Who has MOVED from their home state ? How difficult was it for you?

Hey KD, have you considered renting out your place in California and renting a place to live in a different state? That way you can try it out, before you fully commit to a permanent move.

SELL!! You DONT want to a landlord these days!!! Not worth the aggrevation, bs and NO RENT PAYMENTS coming in & having you still paying mortgage, TAXES, insurance AND repairs as tennents "DEMAND" you fix this or that. Same for NY, CT & JEERZE!!!

I wish I had faith in the common man but squatters can really screw things up for a land owner.

Wife has done country r/e her in SE Tx for ten years. I am her driver and "protector". Yes I am armed.
It is always so nice when we have a buyer or seller that is a normal human being. Funny what $$$ does to some people!
Will the last guy to leave the Left Coast...please turn out the lights!!??:lol::confederateflag::poke:

I really would prefer this thread to remain active.
Thank you.
You've talked this subject to death already. My family moved across the world and down one continent in the time you've had this thread going. LOL :poke:

I have a plan for the move, when it happens.
I'll either buy or rent shipping containers and load them up myself. I'll rent a dumpster and toss almost all the furniture in it and buy all new stuff at the new place. I'll keep clothes, keepsakes, DVDs, tapes, magazines and such.
The cars will require a multi-car hauler. It will cost money but so what? I see the "move" as a necessary cost of it all.
Taking risks often results in some great new experiences.

Have you looked into the costs of those, as they seem to change weekly??? Also if you haven't noticed, we are starting to get into a recession, and it's only going to get lots worse before it gets better. Yes, it's a necessary evil cost to move, that's a given, but at how much cost? I don't have any furniture, just some antiques from home and my kitchen stuff, and 5000+ records to haul.
Do some price shopping on some of that and see what kind of sticker shock you get, you're in for a rude awakening!!!!

YES, "natives" in the South DO know, almost instinctually, that "you ain't from around here" and some will
even use that exact phrasing when chatting with you.

Biggest mistake some make when moving down here is thinking they're gonna improve the place....
Doesn't matter if you could. Just don't.
Assimilate, dang yankee....

No, I just tell them that I'm from my Mother's womb and screw everything else!! Hey, I was readin a article yesterday that said TN. Is the Worst Energy Efficient State in the Nation. Are y'all really proud of that fact or are y'all willing to change that fact for the better or continue to keep trashin the environment???? Askin for a friend!

continue to keep trashin the environment????
That's funny, because TN has some of the most beautiful scenery and roads I've been on and around in a long time. The Smokies are gorgeous (and the name LONG pre-dates the industrial revolution)!

I summarily dismiss the premise of the entirety of your question, since at this point all it is based on is
some unidentified, unreferenced "article" you were "readin".
"Worst Energy Efficient State"? WTF does that even mean?
That sounds not only like one of those subjective, baseless, highly biased "charges" that the left spits out like
propaganda - but it also sounds like something not based on anything concrete and tangible in the way of facts.

Oh and to answer the question anyways - if you don't like the way we do things down here, stay the hell out.
Easy peasy.

True. For the science behind the centuries-old name "Smokies" (and what the native Cherokee called "Shaconge"
with reverence):
https://smokymountainnationalpark.com/blog/why-are-the-smoky-mountains-smokey/
The Appalachians (if you hear someone pronounce it with a long "A" in the middle of the word, they ain't
from around here) and specifically the Smokies are where some of us call home and it truly is God's
country.

So far both of our neighbors like us. As do the cats in the Publix parking lot.
I think the one on the right we will nickname Mario.
I'm just ribbin' ya. I have no doubt you folks are gonna love it - and "it" will love you, too.
I knew that Mate. We are definitely more apt to fit in down here. We go through Knoxville and Chattanooga on rt. 81. Did we pass near you and Fred?

When someone moving into a different area or state, the best plan is to watch what they say, what they do, how they do it, and understand why, and think before you speak or act. Anyone can fit in if they really try, but IF you were not raised there or your previous 5 generations, know that you might never really be
"one" of them.

....and if you move down south, and keep hearing "bless your heart"...they don't like you.
Or, more accurately, they think you should be wearing a helmet just to walk down the street.

Knoxville is a couple hours west of us over here; Chattanooga considerably further, of course.
Not sure about this 81 you speak of, though??
If we're talking interstates, then I-75 is the main drag from Chatt. to Knox.
I-40 is the main east-west; intersects with I-75 (the main N-S) of course.
Once 75 north intersects with 40, you hang a right (east) and head into Knoxville...

I used to run around the Knoxville area quite often, but honestly I haven't been in that neck of the woods in
a few years now (age, health, job change).

I think you are right. The first leg of the journey is 81 South, then we get on 40 West, and then 75 toward Chattanooga.

I hate regrets. I hate being unprepared too.
The idea came about before I was ready in terms of work. I want to be retired and collecting my pension before the move. I don’t think there is any union work in Texas or Tennessee. Once I am retired, I may get some part time job to supplement my earnings.
The process to start collecting the pension is slow and frustrating. I did not know that it would take this long or I would have started the application process before I left my last job.

I've heard about that phrase all my life (both sides of my family are originally from TN, keep in mind).
To date, I've never heard anyone here in my 27+ years ever say it, though.
