Who has MOVED from their home state ? How difficult was it for you?

I have no understanding of California or how it works, but, I will say that everyone that I have ever met from their was so glad to get out, as if they were set free. That's sad, I would think if they changed the way the state is run, it would be like living in paradise.
I don't want to turn this into a Calif bashing thread or a political thread but I did want to touch on your thoughts. When I was discharged from the Navy I chose to stay in Calif rather than go home. I really wasn't thrilled with SoCal so I moved up north near SF, far enough away from SF that I could avoid the stupidity of SF but close enough I could work in SF since that is where a chunk of the construction was. It is such a beautiful state and it had so much to offer, great weather, beautiful beaches, world class ocean and lake fishing, good hunting, snow skiing, I happen to like the outdoors so going camping in the Sierra's was a taste of Heaven on earth but over the past 30 years I have seen a steady decline in the state to the point where I no longer recognize it. The homeless are everywhere and no one cares, underpasses are full of trash and tents, side roads have broken down RV's parked with people living in them. I won't even get into the evil that the politicians are pushing out of Sacramento on a daily basis but I will say if I had kids I would get them out of this state asap, as much as I miss my Grand Kids I was relieved when they escaped the state.
Calif was given so much and squandered all of it.

What you’re stating there isnt news to anyone that has their eyes open.
Fact.

I haven't posted here in a while, but it's because I have been busy getting OUT of CA... I was born (1980) and raised in SoCal and lived there my entire life except 5 years in MT from 99-05. I cam back down for work, but always dreamed of getting back to the life I sampled outside CA. After a year and a half of distance learning, having my home broken into and all of our dirt bikes and quad stolen with no repercussions for the juvenile offenders, mask-holes everywhere, and general insanity at every turn, we made a plan back in February, and executed this summer. I am now, as of 7 weeks ago, fully out. There is almost NOTHING that I miss, or that isn't better. I live about 40 minutes west of SLC in the Tooele Valley. Kids are thriving, life is better. We're still not fully settled, as we have a lot of work to do in the house, but I would not trade it for anything.

As far as pitching all furniture in the dumpster that is what many are doing when fleeing Commiefornia, simple math tells you it is cheaper to buy new rather than move it

Exactly what I'm doing. Selling it on offer up/CL/Marketplace or into a dumpster. Beds, sofas, recliners all left behind. Rather not move it.

Making the move show be darn easy IF retired. If not life gets a lot more complicated.
Life is usually about only 3 things. Having someone to love and that loves you back, work that is fulfilling, and being able to dream.

Words of wisdom for sure-

My son pulled it off with one baby 2 months old and one 2yrs. He set a goal and did what he had to do-as in selling his house and moving into a month to month rent apartment to improve his availability, downsized and applied for every position open in his occupation in the Boise area. Had to fly up a couple of times for interviews but it finally paid off. Once he scored a job he was gone asap. Like you said it was not easy but his sacrafice paid off.

I remember you. I don't recall your name but we have spoken a few times there in L.A. during the Spring Fling shows.
Glad to see the move has worked out for you.
It sucks to see that you had such a shitty time before leaving. I have not met with such trouble so far.
For the Wife and I, it is as if we are barely on the outskirts of the insanity. We see the homeless camps, we hear about the crime but it hasn't reached us yet. There are other negatives here that we do deal with....High food and gas prices, big house payment, high taxes and the traffic. That all sucks but isn't enough to push us over the edge. I obviously want to jump ship before we encounter anything bad or before the real estate market crashes.

I moved from Ga to Mo in '79 I was 31, wife a 2 kids, 5 and 6. Sold my little place, equip. moved with probably 6--10 quarter horses. I had bought 40 ac, pasture and an old small farm house the year before. Left Ga with no job. But we made it work and never regretted the move.
I probably did not realize it, but God saw us thru because we worked hard and had a dream. Didn't ask to be taken care of, just give us the strength to work for our dreams.

You're right except, I retired at 52, nothing is as easy if you retire and you're 65 . Starting over at 65 is not for everyone. At 65, I'll say, having someone to love and that loves you, being able to dream and instead of a fulfilling job, I'd say a pocket full of money for the help you're going to need.

By then it will be way to late to leave and you won't have the money to leave either! How much are you willing to throw on the plastic to move??? GET OUT NOW while you still can. **** everything else!

I think about living in California, Nevada, or Arizona about every 6 or 7 minutes. But you’re right. Home is home and my dear mommy lives here too so I’m tethered down.
I also used to think that Canada is so much better but I’ve gotten over that idea. This country is going to ****. USA looks better all the time…. Plus I could drive my charger year round down in the desert!

There are people that "do" and then there are those that just "talk."
Last house I built for us, was granted just 1500 sq ft. but I worked 40 hrs a week, and built it myself working on it nights and weekend, did it all myself except the the framing. I was 65.

did you find work or are you retired? I have 2 other friends who moved to Utah and are enjoying life, but they are semi retired.

People from the northeast have been moving to Florida for decades and it steadily gets more difficult for me.

I worked 7-12's and flipped homes till I was 52. At 65 now, I don't have to do anything, hell I didn't need to do anything at 52. I didn't know we were going to a dick measuring contest, any time you're ready.

My job was a 7 day a week, 8 hours a day program. You got one to two days off every 19 days, as the contract read, if it didn't adversely affect the efficiency of the operation, if so, it was everyday. Started at 5:48 to 2:18, unless we worked 9, 10, or 12 hours. Worked on houses till Midnight, slept and got up at 4:20. I would do that for weeks at a time. I did that for 24 years till they moved.

Talk and Bullshit are not in my vocabulary. Hard work is all I have ever known and I paid the price. The reason I said at 65 money is needed is because I'm a little broken down in the knees, tennis elbow and golf elbow, never played either sport, didn't have time.
