Where do we stand with Moparts?

Last month I sold something to a man in Canada. He filed a Not As Described case on eBay and in the end he got to keep the item, got 100% of his money with shipping back, and never did have to describe how it was not as described. eBay has no way to generate a return label from Canada, the USPS system wouldn't generate a label by me for a Canada to US shipment, and the buyer wouldn't take it to the post office if I paid. I still don't know how it was NAD. Couldn't take him to small claims, even if I wanted to.
I still sell to Canadians, but I understand people who won't.

Tell us who this was. We're a pretty small (relatively speaking) Mopar community up here and it would be nice to know who the culprit was.

They said anything except USPS because their stuff sits in customs for months and sometimes never shows up. She said FedEx or UPS were fine and reasonably quick and they deliver to their door and USPS didn’t.

Well of course USPS don't deliver to their door, what do the first two letters stand for ... and where are WE ???

Anyhow, both UPS and FedEx charge a brokerage fee for EVERYTHING crossing any border. To Canada that fee is a minimum $35 - on top of the shipping cost - that the sender pays. So hell, if you're gonna send me something at your expense - by all means use FedEx or UPS. USPS on the other hand do NOT charge brokerage fees and the shipping cost is usually less than FedEx or UPS to begin with. And they have tracking. But yes, stuff can get hung up in customs - but probably not as often as one might think. It has only ever happened to me once.

Fair enough, you make good points.
But numerically have international transactions resulted in more disputes then national? I’m not a business, only a hobbiest that sells on the side. I’ve done well over 1,000 international transactions, probably getting closer to 2,000 now. Only been burned twice.

It's not the frequency but amplitude of the losses amigo. We are not logistically able to support doing business without some recourse in the case of a loss.

That said, if anyone out of the US wants to buy my Indy -1 heads and intake with NOS fogger kit hit me up and we will make a deal.

In cash lol

I have ordered things from the USA, and have had good delivery by US postal service and Canada post. I have had 2 situations where I didn’t get the goods. This was in the late 90’s. One was a well known parts supplier who we had stopped in to his business in1990. I received one box, waited for the second, no show. Called him, he said check with your Postal Service. Then I checked with Canada Post, there was absolutely no record of either box. 500.00 US down the drain. It was NOT any Business on different sites today. The other was a private person, that was going to supply a service, which I should have known better.
DMT
Jim told me that there were problems getting things through to Canadian customers. So National Moparts would be selling his product. I found their prices were quite satisfactory. Are their other DMT suppliers in Canada, I don’t know.
Not being a business, and retired I have the time to go to he post office, fill out the forms and mail things to other countries.
I like to think of Sahara’s comment. Basically for some it is a hobby and nice to help others. Not exact but the intention I gather. I have sent things to Europe Australia USA, so far no complaints that I know of. Must be lucky.

I sold a 1/2 set of gen I hemi rockers to a guy in New Zealand a couple years ago. Over $100 "ground" shipping! Took four months to get there. He never complained once!
We're used to paying through the nose for shipping down here....$100 sounds cheap to me. And four months is about normal for non-air freight.

Thank you for doing business with a foreigner.

YOU can, but Customs here can be a bunch of pricks.
Our Customs Agents periodically look around eBay for pricing if they get suspicious about an item's worth when inspecting. I have never asked anyone to falsify the true value to a ridiculous amount. It has to be bona fide pricing.

Another thing I will not do is haggle the asking price with a seller. It is what it is....and if I don't like the price....I don't get involved. If the item is what I want, I'll pay what the guy is asking. I learnt that lesson a long time ago.

Something else that many do not consider.....because the shipping process can take up to 3 months from USA to down these parts....a Warranty can expire, and a PayPal transaction can expire as far as refunds go. I found that out when I purchased a Holley electric fuel pump a few years ago for my truck. The Holley pump was junk, but by the time it arrived, Summit Racing informed me that their 90-day Refund Policy had expired. So I was stuck with a $300+ piece of junk.

I am very wary of buying retail from Summit Racing now.

I know this post has not much at all to do with MoParts, but I'm sharing my video to warn others.

Summit Racing left a sour taste in my mouth.

Apparently you need everything spelled out to you in minute detail. I think everyone knows there is a transfer to the CPC who does the actual delivery in Canada. Thanks for pointing out the blatantly obvious.

I try to have small packages shipped USPS whenever I can to avoid brokerage charges. I live out in the country with a Rural Route address, and Canada Post has always delivered to my mail box.

I ship anywhere. Just sent some 70 Gtx,64 Dodge and 67 R/T parts to Canada and a 68 R/T decklid molding to Germany. I appreciate all car guys. Moparts is nothing like it once was I barely visit there anymore...

hi Everyone in Moparland,

This crazy situation in the east of Europe has got a lot of UK-Mopar folks worried.
Some of have been Mopar owners for 40 plus years and its getting grim for parts!

I have noticed that some folks are unwilling to send stuff to us limeys?

I can understand you wanting to keep stuff for your own cars.
But not selling us 'Chinese parts' is a bit strange indeed.

More and more folks are finding the manufacturers around the World and buying direct.

Now I see an Australian company making anything and everything for Mopars.

I hope this doesn't come across as a gripe just a concerned Mopar owner...
Do you have a link to this company? I can't imagine it being profitable making the parts they are probably more of a parts depot buying bulk..

...or a drop shipper who never touch the parts themselves, but rather are restricted by wherever their
vendors are willing to direct-ship.

Shipping out of the states has become increasingly hard...and expensive. There are many countries that require business to collect the VAT tax now, and it is such a hassle that we have started using a broker. It's just not worth the hassle for the few sales. We get asked all the time to falsify shipping documents...not happening. We have also cut way back on USPS out of the country.....who knows when you will get it...customers get mad and demand $$ back...and I'm out the part and shipping...even when you are up front with them and can't give them a good ETA.

We have continued to ship all over the world from Canada to Germany to Australia and even Japan. We sell through our website and ebay store. But I have seen some kick back in recent months on the cost of shipping as its has been on the rise. I know from personal stand point many of our Canadian customs prefer shipping USPS as the duty and taxes are higher from Fedex and UPS.
