hi Everyone in Moparland,

This crazy situation in the east of Europe has got a lot of UK-Mopar folks worried.
Some of have been Mopar owners for 40 plus years and its getting grim for parts!

I have noticed that some folks are unwilling to send stuff to us limeys?

I can understand you wanting to keep stuff for your own cars.
But not selling us 'Chinese parts' is a bit strange indeed.

More and more folks are finding the manufacturers around the World and buying direct.

Now I see an Australian company making anything and everything for Mopars.

I hope this doesn't come across as a gripe just a concerned Mopar owner...

I'm a 50+ year MOPAR nut and have never heard of not selling parts because of concerns listed.

Most people take the "path of least resistance" and sell locally to minimize issues(shipping, refunds etc) when selling internationally

Could you be imagining or creating a non-existent issue?

Folks all over are having difficulties finding original parts, as they are obviously not available even in the good 'ol USA.

MOPAR buyers have always had problems find new/used/OEM/repop's etc

Many eBay sellers(auto and non-auto related) limit their sales to US only(maybe shy about selling internationally, high international shipping costs, etc).

Hope more folks around the world manufacture and sell parts as we can use them in the US also - more parts the merrier for all( assuming the parts are of good quality).

Business' are getting lazy to be honest. They come up with any excuse not to serve the customer these days. If they don't serve the customer (including spending an extra 5 minutes shipping overseas) they don't deserve to be in business I figure. It's time to stop using excuses and start putting effort in to earn their income.
 
I hear the concern, we have some major vendors that won't even ship to Canada anymore.

Not just major vendors but vendors in general. Personally I think its plain ol' laziness. After all, a "foreign" shipment means you have to get a shipping rate (available on line) and fill out a small customs form. Who the hell wants to take two minutes to do all that ?!?!

And let's not forget Paypal - who tend to side with buyers thus creating a potential risk for vendors. Americans are also paranoid about money orders and even foreign Visa/Mastercards.
 
Being unable to get Mopar parts is hardly a unique issue to anyone. I ordered 7 items from Year One in Dec and received only one immediately. The rest went on backorder and I’m still waiting on a couple. Classic industries is better but I placed an order for some parts with them last week and three went on backorder. The parts shortage strikes me as two situations. Some sellers are cutting back inventories and not backfilling parts that are still available from manufactures. Bad on them. Other parts are unavailable because they aren’t currently in production and the manufacturers are waiting either on a retooling schedule or for enough orders to build up to justify getting their tooling in production. Nothing you can do but wait or search for someone who may still have one in inventory somewhere.

I guess a 3rd reason also is because they are sitting in a container ship parked off the coast awaiting port space.

Welcome to Covid world. It’s only going to get worse with Ukraine.

Yep, I should have added some FBBO members as well... that give the "nope, I only ship in the USA". Their prerogative, but if I'm paying the postage rate why does it matter?!?!
 
Reading all these posts about parts shortages and the extremely long wait times sure makes me glad I was able to get my 68 put together back in 2013-2018. There were no issues getting parts then. Good luck to all of you who are trying to source parts these days.
 
I don't sell a lot of b body parts, but when I was selling a lot of stuff on eBay, international customers were not worth the trouble.
They always complained about the shipping cost, (not the sellers fault), and often wanted me to lie on customs forms and say it was a gift.
When ebay started it's international shipping program, I started using that, but for only a few countries, mostly English speaking.
Fraud was a major concern.

As much as I hate it when people use “I” to begin every sentence, I’m going to have to.
I ship stuff all over the world. It takes literally two minutes or less to fill out the online customs form. Guess what, you’re not busier then me. No, you’re not. I have two minutes, you do too.
Postage is expensive. But anyone who has shipped anything in the last little while knows roughly how much it will cost. When the customer asks to buy, give them an honest, reasonable guess as to postage. They take it or leave it. If you’re out by a few bucks, who cares? If you can’t afford to occasionally eat two, three, or five bucks perhaps you need to rethink the life choices that have brought you to this situation. Now here’s that word “I”.
I occasionally give stuff away for free. Postage included. Guess what? It’s ******* awesome! I’m no richer then you, but just like any of you I’m blessed. I feel much better giving stuff away free then I would feel clawing every last dime out of it.
But that’s just me, your results may vary. Haters gotta hate.

There are some legitimate worker shortages not just in automotive fields. But everywhere. And of course conflict in US biggest trading continent is not helping any cause.

I guess the only recommendation is to work and stay committed to your goals and beliefs? There are some encouraging improvements. On pandemic, labor and even in areas of conflict fronts.

So what's the big deal with that, it wouldn't be your worst sin!! It can save the buyer a significant amount of money and is potentially a deal-breaker. I don't think you realize just how much duty some countries charge despite the items being rusty used crap.

Well this all depends, did you give them an actual quote or just pull a number out of your head? Ebay is a good example of totally unrealistic and bogus foreign shipping rates and the "Global Shipping" is just a scam!!

Here’s a perfect example of what “foreigners” face buying stuff from uncaring sellers. Look at the postage quote. I can promise you that those transistors can be mailed for less then twenty dollars, closer to ten dollars in a bubble envelope.

From a business owners perspective doing overseas transactions is very risky. Between the shipping problems and credit card chargebacks we insist that new customers pay in cash while they are vetted. After losing 10K you would understand.

Those of you that are implying that this is driven by lack of work ethic on the part of the vendor are uninformed. Ask a business owner like Wayne Brewer or Jim Fillmore at DMT how many times they have been ripped off by credit card chargebacks and you will understand. It is not any more difficult to ship to Canada or wherever when you are making a label online and dropping stuff off at a drop point or having it picked up at your business so that logic is nonexistent and a poorly thought-out assumption.

So you're in Oregon and I'm 1500 miles and across a border in Canada. "Cash is King" as far as I'm concerned but please tell me how we do that !!
 
I've mailed parts to Canada, the UK, Germany, and Australia without issue. Used USPS for all but the shipment to Australia, and that buyer had a preference other than USPS that worked well for him. I've bought parts from one Canadian in particular, where he lives close to the border, and he shipped from a US post office, or Fastenal. Only once have I been jerked around on parts, and the guy provided a refund after a couple of months of back and forth....a US seller, BTW.

Between you and me that is easy. After bantering back and forth on the internet for 20 years I feel I can trust you LOL. Not everyone falls into that category and I believe you would agree on that point. For a business a loss like that would be a tax write-off however for the average Joe selling Parts out of his garage there is not a well-versed person in the office to handle situations like this and it becomes a big hassle.

I am not saying I don't have empathy for those that are having hard time getting parts just simply supplying a perspective from the other side of the service counter.
