for along time.

Me too. I grew up in Pinckney, and remember when the dam broke and flooded the whole place. Good times!

Got down to the Merced, CA. Pick-N-Pull wrecking yard, to get lower control arms off a 69 Valiant, for my rebuilding, then put up for sale over on the "A" bodies site.

I did see that one as well. Was thinking of making the trip but not enough time.

Closed down the garden for the year. Dug up the potatoes for harvest. Pulled all the tomatoes and bean plants. I'll till it up once tomorrow and cover it until spring.
We did have good year though. We have enough wax beans, tomatoes, green peppers and broccoli to get us through till spring. Not the potatoes though I eat to many of them.
I hate winter
I hate snow

Back to my pergola project.

The first scoops.

Gravel base for the retaining wall. When the water comes back up this fall, it will be at this level.
20240607_131158.jpg

Graded flat and building the wall.
20240613_134325.jpg

That corkscrew maple is sending roots uphill into my patio area. I had one in the front yard that totally infiltrated the septic tanks which had to be replaced.

So:
20240614_120557.jpg

Wall completed, footing forms built, trenched for power.
20240705_161127.jpg

Rental trailer, some concrete and a little help from my brother-in-law and the footings are in.
20240715_093819.jpg

Forms off and ready to trench again for low voltage lighting. Everything under the patio goes in conduit.
20240725_130719.jpg

Road fabric down.
20240804_163211.jpg

Then add rock. Sprinkle with a little water before compacting.
