Who has MOVED from their home state ? How difficult was it for you?

Life is what we make of it..... but it an be pretty darn hard in some places!!!!!!

We have all heard it said "Ya can't fix stupid"> But then the guy asked the "pilgrim" that just moved in" did ya momma drop you on ya head when a baby, is it genetic, or are just ya from the ______ Coast" Fill in th blank as ya wish! LOL

Where you live..makes a big difference, unless you can just work from home! Best solution is just be retired!

My neighbors place just sold to a couple from California. It is a 25 year old brick ranch style 2400 sq ft. On 10 acres for $210,000. Seems to be happening more and more around here. It's got to be the low taxes and conservative lifestyle.
I think the price of the place had a lot to do with it too. Moving from California, they probably banked a boatload of money. Hope you’re doing well sir, take care!

I am currently in Alpharetta Georgia with the wife. She had business here. We were in downtown Atlanta last night.
Lots of differences between here and Northern CA.
Green everywhere. LOTS of trees. Road construction projects are common. The roads here seem worse than back home.
The following is NOT racist, just an observation.....
Hardly any Hispanic or Asian people. Lots of black people. Again, I mean nothing offensive with that, it is just different from back home. I saw no homeless camps, no bums walking the streets either. People are friendly.
It is humid. I noticed by looking at the listings on the phone that humidity seems to peak in the morning. Currently at 10:30 AM it is around 80 degrees with 85% humidity and it feels fine. Everyone in my family sweats so I am used to that. This trip won’t highlight the worst of the summer weather but it should give some indication.
Tomorrow night we are traveling north. Saturday or Sunday we are going to Cooters Garage in Tennessee for some show. Tom Wopat-Luke Duke will be there.

FWIW I've been traveling to Georgia once or twice a year since 2008, I've been at all times of the year, it can be humid but I've experienced allot worse... I like an awful lot about the area, the people are generally friendly, it seems like they still take pride in being Americans, as an example go visit anything Military in the area & see how well cared for it is as opposed to here in California... Most homes & properties seem well cared for... There are bad areas but unlike California it's confined to "areas" here by law theres section eight housing mixed into every new housing development... The hope being it will "improve" the living conditions of the economically "challenged".. The reality is it spreads allot of problems to areas that could do without.... I guess it does level the playing field... By lowering standards across the board.... Sounds like a familiar theme..

Lots of black people.

It sure is pretty here. Clouds and rain in the summer is so foreign to me though.
I am used to dry and hot from May to September.
Using air conditioning and windshield wipers at the same time....whuuut??

rain is pretty much a weekly event on the east coast, all year long

i dont know if its been brought up but states have different tax rates they take out of your retirement, I'm retiring shortly and I'm moving to a more rural area but staying in this state because they have no state taxes

Tennessee has NO state income tax. Their sales tax is higher than CA though.
The lack of income tax adds up to almost $1000 a month!

that's a plus , I have a daughter living by nashville , the housing is cheaper and the cost of living isn't too bad either , she doesn't mind it there , she grew up out here , with you not having to find a job it looks pretty good for you, good luck to you if you do , hope you do well where ever you end up

Unless someone is making a boatload of money, how would you save up a boatload with the high prices in the 'big' cities?

And one more thing about humidity
You can get some nasty thunderstorms
Maybe I'm living too close to the coast because most of the T-storms happen further inland....and not all that much further either.

Wait until you are running your AC, windshield wipers AND the sun is shining!! It's rained hard just across the street but not on my side. Got some mist from it though but the sun was also shining.....and that ain't the first time lol. One thing I can say about living near the coast is the skies are really cool looking most of the time.

I hope Tennessee is better than Ohio right now, I'm sweating my *** off! Bizzare Spring here so far, we went from cold and wet to blazing hot for a few weeks then back to cold and wet and now blazing hot and humid again. Typically you get some beautiful weather in the Spring and Fall but this year has been one extreme to the other.

My brother and sister are both right there In Alpharetta/Marietta. Both have done quite well;
she lives in a golf course community, my architect brother in a fancy Frank Lloyd Wright house.
Atlanta (where we all grew up in the 60s/70s) is a mess traffic-wise and politically; it matters a TON
what part of town you're in there, as well as in which SUBURB you're in.
Parts of that town are literally a war zone....sad really.
The northern suburbs like Alpharetta are much much better, for obvious reasons...

Ah, I see y'all are going to Nashville then. Similar situation to Atlanta, just a bit smaller in scope and
much friendlier - but still with most big town issues that they all have these days.
The affluent folks live outside the city (the music industry types and what have you). Lots of celebrities!
You leave a lot of problems behind when you leave the city limits there, too - but again, that's like
a lot of places in this country anymore.

Maybe next time y'all could wander over here to the poor white trash part of the state (NE). :)
Safe trip and have a blast, my friend!
